THE BEATLES' ENTIRE ORIGINAL RECORDED CATALOGUE REMASTERED BY APPLE CORPS LTD. AND EMI MUSIC FOR WORLDWIDE RELEASE ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2009 (9-9-09)

7th April 2009

Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music are delighted to announce the release of the original Beatles catalogue, which has been digitally re-mastered for the first time, for worldwide CD release on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 (9-9-09), the same date as the release of the widely anticipated "The Beatles: Rock Band" video game. Each of the CDs is packaged with replicated original UK album art, including expanded booklets containing original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album. On the same date, two new Beatles boxed CD collections will also be released.

The albums have been re-mastered by a dedicated team of engineers at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London over a four year period utilising state of the art recording technology alongside vintage studio equipment, carefully maintaining the authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordings. The result of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the catalogue has seen since its original release.

The collection comprises all 12 Beatles albums in stereo, with track listings and artwork as originally released in the UK, and 'Magical Mystery Tour,' which became part of The Beatles' core catalogue when the CDs were first released in 1987. In addition, the collections 'Past Masters Vol. I and II' are now combined as one title, for a total of 14 titles over 16 discs. This will mark the first time that the first four Beatles albums will be available in stereo in their entirety on compact disc. These 14 albums, along with a DVD collection of the documentaries, will also be available for purchase together in a stereo boxed set.

Within each CD's new packaging, booklets include detailed historical notes along with informative recording notes. With the exception of the 'Past Masters' set, newly produced mini-documentaries on the making of each album, directed by Bob Smeaton, are included as QuickTime files on each album. The documentaries contain archival footage, rare photographs and never-before-heard studio chat from The Beatles, offering a unique and very personal insight into the studio atmosphere.

A second boxed set has been created with the collector in mind. 'The Beatles in Mono' gathers together, in one place, all of the Beatles recordings that were mixed for a mono release. It will contain 10 of the albums with their original mono mixes, plus two further discs of mono masters (covering similar ground to the stereo tracks on 'Past Masters'). As an added bonus, the mono "Help!" and "Rubber Soul" discs also include the original 1965 stereo mixes, which have not been previously released on CD. These albums will be packaged in mini-vinyl CD replicas of the original sleeves with all original inserts and label designs retained.

Discussions regarding the digital distribution of the catalogue will continue. There is no further information available at this time.

very exciting, finally. the only time the beatles albums were ever officially mastered for cd was in 1987, and they've always sounded like garbage. the best way to listen to the beatles since then has been the original vinyls or needledrop recordings by bootleggers like dr. ebbetts.

Holy fucking shit. Yes.

Finally I'll be able to listen to The Beatles on my headphones and not have to worry about only hearing half of the instrumentation if I take out my left or right headphone D:

Noice.

The current CD printings sounded like they were recorded inside a garbage dumpster. Can't wait.

I was just coming in to post about this, lol. Looks like I got beat to it.

It is completely AWESOME news!

LetMein! THAT IS TOTALLY SAAA-WEET! WOW!

I have been a long time fan of the Beatles, almost as long as I've been a NIN fan actually confused smiley. It's cool too see that people actually get into them here too!

We have a local radio station WMGK that has an absolute Beatles Fanatic (Andre Gardner) and every Sunday morning they do Breakfast With The Beatles and they play some really cool obscure stuff (you can stream them online BTW) He also does a "Beatles Break" at 4:15 EST every day so...we listen to him at work a lot. (There also was a reporter named Larry Kane from our area that became quite close to The Beatles)

The reason I stopped back though is that I was listening this morning and they had part of an interview with John Lennon from 2 days before he died. And he was talking about the song Woman. He said (to bastardize it) that that song was a little embarassing for him because he felt it was too Beatley...it was the 1980's version of GIRL. He also went on to say something really sweet about how it's not just for Yoko it's for all women and that he really had recently (at the time of the interview) come to realize that women are "The other half of the sky" as Mao had said (John even says it in the beginning of the song). He went on to say that he had really grown to appreciate women and how important they are to men and life. He said that life is about that union/relationship (men & women) and that without it you have nothing.

I thought that was REALLY cool. Maybe it was his age at the time IDK, but I found it poignant, given the time period it happened (him having just gotten back with Yoko) and then being murdered, plus it was the age of femanism coming into it's own 70's into 80's so... BUT anyway enough MUSH!

Just thought I'd share this and give you guys a link to some really cool tracks. and say KUDOS for starting a really cool thread! smileys with beer

@janedoepa: Thank you for that link and I just HAD to post this quote at the top of the page there -

"I declare that The Beatles are mutants. Prototypes of evolutionary agents sent by God, endowed with a mysterious power to create a new human species, a young race of laughing freemen."
Timothy Leary

That is just too good! grinning smiley

im a little confused about what 'savoy truffle' is about. but it's still awesome.

04/17/09 12:15 PM

Supposedly it's about Eric Clapton's chocolate addiction. i think he got the lyrics off box of truffles.

04/18/09 12:27 PM

it goes to show what a good songwriter harrison was, i never really bothered to read into the origins of the song and i read all kinds of sinister meanings into it about his relationship with the other beatles at the time. all these other layers to it. it's probably a top 3 white album song for me.

04/19/09 2:31 AM

I've been searching for a pic of the Good News candy box containing the Savoy Truffle for two days and can't seem to find it online anwhere sad smiley admittedly, I may just be using an improper search term with which to find it.

Anyway, if you can find that pic it's all there from the cool cherry creme to the montalle mont (sp?) and of course the savoy truffle itself. grinning smiley

I was at the ceremony of George Harrison posthumously getting his star on the Walk of Fame on Tuesday; it was great. Only downside was this fat bitch in front of me who kept yelling for Paul to sign her copy of Revolver "to make her friend jealous." If that's the only reason why you want Sir Paul McCartney to sign something of yours, then GTFO out of the fandom.

Those pics are absolutely wonderful, it must have been quite the experience! grinning smiley

What was said by the esteemed guests? I'd love to know what Sir McCartney and Mr. Idle had to say.

why the fuck would you want a remastered version of the beatles on cd? these days remastered just means compressed to fuckery by idiot producers/engineers just so they can have more fucking volume. pfft! my old versions will no doubt sound eons better than yet another fucking remaster job.

Personally, I'm looking forward to this remaster. Not all are "compressed to fuckery": look at The Downward Spiral by NIN or the DECADE albums by Dir en grey

the beatles albums have only been mastered for cd once, in 1987, and very badly

for beatles albums before abbey road, you are not hearing what they painstakingly mixed the album as originally, unless you have a vintage MONO vinyl or a bootleg recording of one--say, by bootlegger dr. ebbetts. the beatles cds we have grown up on are just a poor representation of the works

this is why the new remasters of the MONO versions are so exciting for true beatles fans. potentially they may sound better than the original vinyls and bootleg recordings of these vinyls will sound

well i hope they get old, old, guys who worked on these kind of albums in the 60's & 70's to master them, as 90% of albums released now sound like shit. i've got some original records stashed here somewhere and remember they sounded awesome, and i also have a box-set of cassette tapes i think came out in the early 80's (came with a fold-out poster too lol).

I'm sure that wherever George is he was laughing at that too. I also watched Tom Hank's speech, very moving and - oddly - invigorating.

I so wish I could have attended; I will go see the star someday though. smiling smiley

It would only make sense, seeing as they've finally digitized and remastered the entire catalogue.

Plus, apparently Sir Paul has to pay for his divorce from that stupid, gold-digging, whore somehow.
