Also, the new cd's should sound completely incredible if the Love album is any indication of what they're doing with the sound.

"Let it Be Naked" sounded like it was recorded yesterday, so if that's any indication, I can't wait to hear the new remasters.

John Lennon's remastered solo albums also sound great, btw. "Walls and Bridges" is a big improvement over the original CD pressing.

This is also true. grinning smiley

The remastered reissues should be incredible!

I just got a botleg of the Decca demo the other day:

"Like Dreamers Do" (Lennon/McCartney)
"Money (That's What I Want)" (Gordy/Bradford)
"Till There Was You" (Meredith Wilson)
"The Sheik of Araby" (Smith/Wheeler/Snyder)
"To Know Her Is to Love Her" (Phil Spector)
"Take Good Care of My Baby" (King/Goffin)
"Memphis, Tennessee" (Chuck Berry)
"Sure to Fall (In Love with You)" (Cantrell/Claunch/Perkins)
"Hello Little Girl" (Lennon/McCartney)
"Three Cool Cats" (Leiber/Stoller)
"Crying, Waiting, Hoping" (Buddy Holly)
"Love of the Loved" (Lennon/McCartney)
"September in the Rain" (Warren/Dubin)
"Bésame Mucho" (Consuelo Velázquez)
"Searchin'" (Leiber/Stoller)

"Hello Little Girl," according to Anthology 1 is the first song John Lennon ever wrote.

The quality of the recording is pretty bad, but if you are a Beatles fan it's worth owning just for its historical importance. It's also kinda cool to hear what they sounded like with Pete Best on drums. His playing is stiff, but really the whole band gave an underwhelming performance.

I went and searched and came up empty handed.

Any of you Beatlemaniacs better at searching than me? If so, can you find this?

So now that MJ is dead, what does that say legal wise for the Beatles songs? Is it gonna be a free for all, go back on bid, what?

Hopefully Michael had that shit in his will that Paul gets the songs back...if not than MJ truly is a dick.

06/27/09 6:26 PM

Supposedly, He left them to Paul McCartney is his will

If that's true I'm kinda grateful Michael died. Because honestly I didn't expect Paul to outlive him being 15 years older and all.

Good to know he no longer has to pay to sing his songs.

Doesn't matter if MJ did the right thing in the end or not... he was still a total ASSHAT for what he did! Sir Paul McCartney having to pay to sing his OWN DAMNED SONGS?!?!?!?!? I can proudly say that MJ as a solo artist has NEVER gotten one red cent from me (I do own a copy of ABC - Jackson 5 and at one point I owned a copy of The Girl Is Mine though I no longer do). MJ should have done the right thing from the beginning though and not taken what didn't belong to him!

I don't know, you can't blame the guy for wanting to own Beatles songs, Neverland Ranch doesn't pay for itself
But yeah, Paul McCartney having to pay money to sing his own songs is really lame

Which leads to my next theory, Paul McCartney killed Micheal Jackson

06/28/09 7:07 PM

Twist and Shout is one of my favourites songs ever...

06/28/09 9:45 PM

Was gettin into the beatles recently and thought it was just regular pop music...

And then I heard Because (a Capella) and Sgt. Peppers...

They rock my socks.

Basically since "Rubber Soul" everything they've done is great (except the few "mistakes" of Ringo and a couple of Bubblegum McCartney songs). "Abbey Road" is definetely their most challenging and most interesting albums IMO. Although they shouldn't call it a Beatles album since half of the songs are Lennon songs and the other half are McCartney songs.

Even though all of the Beatles songs are credited as Lennon/McCartney, (except for covers and Harrison songs) weren't those either "John songs" or "Paul songs" for most of their career? Except for "A Day in the life," "Two of Us" and a few others, few of those songs seemed to be a 50/50 collaboration. "Eleanor Rigby" is a Paul song, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is a John song, "When I'm 64" is a Paul song, "Strawberry Fields Forever" is a John song, and so on and so on.

Me neither.

TPC, did you ever make it through the Anthology series in its entirety? If you watch, George Martin says that the four Beatles came to him saying that they wanted to make an album (Abbey Road) to which he told them that they could but only if they did it like they used to. He went on to say that they went into the studio and had a ball doing the songs together, playing, laughing and singing all together like they did in the old days (lol, pre Sgt. Pepper).

I get the half Paul half John idea, but it was always like that, even at the beginning. Abbey Road is no different from any other Beatle album.

Haha, I made it through the Anthology series in almost one night, and I remember exactely what you are talking about. but yeah if anything Abbey Road is more a Beatles record than the earlies ones because it features two Harrison songs and one Ringo

Wasn't the Anthology series fantastic? I loved it so much I now own it!

It is, I stole it from my Dad
It's great, but there is is still so much more that isn't even on there, or there are things that only gt talked bout briefly each episode should have been like 4 hours

07/09/09 6:58 AM

Agreed.

There is so much more info out there. You can always read the works of Philip Norman (Shout! The Beatles in Their Generation, John Lennon: The Life) and Barry Miles (Many Years From Now) plus there's always I Me Mine written by George Harrison himself. These are all amazing accounts pretty much first hand. John's and Paul's pretty much mirror each other but unfortunately, it's been years since I read I Me Mine so I can't give you much on that one. smiling smiley
