Not necessarily the best years for music, but my most personal.
2005 - In 2004, Florida started getting hit with multiple hurricanes; the second of which resulted in most radio stations, including my usual classic rock station, being down. However, a modern rock station still played music. As a result, I started to discover the music of the world around me. 2005 was the first full year in which I was exploring and trying to find my identity.
2007 - I discovered YouTube, which, along with a couple other music sites, helped me continue discover music I have been missing out on. While, at the same time, I was watching the music video network Fuse, the only major one at the time that was still dedicated to showing music videos. Also, with the help of Revolver magazine, I started transitioning into the metalhead you see today. Specifically via the five-star review for The Apostasy by the death metal band Behemoth. Having discovered Lamb Of God at the beginning of the year, I started to find myself ready for extreme metal, though the Behemoth CD needed several listens. The then-current Slayer album Christ Illusion was also a massive help.
2011 - My brother set me up with Pirate Bay, which helped me get deeper into the bands I have always been curious about. Though I haven't used it since I gave up my computer to get it "fixed" (though I got it back less than two months ago) and governments on both sides of The Pond have been trying to fuck around with internet users over piracy.
