Unrelated... but is Danny Elfman like ... a fucking music scoring machine? I see his name everywhere..............

mod edit (by marodi): split this from another thread and made it into its own thread. Discuss what other scores you like and those who wrote them.

In my own humble opinion Danny Elfman is a LIVING GOD in the world or movie/tv scoring. He's worked a lot with Tim Burton but he also did work with a plethora of directors.

He began with Oingo Boingo, one of the most underrated band ever. That's where I first heard of him. To make a long story short: he eventually branched out into movie scoring, making this his principal occupation since he's gradually losing his hearing, a situation which was made worst by playing live with Boingo.

He's scoring work is so famous that most of you are familiar with it, maybe without knowing that he wrote it.

This is one of the things he wrote; you might have heard it before.

I love that crazy, creepy redhead. I was completely thorn last year when he and TR&AR were nominated against one another.

Also: this is my favorite Boingo song, although you may be more familiar with this one. Or this one.

I have been listening to film scores since I was a child. I LOVE film scores

Christopher Young
John Williams

Danny Elfman

Harry Gregson Williams

Hans Zimmer (though he can often be very overrated, overly repetitive & overly bombastic. He seems to be popular with the kids nowadays who don't listen to many scores to begin with. But when he shines, dude can shine)

John Debney

Alan Silvestri

Graeme Revell

John Powell

Michael Giacchino

James Horner's older stuff

James Newton Howard

Jerry Goldsmith

Michael Kamen

Brian Tyler

David Newman

John Powell

Elmer Bernstein

I love a lot of those you listed, good sir!

One I also love is Elliot Goldenthal. His score for Interview with the Vampire is nothing short of magnificent. I've been listening to it since it came out in 1994 and I never got tired of it.

First and foremost for me would be Jesper Kyd, who did the electronic, acoustic, choral, and symphonic music to the Hitman series, Assassin's Creed series. I mostly like his hitman work, but I also like some of the AC songs, a couple songs from Robotech Invasion, the Freedom Fighters soundtrack, and a song from his Ultimatum film soundtrack. I actually got to meet him in person in November.

I also like:

*Hans Zimmer for his Inception score

*Mark Willott for a quite fantastic score to the game "Cold Winter"

*Mark Snow for the "the X-Files" music

*Brian Eno for his "Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks"

Bernard Herrmann for this scores to the Alfred Hitchcock films Vertigo and Psycho

Paul Leonard Morgan for his Limitless score

I might be leaving some out...

Thanks - obviously another anime fan in the house!

I can't believe I forgot to mention Joe Hisaishi though - some of his music is heavenly!

Atticus Ross did the soundtrack for The Book of Eli? Holy smokes. I love that soundtrack. When I finished watching the movie I was like "The soundtrack is a masterpiece, I wonder who did it. Uhm." But now that I finally discover it was Atticus who did it, it is all very clear. The guy is a genius.

Also I would like to say other cool score composers and films:

Mike Shinoda and Joseph Trapanese for the film The Raid Redemption.
Massive Attack for the film Danny the Dog (aka Unleashed).
Nathaniel Mechaly and Maxime Garoute for the film Revolver.
Brad Fiedel for the film Terminator.
Thomas Newman for the film American Beauty.
