Arcade Fire

Any Arcade Fire fans out there? Anytime I put Funeral into the rotation I still end up stuck on it for a few days. I haven't had the chance to see them live yet and with no news on a new release, it may be a while. Something to look forward to, I guess.

After I heard funeral when it first came out, I was beyond blown away. They're still one of the best bands in my opinion and (after a LONG wait) they finally toured down here and I got to see them, best performance EVER.
Something to look forward to indeed!

love them, never tire of them (the way I sometimes do with others). I think Funeral would be in my Top 10 all time favourites

I'm starting to wonder if I'm ever going to see this band live.tongue sticking out smiley

I liked Neon Bible...its the only one that I got.

"Working for the church, while the family dies" is a really great line of lyric from "Intervention"

I have both their albums. I love their music. It's better than U2. IMO
AF opened for U2. I hope they tour here next year.

i saw them with lcd soundsystem and goxxip last year in seattle. i was a marginal fan before the show and i've been drowning in their work ever since. it was the most incredible performance i've ever seen, and i've been to 8 nin shows.

just sayin'.

Yeah, Funeral is a great album.

It sounds stupid, but the idea of a new Arcade Fire album is both exciting & scary for me at the same time.
It's that I really love this band, but I don't know how i'll react if I find myself not enjoying what they release. (I've not encountered this same anxiety with many of my favourite artists, but this is not the only case)
So I'll be holding off on listening untill I've got The Suburbs in full.

Great band. Meaningful and powerful music. I recommend Arcade Fire to any young(ish) middle class pseudo-christian suburban people who really wish the Bible could solve all their problems...but are sorely disappointed. The only good thing Ive ever seen from Canada (jk). But seriously, i dont like canadians.

I'm not a die-hard but I like this band and will check out their new CD. Looks good. Here's the AMG review:

4/5

Montreal’s Arcade Fire successfully avoided the sophomore slump with 2007’s apocalyptic Neon Bible. Heavier and more uncertain than their near perfect, darkly optimistic 2004 debut, the album aimed for the nosebleed section and left a red mess. Having already fled the cold comforts of suburbia on Funeral and suffered beneath the weight of the world on Neon Bible, it seems fitting that a band once so consumed with spiritual and social middle-class fury, should find peace “under the overpass in the parking lot.” If nostalgia is just pain recalled, repaired, and resold, then The Suburbs is its sales manual. Inspired by brothers Win and William Butler’s suburban Houston, TX upbringing, the 16-track record plays out like a long lost summer weekend, with the jaunty but melancholy Kinks/Bowie-esque title cut serving as its bookends. Meticulously paced and conservatively grand, fans looking for the instant gratification of past anthems like “Wake Up” or “Intervention” will find themselves reluctantly defending The Suburbs upon first listen, but anyone who remembers excitedly jumping into a friend’s car on a sleepy Friday night armed with heartache, hope, and no agenda knows that patience is key. Multiple spins reveal a work that’s as triumphant and soul-slamming as it is sentimental and mature. At its most spirited, like on “Empty Room,” “Rococo,” “City with No Children,” “Half Light II (No Celebration),” “We Used to Wait,” and the glorious Régine Chassagne-led “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains),” the latter of which threatens to break into Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” at any moment, Arcade Fire makes the suburbs feel positively electric. Quieter moments reveal a changing of the guard, as Win trades in the Springsteen-isms of Neon Bible for Neil Young on “Wasted Hours,” and the ornate rage of Funeral for the simplicity of a line like “Let’s go for a drive and see the town tonight/There’s nothing do, but I don’t mind when I’m with you,” from album highlight “Suburban War.” The Suburbs feels like Richard Linklater’s Dazed & Confused for the Y generation. It’s serious without being preachy, cynical without dissolving into apathy, and whimsical enough to keep both sentiments in line, and of all of their records, it may be the one that ages so well.

In b4 pitchFUCK "review".

It took a little more than one go through, doesn't have the immediacy of Funeral or the multiple stylistic approaches that made Neon Bible work on first listen, but given half a chance, it removes all doubt & you can't help but feel touched by it's winsome yet humble delivery.
It's a really great album. & some of their best writing too imo.

I have yet to hear their newer songs. I really liked "Neon Bible" so I hope their newer album will be just as good or almost as good.

08/02/10 8:06 PM

i hope to be seeing them live in 9 days.

08/10/10 9:52 PM

The Suburbs album is incredible.

08/13/10 12:16 PM

I bought their first 2 albums. I haven't bought the new one yet.

EDIT:
OK forget what I just said. I just found out they're coming here.
Tix haven't gone on sale yet. I'd better go & buy the new album now.

See you soon Win & Reg. Fuckin A. I'm so excited!!!!!!

^^ the internets are running over with douchebaggery these days, in general. How can they win if I've never heard of them? LOL.

I was definitely pulling for them and quite enjoyed their victory song.

I think all their albums are great.

Congrats to Arcade Fire for the Album of the Year Award.

They are playing in Chicago in April with one of my favorite bands The National. I am seriously thinking about making a trip out there to see this show since I can't make it to Coachella.

Have you seen their cool interactive music video?

We Used To Wait

Very excited to see them next month!
