WOOHOO!
It's indeed a nice song. It sounds so much fresher than her recent output. If AATS expands on what's going on here, I think we're going to have a very good album on our hands.

Ugh, what the sweet hell has happened to her?!?!?!?!!?!?

She is no where near a horrid song writer, I am sure her improv's could blow away any main stream artist out of the water, but something between her initial thought process of the album and the actual album something goes HORRIDLY astray.

Everything seems so perfect and so forced. And that is never the feeling I used to get from her music. I am not wanting another Choirgirl, or another Pele, but I want something that organic. I never get that same feeling from her albums post Scarlett anymore. I miss hearing her breathe on the album. I miss hearing the pedal!!!! I miss hearing her knock the piano with her ring.

Scarlett felt like "something", you know? Like it felt like a road trip. I just think that she is in charge of her production to much. It is to stagnant. She keeps the same people around her and constantly produces her own music, and while I think that lots of people can produce their own albums wonderfully ( and she did with BFP and FTCGH) I find that she just isn't doing anything new. A few new songs on the album ( from what I have heard from the videos I have watched) Give and Flavour sound different. The others I can give or take. 500 miles sounds like something out of the Lawrence Welk show. I just expect dancing poodles to come out.

I want the girl with the piano back. I am not saying solo songs and tours and all that. Choirgirl was still very much a piano album. You could hear it. When I buy a Tori album I buy it to hear her and the piano, not Matt Chamberlain or her husband painfully riffing away on the geetar.

I dunno, the new album doesn't suck, but I just want more. So so so so so so so so much more. I almost wish she wouldn't put something out every two years so that we could have something solid. We don't need dvd's and visualettes and stickers and dolls and 19 song albums with extra songs on the website and all that.

I just want a fucking album, with some good songs.

Since the new album is out now, what does everyone think about it (you can listen to it for free on her myspace page)? Some songs have immediately grabbed me and some I think may take some time.....

I love Tori so much. She is amazing and the organization she co-founded (RAINN), I will forever be grateful for. I love the new album, but I agree with thischickknits on a couple things. There are 2 or 3 songs on her new album that produced a WTF?! reaction on my face. But she's incredible and if I didn't pay $110 for my Nails ticket, I would be seeing her live again. hehe

I must also add that she is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. grinning smiley

I am extremely underwhelmed by AAtS and the majority of ADP. I love Tori.. I discovered her in high school and Little Earthquakes became the soundtrack to it all. From the Choirgirl Hotel is by far my favorite..I don't think "Northern Lad" ever fails to make me sob, and I love the electronic elements of the rest of the album in contrast. Everything up to and including Scarlet's Walk is pretty much all-killer-no-filler.

These days I have no idea what happened to her. The angst is gone. I didn't like that she jumped on the political bandwagon for ADP. She seems to be a bit vain now--her outfits, make up, poses--the whole nine yards. I'm quite sure she's had some kind of work done. The Tori of the 90s and early 00s was nothing like that at all. The music and live performances seemed to be the most important aspects.

That being said, I saw her twice on the ADP tour and her voice and musicianship are still out of this world. Her voice is absolutely beautiful, she'll always have that going for her.

That song always gets me as well. So sad and beautiful. And Choirgirl Hotel is my favourite album of hers as well smiling smiley

I'm seeing her live in July.

Love Tori's stuff, have my sister to blame for getting me into her.

though have to say Beekeeper was poor effort imo, Dollposse was only marginaly better, and while ive not listened that much to AAtS i like it a lot more then the previous efforts.

Like thischickknits says i want Tori and her Piano, thats when he songs are at there best.

also i wish she cut down on some of the crap on her recent records.

all the first ones were around 12 songs long, not shes giving us 18+, now id be loving it if the whole thing was awesome but when a lot of the tracks on the recent albums are to be blunt pretty crap(and i hate saying that about her stuff)i just wish she'd reign it in a bit, cut the track list down and release a more even effort.

