But why quit MM? Seems like a good gig. I wonder what went down.

MM should have tried to work with Borland, btw. He gave them several songs that were all rejected. They were probably pretty good...

i see he's maintaining that look and he didn't just steal those glasses from quentin.

i think/hope that he moves on. theatrical rock is great but there's nothing great or "rocknroll" about watching a middle aged man try to pretend to be full of rage because he's pigeonholed into being that character.

i know ...another one of my manson rants.

i realize this isn't a trading/buying thread, but i couldn't find such a thing outside of the nin forum. i have original vhs copies of 'god is in the t.v.' and 'dead to the world' (both in good condition) selling on ebay as a bundle for around $10. they're vhs, fer the love, so obviously they're out of print. i'm going to post the address and apologize in advance if i'm violating forum rules:

Rob Zombie just tweeted that Ginger Fish has joined his band along side fellow ex-Manson member John 5.

Been a big fan since the 90s

Love everything he did up until Holywood - at the time Holywood was a bit of an anticlimax (for me) - wasn't the drastic image/sound change that Mechanical Animals was & the look seemed to be backtracking to antichrist superstar. Also Disposable Teens & Fight Song were pretty derivative, of Beautiful People & Song 2 respectively.

The album has grown on me over the years though, but it definitely broke his winning streak.

I was pretty horrified at the Tainted Love cover & video tbh! Always thought MM could do a cool cover of that song and...er... they didn't. And then Twiggy left, which fucking sucked

Golden Age was a HUGE letdown and personally I view it as fun in places, but a bit of a shark jumping moment. Lack of depth in the lyrics & artwork. Made a big hoo-ha about the Weimar Republic being a theme, but I didn't detect it that strongly. Does anyone else think This Is The New Shit sounds a lot like a tamer version of NIN's "Burn"? (I like both songs, but I detect a similarity).

I actually really liked "Eat Me, Drink Me"... I vastly prefer it's subdued approach to the kerrang/mtv metal stylings of GAOG.
Pretty far removed from the days of Antichrist, but I was willing to accept Manson had divided into a later, more mellow era, a bit like The Cure or something.

Also I saw them in Birmingham that year and it was fucking excellent, almost on a par with the Holy Wood tour.

So yeah then Skold left, Twiggy came back, slightly under par album with High End of Low, a pretty messy show in London around dec 2009 (I enjoyed it, but he was all over the place & the show was cheap looking) but, Pogo is long gone & Ginger recently left... it's looking a bit grim maybe... I have a feeling he can sort himself out & reinvent himself again though

edit -
order of preference
1. Antichrist Superstar
2. Mechanical Animals
2. Portrait of An American Family
3. Smells Like Children
4. Last Tour on Earth
5. Holy Wood
6. Eat Me, Drink Me
7. Golden Age of Grotesque
8. High End of Low

Been a fan since 1995, when I heard "Sweet Dreams". Baught the greastest hits disk.

05/23/11 2:56 AM

The site's been updated, including a very small clip/video of a new song.

05/23/11 4:04 AM

"Don’t ever believe what you read, especially if you are illiterate."

that's the coolest thing he has said in a long time.

although, the song doesn't sound very good from what i can hear.

05/23/11 4:07 AM

oh, and someone pointed out that the new 'M' font he's using for MM
is from the chinese oracle 'I Ching'

which is further evidence he's probably gathering inspiration from psychologist Carl Jung on this album..much like Mechanical Animals.

my fingers are crossed for something half as cool.

and all i think when i see this picture is the classic war movie problem of..."he's gone off the grid"

I like the bright colory look of the logo. The new site is refreshing. A lot better than THEOL era...whatever that was supposed to be.

Song is alright. It's only 10 secs though, so you can't draw much from it.

05/27/11 10:46 AM

I enjoy the new song snippet.

05/30/11 11:57 PM

anyone try putting the clip thru a spectrogram thingy? I don't know much about it other than the stuff from Year Zero but all the weird noise in this clip sounds like it might be hiding something

05/30/11 11:58 PM

well, if all the static and noise was part of the song..then the song would be interesting at least.

