I'm all for videos being made cheaply, and I particularly like that more details of the machine open up over time, but for a single gimmick and (essentially) a two-line song, four and a half minutes is way too long. (That and I really can't take her seriously, ever.)

From the land of Absolutely No Gimmicks, I give you... Was (Not Was) - Crazy Water

12/13/10 7:15 PM

Very cool song. I'm fond of the vocals especially, they have this positive, uplifting feel, really refreshing!

One of The Mars Volta's many side projects, this one being a little more "unplugged".

12/13/10 7:33 PM

That was really good. I love foreign music.

On that note. . .
Here's THE Guitar Hero

12/14/10 8:55 AM

Oh man. A bit too hyper for me. I wasn't in the mood for that at all :-)

Some pleasant post-rock to calm things down.

12/14/10 9:33 AM

That was pretty cool. Hadn't heard of them before, but will definately be checking out more of their stuff.

Thomas Truax - Beehive Heart

12/15/10 1:14 AM

That was... interesting. I didn't really like it.

Here's another video game based song.

This one played by Apocalyptica's Perttu Kivilaakso

"The American dream come true. But dreams have a nasty habit of going bad when you're not looking."

12/15/10 4:08 AM

Beautiful! Something to listen to late at night. I enjoyed it.

This is almost better than the original.

12/15/10 5:16 PM

Lots of emotions in the voice, and the strings, but i also think that the song abuses too much strings. What i love with the original is how quiet it sounds, which isn't the case here. But it's good.

Eluvium - Prelude For Time Feelers

12/16/10 12:25 AM

Wow. That was... peaceful. I've heard the artist name before but never any songs. I'll have to listen to a few more now.

Here is what I'm currently listening to

The Enemy Guns - DeVotchka

12/16/10 4:10 AM

YES. DeVotchKa is an amazing band. Got to know them through the Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack.

One for the Mastodon fans!

12/16/10 8:35 AM

12/16/10 12:39 PM

all that power pop kindness gets on my nerves

Maximum the Hormone - ????

12/16/10 3:48 PM

Used to be a big Maximum The Hormone fan. I like this, mostly because it brings back the good old days to be honest.

This band supported Wolfmother. It should've been the other way around!

12/16/10 6:00 PM

Wolfmother always has stoner-rock openers. And as much as I like The Black Angels, Wolfmother puts on the better show. Anyhow, this album was decent, but their most recent is their best.

I Found That Essence Rare - Gang of Four

Not bad. Very chill.

Van Nuys

12/20/10 5:51 PM

I enjoy it in a guilty pleasure kind of way?

This one moves me in many ways.

12/20/10 9:42 PM

its a good song

now dance baby, dance

12/21/10 1:22 PM

Actually pretty danceable, catchy, soulful, yada yada yada. Got a Superstition thing going on. As for the music video, not my bag, but it doesnt get in the way either.

Kid606 - Mr. Wobble's Nightmare

12/21/10 3:51 PM

Kid606 is fucking amazing, I've seen him live once and it was quite the party!

Wish this guy opened for Nine Inch Nails when I saw them.

12/25/10 1:21 PM

I've listened to Autechre's remix too much to enjoy the original. Ninja Tune has gone so downhill with all these dubstep/grime artists recently.

Flying Lotus - Do The Astral Plane

12/26/10 12:14 AM

That's my favorite song on that album, right ahead of Galaxy in Janaki.

Got this album for Christmas. Oh yeah.
The Slew - 100%

12/26/10 7:38 AM

12/26/10 7:43 AM

Great track, great video. Just found out Eric Wareheim directed it. Makes it even more awesome.

Another video Wareheim directed. Brace yourselves.

12/26/10 1:39 PM

That is a great song, but the video is just awful. How did it get even released in a first place.

Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence

As much as I like the look of the video, I can't help but figure that it's being let down by the quality of the recording. In the last minute or so, there are hints of something interesting going on underneath the non-howled bits (which always come across as lazy, even when they're not courtesy of some dude in a studded wristband), but you just can't make them out properly. I have to admit, though, that recorded noise rarely does it for me. I don't especially love it live, either, but it generally works best as an in-person physical experience.

For something entirely different, how about the yodelling rock-out of Focus' "Hocus Pocus"? Even if it immediately strikes you as wanktastic crap from the '70s, give it a few minutes... it changes rather a lot from start to finish.

12/28/10 3:15 PM

You can wake me up in the middle of the night for songs like that. Love it.

Mike Patton WIN!