I got her new album off Amazon MP3 for about 3 bucks. it was a one day thing only. I'm digging it so far.

Little Earthquakes is amazing. She could never top that, IMO

I personally think she did with UTP, FTCH, TVAB, SW, and especially BFP. tongue sticking out smiley

I liked the Pink album and the Doll Posse. I haven't heard the new one yet.

I still think she's brilliant!

I can't stand anything post choirgirl hotel.

Before that she's wonderful.

08/18/09 11:31 AM

I saw Tori last night in Boston and she was wonderful. The 5th time I've seen her. She always mixes it up and plays a different setlist.

I liked SW, but didn't really care for the Beekeeper, but I really liked ADP and AATS.

It's hard to say what has gone wrong with her music. Even die hard fans of hers have turned away and are not ever interested in what she is producing currently. I saw her cd in the store and I don't even want to hear how bad it is. Too depressing. She is on a career path that is like, HUH!? I don't get it. He "quirkiness" worked in the 90's. I saw her once in 98' and that was a kick ass show. Now she is 40-something and she has not really evolved as an artist should.
The last really great single was "Sorta Fairtale". After that I just tuned her out.

New Holiday album

I listened to Boys for Pele for the first time in a while and have a whole new appreciation for it. I always ranked it below the first two albums but am starting to rethink that. "Horses" is one of the best songs she's written, IHMO and "Caught a Lite Sneeze" is also a Tori classic.

I hope she tours the States in support of the holiday album, would love to see her in concert again.

The Beekeeper was, overall, not that great. Can't quite put my finger on it--maybe it's the male back-up singing...for whatever reason, it's just not that great. I will say, however, that those songs sound great live--she sang maybe four of them when I saw her a few months back. I thought ADP and AATS were great.

Yes, I've been a fan of Tori for about 8 years. Little Earthquakes is what I first heard by her. That album is awesome! Although, I like her older music more than the newer stuff she's done. I'm this way about most of the artists that I like actually.

11/23/09 3:33 PM

Midwinter Graces is actually really, really good. Wasn't sure if it would be, as holiday albums seem kind of gimmicky. But I think it's quite strong. Some original compositions, too.

"From the choigirl hotel" is an indescribably beautiful and dark music experience and therefore it's my favourite album by her.

I really can't stand the new Tori - sorry! "The beekepper" contains some good tunes but I feel simply embarrassed for "American doll posse" and "Abnormally attracted to sin". What happened to her clean, "normal" voice? The fake accent and the sweet baby voice she uses now spoil almost every single song she's written since then. I'll give "Midwinter graces" a try, despite the terrifyingly bad album cover.

"Flavor" on AATS though is surprisingly amazing, it has this certain melancholic and lugubrious feeling from FTCH.

Yes, and it is fucking EPIC. It's this seething, creepy, female-power cover. Just Tori, the piano, and some bass by JMJ himself. She said that, when she first heard the song, she pictured a huge vulva raining blood over the Taliban. grinning smiley

LOL! I never knew that. I like it even though I couldn't figure out where in the hell she was until the end. Even Slayer said the exact same thing. They were astounded by her cover so much they sent her louds of Slayer merchandise.

Tori's music has always had a special place for me and I guess i've been listening for about 13 years. She does it for me. What more can you ask for - a great musician, original player/producer, integral lyrics, emotional, georgeous and all woman! She's controversial - she has a mind and speaks it.
Much of her material is irreplaceable but i am yet to see her live performing it. I would prefer just to see Tori with piano however, not costumes, alter egos or big production. I hope this will be possible one day.

Tori kicks ass!

I was just thinking how I wish she was going on tour in the States this summer. I've seen her five times and she is awesome. The last show that I saw was in August at the Bank of America pavilion in Boston (right on the Boston harbor) and it was magical.

I love Tori. Favorite albums are Boys for Pele and Abnormally Attracted to Sin.

It's a Barnes and Noble exclusive. I was going to grab a copy at some point.
