Manson's been hit rock bottom...

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41aeFgPNfXL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Before people get mad at me I'm only kidding. I like some songs off THEOL, but it doesn't sound like something I would have expected to hear from Marilyn Manson 10 years ago.

Not his best album, but it's not St. Anger either.

[en.wikipedia.org]

In a recent November interview with Eric Blair, Twiggy speaks about the new album. When asked about what is going on in the world of Marilyn Manson right now, Twiggy replied: "We've got a new album that we're working on. It's almost done. It'll probably be out next year. It's fantastic. It's our best record yet, I think. I mean, everyone always says that, but I think this is our best work so far. . . It's kind of like a little more of a punk rock 'Mechanical Animals' without sounding too pretentious."

Sounds great--really looking forward to this.

Yup.

Some Manson albums are better than others, but, overall, he has a solid body of work. I'm looking forward to the new one.

I would like to see TR and Warner work together again at some point. From what Trent said last week at the NYT interview, it seems like it could actually happen one day.

Werd. Yeah I've been on a Manson kick lately and I've even learned to appreciate Eat Me, Drink Me more than I used to. Even though his newer albums haven't been [imo] up to par with the Triptych, which are my favorite Manson albums, I still look forward to his new albums. I can usually find at least a handful of songs off a Marilyn Manson album listenable. Also, anything he puts out will still be better than half the things that are considered rock these days.

i pretty much agree with that last sentence...i couple of things i would point out though..

there's no way in hell his new album will be as cool as "a punk rock mechanical animals" because every album manson ever comes out with is super-hyped by him.
unlike trent, manson relies on his own ego...as sort of a padding to his persona so he doesn't ever have to sit back and say to himself "fuckkk, maybe i need some humility and to be humbled by the fact that my art is slipping...maybe i'll lay off the fuckin alcohol.."

ya know why? ...because alcohol generates a false idea in people's heads that they're better at everything than they actually are. we as consumers and critics need to pull his ass over.

the most i can say for manson at this point is that he's got a lot of fans like me that are just waiting...they download all his new albums ..hoping that ..that one will be the redemption of what used to be MM. and it's usually always the opposite directions but at least he's still got us expecting something from him...so, we haven't all given up.

and finally..manson will never work with reznor. there's nothing i would love more than to eat my own words on this ..but, it would never happen.

A-fuckin-men. Another quote from him about the album also refers to it as being "suicide death metal" and while that sounds pretty fucking awesome, as does punk rock + Mechanical Animals, you can't have both. Punk rock and death metal are two totally different genres.

Whatever the new album sounds like, I just hope Manson doesn't sell out.I haven't heard a single Manson album I haven't liked thus far.As Trent said, there is a lot of talent in that man.

Van Halen with David Lee Roth are supposedly recording an album now, so you never know...

01/18/11 3:51 PM

^sure you never now,
but seriously, what possible form could such a musical collaboration take ?
i mean other than trent writing the music and brian... putting on make up

i don't hate MarilynManson, there are a bunch of good songs under that logo but brian is as much a musician as madonna

He's a showman first and foremost, but he's also creative.

It's true though that he's depended on others to help him write and produce his songs (Twiggy, TR, Billy Corgan, John 5, etc).

01/18/11 8:52 PM

well, if his last 2 performances that i've seen are supposed to be a good idea of his showmanship ...he's not even good at being something that he's supposed to be good at being first and foremost.

overcharging his fans to watch him dry heave into the mic during all his overplayed singles for a whole whopping 40 minutes...

so creative

Can't speak to that, but I saw MM in '03 and '08 and felt that I definitely got my money's worth.

I gave "we're from america" a chance: a boring rhythm driving drum machine, a sad excuse for a guitar riff and the same all typical double entendre, "offensive" social commentary manson crap

he's aint getting no help no more

I won't disagree with you on your first point. I haven't actually listened to that song since it was first released, about two years ago. Not bad--sort of by-the-numbers MM and a little bit of a letdown, considering how Twiggy was back for that album. I still say that he's a creative guy and I have enjoyed most of his work.

As to your second point--Skinny Puppy did not invent fake blood, gore, etc. That goes way back to the 70s, with bands like Alice Cooper and KISS. So I would hardly accuse Manson of ripping-off Skinny Puppy for that. Although you are right about the slits.

I also saw MM in 2007 and thought it was worth the money (even though I had a shitty spot in the audience :/). His music has had this whole new direction for a good while, I just don't like the new style. THEOL isn't my kind of music >< definitely not, it just seems like Manson has lost his original voice, that I fell in love with. I mean, ofcourse bands make some changes, but this is too much of a change in my opinion...
EMDM is partly good... But I don't listen to it too often, I got so disappointed when it first came out. Meh.
The older music still sounds amazing though.

Bwahaha!! I kinda like that look actually. He looks like he needs some chapstick or something though.

02/09/11 3:42 PM

Just think where that middle finger has been....
Actually I don't want to think about it. ><

02/09/11 6:10 PM

It doesn't matter where it's been, he still doesn't have enough.

(my god, that was terrible)

02/09/11 6:31 PM

I was a bit disapointed with the high end of the low, but i think manson will redeem himself with the next album. smiling smiley

yeah, that was sorta bad..but the chapstick comment redeemed it because i've gone back to look at these pics a couple times today..and every time i see them it's funny now. i see what you're saying though..it's like the pics were taken directly after he had a lemon in his mouth.

They performed at the ETP Festival in Seoul, Korea today. There's many pictures from the show. See,

Availability? I wonder what he means by that? I wonder if he will be featured on the new album? Good luck to him.

all i can see..is it's his way of saying.."i know i'm available to work because i quit my job. now other bands will think of me when needing a drummer because i've publicly announced that i've quit my job."
