I don't know what you're asking.

Is that easily understood?

I enjoyed that...however...I think he fucked up on Lateralus.

First of all...he left out the fact that Saturn is also the god of agriculture (harvest), founder of civilisations and of social order and conformity, which is connected to the moon spoken of in Reflection. It is also the ruling planet of Aquarius. (Here comes the water) We are now in the Age of Aquarius. And I could go on and on...but I won't...

He considered Faaip De Oiad to be a non track to make Parabol and Parabola at the top...rightly so...only Parabola is at the top. And there's more to that...but I've been up for hours...so I won't.

Ticks and Leeches - Too generalized...plus he completely ignored the connection of the colors in this song...and the reference to choking he made earlier for Pushit. And there's a lot more...

And Lateralus is a stand alone track...

Disposition, Reflection and Triad were written as one song...

And Disposition has another meaning to it...but yeah...whatever.

Faaip De Oaid - Why didn't he question why this song is at the end of the album and deals with extra dimensional beings?

Over all, I think that he missed a lot of what tool is about...granted, he may have gotten the tinfoil wrapper down packed...but he completely missed the chocolate contained with in.

Sure! Rosetta Stoned is easy to understand. Drugs are fun, but don't do them too often because they can f**k you up - the main message is that simple. Of course there is more. You can try to figure out the precise meaning of every metaphor, of every little detail, but what's the point? Wouldn't that be taking your focus away from the main message?
"Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind."

09/16/08 7:33 AM

You're missing the point. "Over thinking, over analyzing" is a good thing. Separating the body from the mind is a good thing.

Lateralus is what got me into tool without this album I would never have bothered listening, 10000 days was a good follow on but nothing for me can top lateralus although I am hoping the new one will come close.

If we are getting into the meanings behind songs one other nin fan I was talking to said it best by saying tool is highly esoteric in meaning......

Ive studied a few esoteric traditions and magic and some of the themes Ive picked up on invovle kaballah, judaism, the golden dawn, aleister crowley, tarot, the list is friggin endless guys.........how long is a peice of string?

I thought I don't need to quote that whole segment of the song, because everyone knows it.
Well, the lyrics go like this:

"Over thinkin', over analyzing separates the body from the mind
Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind"
These are good things too? I don't think so...
IMO we are not suppose to over think it, because then we focus on details instead of simply feeling the song. Didn't the band explain that's why they are not adding lyrics to their albums? So people could simply listen to it and absorb it as a whole instead of focusing on some part of it.

i dont know why everyone is getting such an attitude about 10,000 days, i think its their best album, my personal favorite. they took everything they have experimented with in the past and made a new and more stylized and overall more creative sound. i cant say enough about it, adam has never been more interesting, justin has proved that he is one of the best bassists out there and danny is officially untouchable. now i will say maynard's voice is not what is used to be but when he sings i am still moved and he still experiments with what he can do which is a great thing. having said that i still love all their other stuff and i wish they had played more of it on this last tour, but if you want a diverse collection of songs just go see Nails lol this new tour is a must see.

love always, jimnie.

Yeah I agree. 10,000 days is probably my second favorite, of course just behind Lateralus. I won't lie though, when I went out and bought 10,000 days I gave it a listen and I was a little heart broken, but it grew on me like non other. 10,000 days is rich with so many different musical elements. It's one of their best and one of my favorites of all time.

Agreed. Over-thinking is generally a bad thing to do. From a meditative stand-point, it's very self destructive.

The thing that I find funny is that Maynard has stated quite clearly in the past

"I am just a worthless liar...trust in me and fall as well...I will find a center in you...I will chew it up and leave...trust me...trust me..."

So if you take into account what he's saying in other songs, say "Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind...(and so forth)" You really should listen to him and you should think about what he's talking about...because there are hidden messages. Like the one that I just pointed out.

Tool's lyrics are a complex web...and you really shouldn't put much emphasis on Maynard, because I'm pretty sure that Adam has a lot of input into the content of the song. Maynard just makes is personal. But I'm pretty sure, that as a whole, TOOL is Adam's band. He's said so himself.

I will make these few points to show you that there is more...

Faaip De Oiad (Which means the voice of God by the way) - "What we think of as aliens are extra dimensional beings..."

Rosetta Stoned - "DMT...Then the X-File Being...E Mother Fucking T!"

DMT is said to be the chemical gate way to other dimensions. And there are numerous cases of people seeing these same exact alien beings while taking DMT.

My opinion?

