Yeah it's a new song, but he hasn't put out a studio version yet!!!! I'm dying to have one as well as every other Pumpkins fan.

if you have, is it anything like the Pearl Jam boots or do they come in a Jewel case etc?

Look, it may be a fucking commercial sellout, but Feel Our Love sounds amazing.

The last vocal screech is the best part of the SP2.

Sad, huh?

Did anyone have "If All Goes Wrong" ?
Is it good enough to buy it (financial crisis, end of the world and stuff) ?

About FOL, it's like Zeitgeist's songs : no soul.
They are still amazing in live but Billy seems to be unable to write with his kind of "magical" skill that created all their past albums.

02/02/09 5:47 AM

Never understood why they're so popular. Whatever "spark" they once had is long gone.

I heard just one song from the latest album, it had a really flashy, expensive-looking vid but I kept thinking how dull and repetitive the music sounds...

I hate it when artists try make up for the lack of musical quality by producing "spectacular" videos.

Just picked up Adore, which is a lot better than people give it credit for. A few tracks could be cut, but otherwise, I rather like it.

On the other hand, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is really a bloated overrated lyrical hole. Cut it down to just the singles and you'd have a decent EP.

02/02/09 7:07 PM

agree with Adore, it's a very underrated album.
took me awhile to love it but glad i never gave up on it.

as for the dvd If All Goes Wrong, it's not that great to me.
the documentary wasn't bad but didn't really enjoy the concert stuff.

I couldn't agree with you more in regards to Adore, however I couldn't disagree with you more in regards to Mellon Collie. Are you honestly saying that 1979, BWBW, Tonight, Tonight, Thirty-Three, and Zero are the only "decent" songs on the album? Apparently you didn't listen to Thru the Eyes of Ruby. Mellon Collie is easily one of my top 5 albums, I realize this sounds cliche but it's like a journey everytime I listen to it. It's a really good mesh of hard rock songs (i.e. Fuck You (An Ode To No One), Jelly Belly, Tales of a Scorched Earth, XYU) along with the more slow beautiful songs (i.e. Tonight, Tonight, Beautiful, By Starlight.) I'm probably a bit bias here since Smashing Pumpkins are one of my favorite bands but I definitely think you need to listen to it again. I would like to take this time to say that I feel that Love is a very underrated Smashing Pumpkins song.

My main beef with the recent Smashing Pumpkins tracks, is that they're really repetitive. Lot's of "Come on"s and stuff like that, it just doesn't seem like Billy is trying anymore. at least he takes the time to create good riffs.

Why, they've become absolutely dreadful with the waah waah waah and repetitive GEE-TARS and the bland mediocrity that HURTS ME in the hoivin.

I just listened to them for the first time, I think they're pretty cool. What album should i start out with? Do they have any greatest hits? I listened to 1979, today and Bullet with butterfly wings. They're all awesome.

they do, indeed, have a Greatest Hits package. you may as well start there, find out which songs you really like come from which albums, and go get those albums. the two "big" Pumpkins records are Siamese Dream (has Today) and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (has 1979 and Bullet With Butterfly Wings, but it's a very long listen).

in regards to Pumpkins news, they've apparently got Frank Quinto searching their archived material and deciding what to release. he's apparently been hoarding bootlegs and tattling on other tapers since before he got this job. it'll be interesting...

Actually, I would leave Zero for Pisces Iscariot too... think about the Broken EP. That would suck as an album. Well, not suck, but it would be just a giant rageful overkill. That is what Mellon Collie is for sadness, in my opinion. The lyrics for Siamese Dream were honest and open. The lyrics for Adore were darkly poetic. The lyrics for Mellon Collie and the the Machinas were more like pandering to teenage ennui which I guess is fine, if thats your thing. Zeitgeist just had weak songs, similar to Adore, except overwrought. Dont get me wrong, musically Mellon Collie is right next to Siamese Dream (although I prefer the layered guitar of Siamese Dream. Soma is beautiful.)

Also, Billy's in the news- defending the merger

wow, Gish completely slipped my mind. I have no idea why. But yes, I enjoyed Gish very much. Additionally, thanks for bringing up Corgan's manager, I was unaware. Not sure of the ramifications, however. I edited my post so as to look less like trolling in a Smashing Pumpkins forum.

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS' BILLY CORGAN ANNOUNCES THE DEPARTURE OF JIMMY CHAMBERLIN FROM THE GROUP

CORGAN SET TO HEAD INTO THE STUDIO TO CREATE NEW SMASHING PUMPKINS MUSIC

The SMASHING PUMPKINS' guitarist, singer, songwriter and founding member Billy Corgan has announced that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the group. Chamberlin joined the band Corgan founded in Chicago in 1988 and played on all their albums except Adore (1998). Corgan will continue to write and record as SMASHING PUMPKINS with plans to head into the studio this spring.

You can discuss this topic with others on the SP.com forum in THIS THREAD, however you will need to be logged-in to SP.com to do so.

Any hope for something good from the "Smashing Pumpkins" dies in 3....2.....

03/21/09 5:42 PM

Sad to hear about Jimmy leaving once again. We'll see how Billy can manage by himself. He should get some pointers from Trent on how to produce a CD by himself. Although I think those two would want to kill each other after about 1 minute in the same room together.

03/21/09 6:49 PM

Good news is we can look forward to another Adore. Chamberlain is a great drummer, but I think hes the reason Zeitgeist was bludgeoned to death.

The Smashing Pumpkins were my first favorite band. I remeber listening to them in the 2nd grade, MCIS was my favorite album until I was introduced to Siamese Dream, then it was all over for me. I was hooked.

All my life I felt an obligation to support the band's projects, Zwan, the Billy Corgan solo shit, the Jimmy Chamberlain complex... some of it great, some not.

Then I got to meet Billy during his solo show, and it was the greatest moment of the life thus far..

Then... everyone split. It was bad enough that D'ary and James left, because (and this may sound odd) it felt like a family I had grown up with just got divorced. I was really bummed. I don't mean to sound creepy, but when you grow up loving a band and then they fall apart, it's like all those cool memories fall apart too.

And the rumor is, Jimmy is leaving now too. What is happening to the Pumpkins??

I want 1993 back.

Yeah, I bought one of their shows from AC.. the cd is not in a jewel case, but rather similar to how Pearl Jame bootlegged all of their lives shows when they sold them in stores. Just heavy cardboard paper you can slip a disc into. It opens up, but there isn't a booklet or anything with them either. Good quality recordings though, I'd recommend.

Unfortunately, it's probably more like
JC leaving = BC makes thefutureembrace 2

Even after james left, the fact that jimmy was still on board was enough to get me to buy Zeitgeist(sadly). The fact that Billy is keeping the "Smashing pumpkins" alive just seems geared toward milking as much cash as he can out of a loyal/desperate fanbase. His inability to let go, is killing one of the last bands I loved from my childhood.

I think they're good. I don't own any of their albums though. I heard a remake of a an old CARS song they did on the radio the other morning while I was gettnig ready for work. Unfortunately, the thought that went through my head was, "When are they going to put out more orignal material. I seems like everytime I hear them anymore they're remaking someone else's songs."

But I do also appreciate such lines as "today is the greatest day I've ever known" It's a pretty profound lyric when you think about it.
