Recently downloaded his albums, and they're pretty good. He definitely flows, and the music is a lot better then most other rap. There are a few songs on Late Registration I always skip, because they're too annoying for me. He best songs are the ones where he collaborates with artists that you wouldn't expect to be in a rap song(Daft Punk, the guy from Maroon 5, John Mayer, etc). Sure he's cocky, but as long as he doesn't start singing "this is why I'm hot, you ain't cause you not", I'm cool with it. Anyone else into him? or am i in for a flaming...

I'm with ya. I like how good the music is. It isn't like other rap. His music definitely goes back to the jazz roots. I'm not into rap at all but all of his albums are pretty solid and I really enjoy them from time to time.

kanye is alright with me.there are some really great tracks on 'graduation'.i'm usually into the more intellectual hip hop but he's a nice blend of that and the mainstream without completely ruining the genre.i find him refreshing because rap is becoming so materialistic nowadays its good to hear someone that still tries to think outside that box.he's not my favorite but i like him.

09/02/08 11:34 AM

Oh he's supposed to be good right?

Oh wait, he opens his uneducated mouth and sputter off about government affairs the likes of which he has no concept of. Yeah. He needs to crack a few books.

09/02/08 3:13 PM

Awesome, wasn't expecting anyone else to like him. Does anyone else have any other artists like him? the intellectual hip hop? plus mike myers face was priceless, haterrrrzzz.

What was so funny about that was the fact that just before that Hurricane katrina telethon (where all those fake, sycophantic celebrities were 'acting' like they actually cared), he was named "smartest man in Hip/Hop". Opened his mouth and out came words of dumbassery. I mean seriously, what a moron. Howard Stern talking about fart jokes came off as more intelligent sounding than Kanye West's "George Bush don't care about Black People" racist diatribe.

Was he wrong?

i wouldn't say these artists are like kanye but if you would like some more meaningful hip hop you may enjoy... canibus, atmosphere, pharoahe monch, mos def, saul williams of course and anything by the wu tang.i have more but give them a try, i think you'll like it.

Of course he was wrong! That was one of the dumbest things ever said in the history of motion picture television!! He sounded like he had a 3rd grade education with that racist diatribe of his. Seriously. Dropout indeed.

*and don't misconstrue my comments as pro-Bush, either*

I think you're being a bit hyperbolic. The humor of it was that Mike Myers was completely caught off guard by his statement(as was anyone else), and the look he gave Kanye was the funny part. You can't blame him for being pissed about the little that was being done at the time. I'm not as passionate on the subject as you so I'm not really in for an e-debate.

Thanks for the other artists bashavusta

the thing about it all is that kanye is somethin somewhat original (despite the sampling) i've liked kanye since the early days and pretty much followed all of his work, he may be arrogant but Kanye West the rapper is very different from Kanye West the person, and i respect the rapper, dont care much for the person IMO

09/05/08 2:52 PM

i just got into kanye. i was able to catch a few mintues of him live at lollapalooza this year but he was playing the same times as nails.. if they weren't playing at the same time i would have liked to have seen his whole set.

I'm quite fond of Kanye.

Just for the record, he said "George Bush does not care about black people." If you're going to quote something to base an argument on him having a lack of intellect in his "racist diatribe" you speak of, at least quote him right.

New c.d 808's & Heartbreak and will be released December 16th. I'm not into the single from it, Love Lockdown. that auto-tune singing thing annoys me.

09/12/08 10:34 PM

Oh! I was watching MTV a while back and Kanye performed some songs live in a special (not VMAS, just Kanye himself): Heard 'em Say, Roses, Hey Mama, Spaceship, and some others. I really enjoyed the performance and luckily had DVR back then so I watched it often. But I've been trying to get a copy online and I can't find it anywhere! If anyone knows where I can get it please let me know!

I dont have his newest album but I have late registration....awesome album! I dunno if I should get his newest album tho...didnt really like stronger

love me some kanye

Very confused guy at best. Materialistic, self-righteous, hypocritical, hyped-up hack at worst. Overrated either way. He only sounds original contrasted with other big acts you hear on commercial radio, most of which we probably all agree create a LOT of crap.

I'm not sure he's really so different from other mainstream hip hop acts that he tries to differentiate himself from. He needs to take an honest look at himself and lose the messiah complex.

Incidentally TR threw some smack talk Kanye's way at the NIN show in Salt Lake the other week. So at least one person I respect agrees with me.

Couldn't help but take the opportunity to vent that out. Thanks. No disrespect intended.

Fuck Kanye West!

I waited for that motherfucker at Bonnaroo 2008 for over two hours, and the glow in the dark of his "glow in the dark tour," wasn't very glowy when he showed up for his set two (two and a half) hours after his set was supposed to begin (at 5:30 am when the sun was rising!).