DMT is released into your body during REM sleep. Have you ever noticed that external stimuli can effect your dream? Such as the TV (See You Auntie...C U On T...V, Eye on the TV) being or music being played.

Imagine that there are radiowaves being sent through the air that you can only perceive or hear while under the effects of DMT. (You had better listen!) And that because of the effects of this substance, it's creating a dreamlike effect, you come to believe what's taking place. It becomes your reality. Just like when you're having a really weird dream, but it makes since to you while your dreaming until you wake up and realize that it made no sense at all. Same thing here. So we get a bunch of stories and accounts about alien abduction. Because the Illuminati (The Illuminated Ones) are trying to set up a one world government. What better way to accomplish this than to have millions of people believe in things like evolution and galactic psychic abilities and then have space aliens (a grand hallucination designed to fool the entire world) appear and show people the light and path to freedom! They come in and offer ways of a peaceful government through their grand technology! But lo and behold! This is the New World Order! The one world government. And because everyone is living in a "perfect" dream world no one will challenge anything and they will be completely unaware of this. Hence the words of Christ (The Light of the World) keep on the watch and STAY AWAKE that the thief might not break in and steal your outer garment that you might walk naked and people see your shamefulness! Those who oppose will simply be removed and a fabrication will come forth so that those who accept will not suspect anything bad happening.

PS

Maynard is MAJORLY into conspiracy theories.

And on the TOOL website there was a newletter posted around the time of this albums release...I believe after they published the lyrics to it...

Hold up...think about that for a moment...

HE FUCKING PUBLISHED THE LYRICS TO ROSETTA STONED ON THE OFFICIAL TOOL WEBSITE?!?!? WTF?

Anyways...in said news letter there is mention of "the hand writting on the wall" which is a reference to the bible book of Daniel in which Babylon receives a message about it's being destroyed and handed over, which that night it takes place.

And of course...in the book of Revelation Babylon the Great is called the great city that has a kingdom over the kings of the earth...that is the figurative city of the Illuminati and more clearly the Vatican.

The End.

In a round about way I came to know Tool through Maynard's APC and NIN. I've always been a bit more intimidated by Tool than I am NIN for some reason. YET Tool seems like a more, how do I say this...cerebral??? NIN focuses on the emotional/internal in terms of intellect but TOOL is out there metaphysical/scientific intellectual do you understand? I love both bands...and I have read some info about the backgrounds and bios of both bands...not UBER prying but...for example I recently, through a strange series of searches found an interview where Maynard was talking about his love of history, his books etc...which is REALLY cool, cause I'm a dork that way too but... (There is a kid named "teddyZ" who is in the YouTube forum "Song" the moderator posted him, he's playing Vicarious like Danny Cary Jr. it's incredible and I clicked on another link and it lead to the interview)

Anyway I think I like these band because a lot of their work speaks to me / connects, makes me feel not so alone ya know. Do ya all feel that too? And their music speaks to issues I've often thought about but never quite had anyone to discuss them with so...They aren't afraid to sort of touch every part of life and living and don't shy away from the "ugliness" (or what society deems as ugly) to see/show the beauty of it as well. They ask the bigger questions. I don't know how else to put it, but the music maked me feel it's ok to be me, maybe that's weird but...

ANYWHO...how would once suggest delving a little deeper into Tool as well? I've never seen them in concert....I've been to their website. I've browsed but not joined and what exactly is a TOOL ARMY? And that disectional how does that work? thanks!

09/19/08 5:15 PM

I've loved Tool almost as long as NIN.
I've seen them live only twice.
I LOVE Danny's drum solos.
He's one of my favorite drumers ever.
It took me a few listens but I grew to love 10,000 Days.
I think I listen to Aenima and 10K Days the most.
I really want to get into Lateralus again.

Drugs

I've browsed but not joined and what exactly is a TOOL ARMY?

It's the collective unconsciousness of Indigos.

And that disectional how does that work?

Just like your brain. The more open it is, the more things you can get out of it.

I would say that Tool makes me think more, while NIN makes me feel more.

Drugs"

LOL Funny you should mention this. I was playing The Slip's "Lights In The Sky" and toward the later, instrumental part of the song my friend turned to me and said, "Ya know, if I were on drugs right now, this would be one hell of a trip" LOL

SO that is another common ground for NIN I guesss LOL. (Pink Floyd for the modern age)

Very cool. Thank you for the direction...short of drugs, I shall now delve futher grinning smiley