06/18/11 11:58 AM

i was so amazingly bored i decided to give a new listen to the MM discography

portrait is utter crap, even trent couldnt save this one

antichrist is not bad at all ! well it did take the help of Trent Reznor, Dave Ogilvie, Sean Beavan, Chris Vrenna, Charlie Clouser, Danny Lohner to make it that way but hey what the hell. lyrically whatever nonsense it took to piss off conservative parents but musically noisy, dirty, filthy good industrial sounds, perfect production and direction of mediocre at best guitar riffs and bass rhythms. very cohesive

Highlights
deformography, the reflecting god, dried up to the world

mechanical opens with a nice song & ends with a nice song, the rest is some tear jerker shit

holywood on a par with antichrist, again the album has a very cohesive industrial sound providing the perfect ground for Brian's "concept" story and also a very entertaining sonic circus about how we hate society and religion and stuff...
Big difference from the previous stuff ? John 5 ! The very first time the band has a good guitarist

Highlights
The Fight Song, burning flag

golden age; jesus can John 5 deliver a riff !i would love to have mobscene and few others in instrumental. some cool beats from Tim Skold applying whatever he learn while in KMFDM and OhGr
first album that is so guitar driven

Highlights
use your fist, he new shit, saint, vodevil

eat me, i can listen to half of heart shaped glasses before i get totally bored

the new testament twisting lyrical nonsense that Brian himself doesn't believe in is a bit of a downer but holy monkeys is "Little Horn" hell of a song, i miss those monster Trent riffs.

Mister Superstar "I know that I can turn you on / I wish I could just turn you off" one of the more honest lyrical attempts from manson, hell of a song once again (lead guitar Trent)

yeah, "new model no. 15", "i don't like the drugs" and "user friendly" i can't listen to without balling my eyes out.

in all honesty, in any way i see it, exercising all of my open-mindness, those songs are bad, simple as that.

i mean gee-zus, "user friendly" a whole fucking song around a lame double entendre ?

I've no idea what a double entendre is and I'm too lazy to check an english dictionary (english is not my language), but "User Friendly" is by far one of my favorite MM's songs. XD MA has many good songs, specially compared to many of his following albums imo. Nothing tops ACSS though, but MA is on his Top-3 albums.

07/05/11 5:38 PM

Recently i decided to actually get some of his 'work.' Previously i had only seen/heard of mostly his older stuff (Beautiful People et al) and a travesty of a song called 'If I was Your Vampire' (seriously, I tried to like it a few years ago, but it wouldn't even grow on me like Saul Williams' stuff did.).

I started, oddly enough, at Golden Age of Grotesque, after watching the "This is the New Shit" video on youtube and thinking, 'hey, that's not bad..'

The cd is good, but it seems to be all Arena Anthems, the stuff you'd expect to hear on RAW or some other 'I punch you face in' show.

I decided to go back to Holy Wood, which seems like 1/2 a cd. Once you get past 'the Death Song' it's just meh, and not very interesting...

Oddly, my next choice was Mechanical Animals. I say oddly, because, at the time I didn't know I was now following a story by going backwards thru his discog. This cd is purely amazing, I can't put my finger on a bad song, and it's very complete.

Well, by now I had figured out about the story, so i finished it with Antichrist Superstar, which is good, not great, I can see how it could be 'essential' though in his library.

At this point, I was still in search of a Marilyn Manson 'Hurt' or a 'Something i Can never Have.' By this i meant a song where he, himself, was singing a slow song that felt about how HE was tortured, and well...basically something like Coma White, but that song is (at least lyrically) about someone else.

So I jumped forward, to The High End of Low. Well...yeah....I've now realized he can actually do those songs and good! Really good! This cd, is like Mechanical Animals, simply perfect, and surprised me with pretty much every song, which is good, cause NiN no longer does that with Trent's new material.

IMO his best songs are, from oldest-> newest: Rock Is Dead, Posthuman, New Model, User Friendly, Disposable Teens, (S)Aint, Spade, Devour, Four Rusted Horses, Into The Fire, 15

So my question, should I check out Eat Me, Drink Me, even though that single about Vampires was horrible, and probably his worst? Is it worth it, in the slightest?

I think that EMDM is his most underrated album--to damn tired to write a mini review.

I'm feeling that way about THEOL. A lot of people don't seem to like it, as it's not 'classic' Manson. There's almost 0 shock value.

Haven't watched the video yet, but I kinda liked the song. Contrary to the popular belief, even a bad Marilyn Manson song beats the shit out of any Lady Gaga/Katy Perry/all other modern "pop" "music" today.

On a random note: since the new album is going to be "suicide death metal", he should use some Morbid Angel sounding riffs to get back at MA for ripping off a couple of his songs on their newest album. It would be more fun than suing them. Responding to their worst could even result in creating his best!

(And yes, I am still a Morbid Angel fan, even though their new album is shit)

09/02/11 10:15 AM

That's probably the most inspiring shit i've heard from manson in about 3 albums.

i don't like the pop manson. i like the experimental manson and this is definitely closer to that. hopefully the album will be even stranger.
