I've got a feeling there will be a summer Tool tour after the Puscifer one and with that tour, I'm thinking we'll see Tool at Lollapalooza.

I'd imagine they would finish up the album before touring again, so a tour later this year isn't out of the question.

They were at Lolla in '09. Would rather see them in a proper venue around Chicago/Milwaukee/Madison than a festival but I'd take either one at this point.

Wow....wait 6 years to unveil a music video. No thanks. And by tweaks to the setlist, they mean replacing Stinkfist with flood or right in two. I'm sorry but after them milking the SHIT out of that 10,000 Days tour, I'm pretty much burnt out on these guys. What broke the camels back was them performing at All Points West back in 2009. Same....fucking....setlist....over and over and over. These guys are REALLY turning into a nostalgia band.

I think you are confused. How can they be a nostalgia band when they play NOTHING from their first two releases, and only a couple songs from their next two? If they played nothing from 10,000 Days then ok, you'd have an argument. It's not their fault you don't like that record, but in actuality what you want them to be is a nostalgia band. I wouldn't mind some nice setlist suprises this time around as would anyone, but come on; how annoyingly repetitive can a setlist you see once or twice every 2 years be? They don't even play Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days anymore...

I guess nostalgia band wasn't the proper term for what I meant. I was a HUGE Tool fan up until recently. I saw them quite a few times during their 10,000 Days tour (probably 7 or 8 times) and I must say with the exception of Flood getting tossed into the mix on the later dates, these guys didn't mix ANYTHING up. And every time I saw them, it was the same 9 or 10 songs jumbled around. I understand that they have the whole laser, smoke machine, fog thing set up but goddamn...mix it up. You're right, they hardly play anything from Opiate or Undertow, thats another problem. I don't know, I never EVER got tired of seeing NIN perform or countless other bands i've seen multiple times. These guys just got redundant. I remember Adam saying that "You're in for a few surprises this next leg of the tour". And what that? One or two changes in the 11 song setlist (that still syncs with the videos they've been playing pretty much since Lateralus)? When I saw them at All Points West in 2009...three years after they released 10,000 days, and two years after their last 10,000 Days tour, I figured they'd HAVE to alter their show a little bit.......nope. Not one goddamn thing. I'm convinced these guys aren't even trying anymore. And so help me god, if they play the same shit this tour, i'm throwing in the towel and getting my jollies off with Puscifer.

12/22/11 11:26 AM

For $85 they better do something different. Don't know about you guys but i'm not used to paying that much to see a show (I can usually see 4 or 5 bands I love at better venues for the price of a Tool ticket) so I will be severely dissappointed if the setlist is similiar to when I saw them 3 years ago in 2009, which was very similiar to the setlist when I saw them 3 years prior to that in 2006. Time to change it up for sure

12/23/11 12:02 AM

Well in fairness the last tour they did bust out Third Eye, Intolerance, The Grudge, and The Patient. Granted I never got to see that tour as it was mostly West Coast and then Australia, but I am sure we'll see at least a couple of those tracks this time around plus possibly one or two others. I keep hearing Pushit will make a re-appearance? There's also a guessing game going on over at fourtheye now where apparently it's been released that one of the tracks that will be played, that hasn't been played in sometime, has the letter A in it. So feel free to narrow down the possiblities if you'd like. (Swamp Song? Crawl Away?)But who knows that could just be bullshit.

Either way the staples won't change. 46 & 2. Jambi. Aenema. Lateralus. Stinkfist. Schism. Pretty sure all of those will be there. The songs are so long they can only play 11-12 of them in a 2 hour show, so when you minus those out there's not much room left. And that's good by me because I love all of those staples. I'd rather them play the songs I know they're going to rip rather than songs that don't sound great live. For that matter, If I went to a Tool show and DIDN'T hear Lateralus, I would lose my fucking shit. I don't know, I could see the exact same setlist from 2009 and I'd be good to go because I love the songs and it's been too long since I've heard them anyway, but throw in The Grudge and Third Eye and I am over the top happy. It's weird. With NIN I could do to never hear Closer or The Hand That Feeds Again (as starved as I am for NIN live again), but the thought of never hearing Lateralus or Aenema again sends shivers down my spine, and not in a good way. To each his own.

12/23/11 8:09 AM

^^^ The Grudge wasn't part of the 2010/11 set lists.

Just needed to point that out, carry on. tongue sticking out smiley

Gonna complete the Maynard trifecta within 1 year.

AAWWWWWWWYYYEEEAAAHHHH!!

I was wondering to myself .. with Maynard touring so much in all forms .. do you think his vineyard is tanking?? I guess a winery in the desert can be expensive. That's my guess ..

Looks like they had a pretty solid setlist in Reno.

