No, Wes was hired for playing shows. Twiggy is handling guitar and bass on the album.

I'm listening to all of Holy Wood for the 1st time in a long time and DAMN, it's still a kickass album. You gotta hand it to the old clown, he can make some nice muzak!

eye popping smiley Ahhh shit, thanks. I can be such a dumbfuck.

Honestly, I think I was just recalling reading articles about it 'round the time Holy Wood came out. Manson explaining the nature of this "trilogy" was about as confusing and idiotic as that sentence of mine.

Fixed that last bit for you...

No, you made sense, I'd read those articles at a time. I recall something about it being a concept, with the albums telling a story of some kind, but in reverse (Holywood being the first part, Antichrist being the last)

Yeaaahh...I just thought it was a cheap way to defend from the folks saying that HW sounded too much like Antichrist.

"No, no...see Holy Wood sounds like Antichrist...yeah...."

Nah, I was being a dick, but really though.. His whole concept trilogy (in my opinion) came about as a marketing scheme. I don't believe for a second that it was his intention from the start of Antichrist. But in the end, does that devalue it? I guess not. Most of us (the ones with glasses, anyway) knew that he was a businessman from the start.

Edit: BUT that trilogy is still one hell of a listen.

he's definitely more of a businessman - i think that's what the whole look and shock-tactics style of manson was all about. many bands did it before him - and they all made shitloads of money, and they were all massive pop-culture icons. some still are.

i think nin is much better music, and reznor is a much more versatile and creative musician, but he focuses more on the music, and less on his image or tactics to stay in the spotlight. manson had this down for over a decade, so while only nin fans really knew about nails - everyone with a tv knew who manson was.

not so much these days, as EMDM kinda arrived and vanished again almost as fast, probably due to the lack of so-called shocking lyrics & imagery, but right up until GAOG, there was a huge fanfare with each release, and the everpresent media wankers there to rip into him and push his image out there even more, which would inevitably bring more sales of his albums or dvd's or shoddy unauthorised books etc.

i think when all is said and done, nin will keep pushing through the dying industry in the coming years, and will keep evolving largely unnoticed by the 'pop-centric' world, while manson has a bit of a challenge now to get back into the limelight he was always in a decade ago.

if this next album bombs out too, which i hope it doesn't, as twiggy and vrenna should create something cool, but if it does, maybe he should continue to focus on his art rather than tap a dry well. either that, or he's finally got a second wind, and can come back in a massive way.

i hope he does come back with a kickass new album, as i'd hate to see EMDM and this one be the end of his music career when the pop industry is still managing to infect the world with the worst music ever conceived, teaching the kids that music is shit & cheap & worthless.

Hmmm...is Vrenna replacing Pogo or something? That could be interesting. Tweaker is freakin' amazing. Maybe if Manson got a little bit o' that magic on his side he could get a little piece of his verve back....

Lets hope he will give us some interesting lyrics and artwork. But from the rumoured songtitles I doubt that is going to happen...

Vrenna has replaced Pogo since 2007.

That's very intelligent of you, I also think it's a good idea to judge lyrics and artwork from rumoured song titles.

funny shit lol.

yeah vrenna and twiggy, it has to be better than the last 2 albums. tweaker kicks ass, twiggy was always better in manson than nails, and vrenna did some amazing stuff with mechanical animals too.

manson has gotta be falling on very hard times if he can manage to fuck this one up grinning smiley

it's supposedly coming out on valentines, but he also said he'd drop the first new track before the end of '08 as well. i'm as interested as anyone else to hear just a snippet of a song, lest this is his version of chinese democracy smiling smiley

Exactly. And that is one of the many reasons why I love NIN so much. MM is capable of creating great music as well, but his image is a turnoff for me. I mean, makeup is OK on the stage where every perfomer is more or less "acting" to entertain the crowds, but wearing that shit all day round... Crazy.

