It seems the mania is back, with the release of Rockband, the albums being re-released in stereo, radio 2 doing a 3 day marathon and on the front of MOJO and Radio Times magazine and all to the band that broke up 40 years ago.
When people say that The Beatles are overrated, I don't mind, but what people have to realise is the people who never understood the mania were The Beatles themselves, when they broke up, John didn't think the band was important, with all the acrimony between the band members, the dissolution of Apple corps and Northern song being sold off to the point where Michael Jackson bought the rights in 1985.
The one thing you can't deny is the impact they have on popular culture, to me they're the most powerful band on the planet, not just because of their music, but because of their personas, they didn't have to do anything, but just stand there and girls would still go completely barmy, the headshake would make them go completely ecstatic, to me that's more powerful than Mick Jagger prancing around like a twat, it shows that the Rolling Stones had to work twice as hard just to get the same reaction that The Beatles could get by, well doing nothing.
As you can probably tell I adore The Beatles and I apologise if I'm just ranting, but I just feel this is something I should share, as most people I know that are my age, don't give The Beatles the time of day (all because they're from 60s)so I hope you don't mind.
Q: "Why does it (Beatlemania) excite them so much?"
PAUL: "We don't know. Really."
JOHN: "If we knew we'd form another group and be managers."