See it here

Heh, I was hell bent on making sure I wouldn't check out set lists or go to YouTube before the Toledo show. Sunday morning I already cracked and checked out the Reno show. :/

01/25/12 7:38 PM

Went to the Toledo show last night. Fucking WOW! Without getting into spoilers or anything, Tool truly is one of the great live bands of all time. This one probably tops all the ones I've seen before.

People can bitch about the set list until they're blue in the face, but the experience of being there is only comparable to NIN (IMHO).

Wish I would've made arrangements for one more date this tour. Really hope they take their time to get out the next album and then hit the road again.

01/26/12 12:28 AM

have to get tickets when I can, hopefully I can leave the state soon.

Just one semi-spoler question. Was the light show the same or different from the last tour?? Jus wonderin' ..

1 week, 2 days!!

I'm ok with the set list ..

It's slightly different from the last tour- in a good way. The back drop where it used to be all projection and lighting now has one of those stealth screens that were used similarly for the LItS tour. They don't have 3 of them like NIN did to create the 3D effect.

I LOVED Forty Six & 2 with the new set up. Let me know how you feel about it after your show.

This will be my first time seeing Tool live. So I'm super excited. My friends (who have been to many Tool shows) went to the Camden NJ show on Sunday and said it was off da hook! One of their best shows ever.smiling smiley Soooooooooo hopefully tonight I get a similar taste.

Opening band .. Is YOB worth checking out Live?? .. or should I continue drinking beer in the parking lot??

Their tunes sound alright on the NiNPod .. decent. Live could be different.

I had a great time K! wish you were there..sad smiley

Setlist - I think this was the order.
Hooker with a Penis
Jambi
Stinkfist
Sober (with some dude on a mixer-?? not sure) I didn't care for it. Good time for a bathrm break)
Pushitsmiling smiley
Schism
Intension
Forty six & 2smiling smiley
Lateralus (with guest drummer)
Aenemasmiling smiley

* My highlight - watching Danny on drums...Wow.thumbs up His drumset looks BADASS!! I heard it is all brass? Which is rare?..I know nothing about drums, but it sounded fucking great.
MAynard sounded awesome! I know it's his trademark to hang in the shadows but, come on.. really? I felt the front of the stage was so empty.

I know their known for short sets..but, this was over in a blink of an eye.
We spent more time driving in and out of that shithole arena than enjoying the actual show.sad smiley I would have been happier with less visuals and 2-3 more songs.
Overall, I am glad to have seen TOOL live. A must!grinning smiley

That was Maynard on what seemed to be some kind of slide guitar.

Give the show a B. Band didn't really have it together at the start of the show. All the members were playing at different tempos it seems. They got better though out the night but didn't really pull anything new. A few little jams here and there during Intension which was kind of neat.

Edit: Wait, I just thought of this... I swear I saw Maynard hug him or whatever and said thankyou Will? This (part 2): [www.youtube.com] Unless you are talking about a different part of show? Yeah, I agree.. a B sounds good. Mayb a B+ since it was my first time seeing them live.

As some of us suspected, the band is currently working on new material for the next album on this tour.

As per their most recent news letter:

posted:
As I have been saying, during any downtime on the winter tour, all four band members will be busy working on writing and arranging material for the next record.

posted:
When the small winter tour was first announced, some were bummed out about the news, thinking that a new tour was merely another distraction that would keep the band members from working on the new record. When I countered that the tour would be the perfect opportunity for all four band members to work together on new material (which they have been, with very positive results, thank you)

Nice to get some confirmation that they are in fact working on the album during their brief time together this year.

I'm guessing a safe bet for the album would be late this year/early next year.

I would absolutely love it if they surprised us by suddenly releasing it in the Spring once MJK finishes his Puscifer tour and then gear up for a fall/winter world tour to promote the album.

If a tour happens, my guess would be very late in the year due to Maynard's wine harvest. Wouldn't surprise me if they played overseas to start the tour out since it's been a while, outside of Australia/Hawaii a year ago.

But then again they surpised the shit out of me with the current mini-tour so WTF do I know. tongue sticking out smiley

Yeah, that surprised me as well. Wished like hell they were going to make a stop in Chicago, but nope.

Regarding the mini-tour this year, some people have been speculating that the new intro to Schism that the band has been featuring is something off the upcoming album, while others think it's just Adam, Justin, and Danny jamming.

Thoughts?

02/07/12 5:23 PM

My thoughts are just them jamming- but they are obviously working on the next album so who knows (outside of them) at this point.

+1 on the no Chicago/Milwaukee/Madison show. Haven't been around here since '09 and that was for Lolla. I'll take what I can I guess but outdoors in front of 50,000 people or whatever it is ain't the same as an arena or theatre show.

Speaking of Schism on this tour, I was hoping it would be one of the songs replaced. I completely changed my mind after hearing it in Toledo. Maynard sounded better (not the high pitch he's been doing it in the last few years), and they way they sped it up towards the and was a great fucking surprise. Kudos to them for making the live song interesting again.
