Richard D. James was the most important electronica act back in the day and now for me personally, he's the only one. It's funny how many other people have ripped his style, but they all seem to be lacking his polish, creativity and most importantly, his song writing ability.
Appropriately enough, I think the best track he's ever done was his creation for NIN, "At The Heart of it All".... one of most interestingly depressing pieces I've ever heard. In general though, his depressing stuff is top notch and when his songs go nuts, not even "The Great Destroyer" can compete.
