Alright asshats, This here's a Beatles thread. Everything and anything Beatles. Dig?

*waits for Lee, if she's even on here*

08/16/08 10:16 PM

My other favourite band. grinning smiley

08/16/08 10:27 PM

Yay! A reply. Lol.

08/17/08 12:02 AM

I love everything from Rubber Soul through Let It Be.

Tomorrow Never Knows might be the best song ever written.

08/16/08 11:21 PM

I've just recently started listening to them and already I'm sick of the general response I get from people when they see The Beatles on my MP3 player. Usually something along the lines of: "Ugh! The Beatles! Everyone likes them ... but not me!", as though they're deserving of a fucking medal.

Such complete disregard for some of the worlds best music. And it's all on the basis that these people don't want to listen to something that "everyone else" is listening to. Then they turn around and continue on their merry little way with Nirvana or Kaiser Chiefs spitting shit in their ears. Idiots.

The Beatles are awesome. THere would be no bands like Nirvana without them. Their early stuff was good pop stuff, but they wouldn't be that great without their post Rubber Soul music.

08/17/08 2:44 AM

As my dad once said, not liking The Beatles is like not liking bread. They are such a monumental part of musical history that covers so much ground, that it's simply impossible not to like them. And yes the people who don't like The Beatles are people trying to show off by being a dumbarse.

08/17/08 4:41 AM

I love the song Sergent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club band and the song from The Wonder Years.

08/17/08 8:07 AM

The Beatles is the greatest band ever. NIN is second. winking smiley

Oh yes, I love them! 'Sgt. Pepper’s' is my favorite record. They wrote such great Songs and great melodys. Unbeatable! smiling smiley

08/17/08 7:27 PM

I remember I got into an argument a month or two ago with some scene kid about how The Beatles were more influential than From First To Last
Anyways, though, they're my all-time favorite band. My favorite album of their's is Revolver

08/17/08 8:51 PM

I simply ADORE The Beatles. Fave song has to be "Yellow Submarine".

08/17/08 9:59 PM

"Tommorow Never Knows" sounds fresh---even now. If you just threw that on the radio and didn't tell anyone who it was people would be flipping out at how different it is...

The White Album is so incredibly amazing! What's funny/great/amazing about the Beatles is when you listen to an album or a song you haven't heard in a million years and the context of it has changed dramatically.

...And The Medley from Abbey Road? Come on! Pure Art...all the way.

08/17/08 11:54 PM

What are everyone's top three favorite albums of The Beatles'? Mine are:

1.) Revolver
2.) Abbey Road
3.) The White Album/Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

08/18/08 11:57 AM

1.) Abbey Road/Sgt. Pepper's
2. The White Album
3. Magical Mystery Tour/Revolver

I know that's actually 5, but it had to be that way.

Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper's are great in different ways, but overall I think the medley is the greatest part of any Beatles album ever. However, the first half of Abbey Road isn't quite as great, and songs like Day In The Life blow songs like Octopus' Garden out of the water. So I say they're about even.

The White Album holds together the least as an album, but it does have some great songs form their creative peaks. One drawback is Revolution #9, which I guess I appreciate it as something new, but one of the rare Beatles songs I have to skip.

Revolver and Magical Mystery Tour are also good in different ways, and I'm not going into as much detail.

with the beatles, i like to think that they changed (in a musical terms) as much as if backstreet boys would have taken drugs were gone doing good alternative rock music. i mean, c'mon , the gap between "hard day's night" and "sgt pepper's lonely hearts club band" is huge!

i'm beginning to love them more and more.

08/24/08 5:00 PM

Found myself forced to download mp3's since a person I do not want to see ever again, has all my Beatles vinyls. I recently started listening to them, love what I've heard so far but not quite familiar with all their work.

08/24/08 5:14 PM

Yesterday makes me want to punch someone's nose flat, Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da ought to be blown out of existence with dynamite, When I'm 64 makes me want to blow my own brains out and there's a lot of their back catalouge that leaves me a bit meh...

But McCartney doing Helter Skelter at Glastonbury was phenomenal... even if the man is completely lost in happy Maccaland and refused to do more than a cursory check-in with Yellow Submarine.

A bigger travesty was his point blank refusal to even acknowledge the frog like noises emanating from the audience.

I'm a lifelong huge Beatles fan, but I hate Sgt. Pepper's, save for a few songs ["She's Leaving Home," "A Day in the Life"].