I think MM has become trapped inside this larger-than-life public persona that he has created. Everyone expects him to SHOCK. If he doesn't deliver enough blood, guts and Satanism, his fans whine that he's lost his "edge" and album sales go down faster than a groupie in the back of the tour bus.

I stated somewhere else in this thread that this album will be good - he's got a good, stable lineup this time. Vrenna knows what the fuck he's doing as does Twiggy. Ginger Fish is an underrated member and drummer altogether (which is sad that they always use a drum machine for recording).

I have my hopes up for this album.

Sweet Jebus, I haven't posted in here in a long time.

So apparently we're getting another track title tonight from his pal Rudy. And a story of how it came about.

UNRELATED: Does anyone else think Skold might be using the leftover music that Manson said he'd written for Skold v.s. KMFDM? Sounds plausible to me. Good business move I guess.. Quite a few good business moves being made this year.

Please tell me someone else is on to something with this Rudy Coby thing. Everything is right under our noses.

nah i don't think the kapt'n would be down for that. still, if he does it on the sly he may get away with it. i really hope they started off with a clean slate, as those guys always did collab better than skold & manson.

i think rudy whatever's full of shit. he's gushing over the album because he's good mates with manson, he feels bad about not giving him public props in the past, so is making damn sure he's gonna do it now instead.

he seems to be teasing the fuckers on the manson site too. he appears to have forgotten to drop his news as promised earlier in the day lol

Hey, you took terroja's word. You're in for solid gold there.

Yeah, I'm a member on there. Many are excited but I knew the news wouldn't be posted last night as said, it'd be too easy.

I really want more on song titles and an album theme then what's been given now.

01/12/09 2:50 PM

lol i thought that was hilarious. we have 400 gig of new material to wade through here, and those poor guys only have the dubious word of manson's mate to go on for the slightest tidbit of new info.

i think it's pretty shit that manson himself won't even update anyone unless they say something bad about fucking evan. nobody gives a shit about her, they wanna know about the music. he needs to sort his priorities there.

at least reznor had a unique way to keep people interested in his upcoming music. manson just fucks off and only comes back when he wants you to buy his stuff.

The expected lyrics can sort of be judged from titles like those. "I Wanna Kill You Like They Do in the Movies" and "Armagoddamnmotherfuckinggeddon" were mentioned by Manson himself, so not vague rumours like you seem to imply here.

However, if we do speculate, which is all we can do at this time, I'm keeping my expectations very low. Manson's last couple of albums ("Golden Age of Crap" and "Boohoo I'm a Vampire so Eat Me"winking smiley were quite dull, not only musically but especially lyrically. It all seems to sound like some old guy who used to be scary desperately trying to be "shocking". I know that little Brian mentioned in interviews that his vampire crapfest was inspired by Bela Lugosi and specifically Bela Lugosi's Dead by Bauhaus. I guess he wasn't kidding about the Bela Lugosi part, however instead of the vampires the actor was probably a metaphor for Brian's rock n roll career...

Manson has indeed changed in the past years and for the current lack of news is pretty poor. I hate it. I blame it all on pursuing art, 'Celebritarianism' movement, and a romantic life (which ultimately doomed him in 2003 and even now - yeah Evan meh) many years ago which have caused all this.

I love both artists equally so I do not compare them. As for music biz and the industry, Trent Reznor is the God of that. He is revolutionary.

But overall, I don't see why these two are compared so much (just besides the simple fact they were business partners and friends).

I don't expect the greatest titles but if those are true then they are crap, looking back on his work and literature skill in the 90's.

As for the other two albums, they may not be the greatest but I wouldn't dismiss them as TOTAL BULLSHIT. I like the Golden Age of Grotesque, it made for an interesting change for me but maybe I am just much more easy to please then most of the users I have read replies by in here. It was a style change, an experimental sound and most dismiss it badly because it lacks a tangible concept like ACSS and the music direction is more electronic at times. As for Eat Me, Drink Me it was a new record and it was fun, it had a few good tunes but overall it's not one I listen to often. It's too short and lacks depth and perception. Whatever.
