Shpongle

I'm not really sure how to describe them....maybe psychedelic/electronica? The tracks on their albums flow together, basically forming one giant song, but if I had to choose I'd say "Monster Hit", "Outer Shpongolia", "Once Upon the Sea of Blissful Awareness" and "Around the World in a Tea Daze" are good to start with if you've never heard them before. "Room 23" and "Divine Moments of Truth" are good too.

I'm big fan of Shpongle as well. Are You Shpongled? is my favorite album, but they are all amazing. Really wish I could see them live.

A couple friends got me into Shpongle a couple years ago. I'm a big fan of anything goa trance based.

someone burned me a disc of their music. i was ok with it. do you have to be high to enjoy this or something?

Shpongle's type of music is usually associated with psychedelic drugs, kinda the same way Pink Floyd is.

You don't need to be high to enjoy it though. I'd say the proper way to experience Shpongle is sitting in the dark in a relaxed environment.

Shpongle is coming to Portland next Friday! I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it, but I hope I can. Anyone know the difference between a live set and a DJ set? The show I'll be seeing is a DJ set, not really sure what that means.

They're popular with people into psychedelics; a lot of their music is inspired by DMT.

Anyway, I love this song and video:

There's a new EP out btw, called The God Particle. It's quite good.

I saw them play a live set a few weeks back. It was one of the most mind-bending performances I've ever seen, and I was completely sober and not on any drugs.

If you need drugs to understand/appreciate Shpongle, then you're missing the point.

Jacob - DJ set will just be Roger Ram and Simon Posford spinning tunes, whereas live set is the entire band (Simon on keys/samplers, Roger on...flute...and other weird shit, two vocalists, live drums, live bass, live guitars).

Oh yeah, I saw a Shpongle DJ set back in April. It was...quite a night haha. I would have rather seen them in a live setting, but it was still really great for just a DJ set. Simon had this giant stage called the "Shpongletron" and it was wicked cool. He also played a few Hallucinogen songs throughout the night. Also, the crowd was full of so many strange and awesome people. I even spotted a few ninnies!

But yeah, I just wanted to say again how much I love this band, and Simon Posford in general haha.