I pretty much burned myself out on all things Beatles for a while, except I still really love Anthology 3.

The Anthology book is really cool, too.

I really want the Beatles Monopoly game for Christmas.

I understand that whole concept of people that you never want to see again, I've got a few of those myself.

Recommendations: The White Album, Revolver, Abbey Road (especially side two), and Let It Be - Naked (these are the pre Phil Spector recordings and the way that all four Beatles in various interviews had said that Let It Be should have been done).

As for those who came in here specifically to run down the Beatles, why would you do that? It's just silly. It's akin to going to a NIN show just to hold up a sign telling Trent that he sucks, what's the point? eye rolling smiley

"A Hard Day's Night" has some of the best Lennon/McCartney songwriting. [Ditto for "Rubber Soul."]

I highly recommend buying the DVD of "A Hard Day's Night" -- it's still really funny.

It has GREAT stuff like:

* If I Fell
* And I Love Her
* Tell Me Why
* Can't Buy Me Love

^^^ Agreed!

A Hard Day's Night is both an amazingly funny film and a great album. I'm biased because I like the Beatles later work better than their early work but that's just me and I would NEVER say that any of their music all out sucked. lol For me to say that would just be an all out lie! smiling bouncing smiley

Whoa I am so glad to see this thread. I LOVE The Beatles! I got really obsessed when they had that "beatles anthology" thing on TV, and my dad taught me how to play guitar when I was 15. to this day all I know how to play is beatles songs. lol.

I'd have to say I love ALL the beatles music... early years is mostly pop stuff yes but in the right mood it's still pretty good. I love the middle/late beatles (along w/ the rest of the world, right?), and probably rubber soul is my favorite album, wait, not favorite... I can't pick a favorite!

I love:
-let it be
-abbey road
-white album
-revolver
-rubber soul

all of them, really. I love all the small snippet songs on abbey road. like "she came in through the bathroom window". And the silly songs on "the white album" (tho the actual album name is "the beatles", it was only nicknamed the white album because it was white. free trivia!) like rocky racoon.
Every tiem I hear "julia" I get chills.

BTW, I saw "a hard days nite". and all I have to say is, who's that little old man?
oh, he's paul's grandfather. that's it. that's all I remember of the film. Oh, and paul saying "actually we're just good friends".

peace, dudes!

Here is my take on the Beatles. I'm sure some people may disagree but here's my view on one of the greatest bands of all time:
It seems that most people prefer their mid-late stuff. I was of that mindset for many years, but now I really prefer their earlier stuff. After Rubber Soul there was a last gasp of inspiration with Revolver...and then it kind of fell apart. I feel the white album is pretty overrated and they really should have compressed it to make one decent album rather than the two discs which contained some poor songs (Don't Pass Me By, Honey Pie...shiver). All the albums after Revolver seemed to have songs that didn't seem to hang together (probably because the musical tastes of the band were going in different directions), and instead of a good album there was just a few good songs...surrounded by sugary McCartney pop. By the time it gets to Let It Be there are only 2 songs I like (I Me Mine, Across the Universe)

Some of my fav Beatles songs:
You Can't Do That (A Hard Day's Night)
You're Gonna Lose That Girl (Help!)
It Won't Be Long (With the Beatles)
I Should Have Known Better (A Hard Day's Night)
If I Fell (A Hard Day's Night)
You've Really Got A Hold On Me (With the Beatles)...yeah..I know it isn't a Lennon/McCartney song but this is still one of my fav beatles songs.

Don't Pass My By is one of the best songs on The White Album >: (
But I do agree that their earlier albums are just as good as their later work. Except Rubber Soul, which is my least favorite album of their's.

"you can't do that" is one of my favorite songs as well.
have you heard the beatles anthology version? it's one of my favorites.

I also like the early beatles as well as the middle and late.
It's sort of like us NIN fans fighting over The Fragile vs. Year Zero.
They're two different genres and have different focuses and it doesn't mean both can't be AWESOME...

sorry to mention NIN on a beatles board. I'm so going to hell for that one. But I was probably going anyway, right?

in an interview once, Ringo said they should have released the white album as two separate albums. Like the white album, then, the whiter album. something like that.
I don't like disc 2 as well, but I do like "sexy sadie". and helter skelter, that's on the second, right? yes.

I also like "her majesty" on Abbey Road. And alot of the little snippet songs on there.
short little ditty's.

I always liked George best. any other George fans out there?
