i don't listen to grunge much but aic was the best in the genre, i think nirvana sucks they are way over rated & over played

10/01/08 6:11 AM

Agreed! I don't have much love for Nirvana but AIC are one of my all time fav's (have Dirt on right now) and just found out the other day that NIN & AIC are headlining the Soundwave festival right here where i live, i think someone's looking out for me.
I loved Layne but will welcome the new AIC with open arms :-)

10/01/08 11:16 AM

I looove AIC!!!
Miss Layne....I'm still angry at what happened to him...sad smiley
I love all their albums...always will.

Alice in Chains is one of my favorite bands, I feel like they offered me a shelter when I was at my worse.
I can't believe they're performing using the old name of the band considering Layne's death.
I feel like it's somehow disrespectful...
He was such an amazing singer/songwriter and the new singer they have is good, but certainly not as good as Layne.

TEAM OLD AIC.

This is something interesting I just read on the website of a local radio station...

It's Chris Cornell talking about a recent dream he had of Layne Staley:

I'm glad the remaining members of the band are back together and touring but I'm not sure if they really should be called Alice In Chains...

I'm interested to hear what the new music will be like.

They were definitely one of my favourite bands growing up and unfortunately I missed seeing them in 93 in melbourne at Festival Hall.

I have a hard time thinking of the band without Staley...

But I am curious to hear the new music.

Aren't we all a bit gutted that Australi gets NIN and AIC on the same bill and we can't see it?

I'm a huge fan of AIC, right from near the beginning, and i was i bit apprehensive about William joining the band,BUT i'd seen him on Jerry's solo tour in 2002, and he was awesome. I then followed AIC around Eurpoe in 06, and all the gigs were cracking. I also got to meet and talk to William, and he's a cool guy.
I know it won't be the same, but William is an ace vocalist and guitarist, and will bring his own style to help the band grow.

I saw AIC at House of Blues about 2, maybe 3, years ago. I tell you what, William may not have the same voice as Layne did, but damn, he was dead on in his performance. I was greatly impressed. Those of ya that are scared to listen to any new stuff or see 'em live, you definitely need to give them a shot.

Just got my tickets today whoohoo! I've never seen AIC so very excited :-)

Thanks Dani11, that was a neat little story.

On a side note, did you read the book that your avatar is on the cover of? I'm curious what you thought about it if you did indeed read it.

I have been obsessed with "Angry Chair" the past few weeks. Dirt is an outstanding album, and I love AiC. I hope their new stuff is worth listening to.

10/31/08 1:03 AM

Go see AiC when they tour next year. Have a couple of drinks, keep your focus on Cantrell and Inez, and you'll be pleased. Trust me.

No I haven't, is it an Alex Grey book? The only Alex Grey book i've read is "The Mission of Art", which was great. Wonderful artist.

Great band, tragic story. Too bad it has to be that way so often. My cousin was good friends with Layne, toured with them for a long time, got addicted to heroin, went to rehab, and eventually MC'd Layne's funeral. So that's my six degrees of separation.

11/27/08 5:58 PM

Forgive the megabump, but I love AiC, and see using the old name as a subtle tribute to Layne. I don't see it any differently then what AC/DC did when Bon Scott (RIP) passed on. I want them to do well and enjoy playing again. If Jerry had passed on too, then ya I could see a name change.

11/27/08 7:09 PM

they were the best with Pearl Jam in the whole "grunge" scene to me.

Jerry and Layne's chemistry made that band.
on a side note, Jerry's solo albums are must haves too along with Mad Season's album.

11/27/08 9:13 PM

I know everyone loves dirt and facelift but i'd say my favourite would have to be Jar of flies!

11/27/08 9:21 PM

i think "Tripod" is their best.
just something aboot the way Layne sang on that record...

11/27/08 9:30 PM

Tripod? I'm lost yawning smiley

oooh i never knew that, yeah i love that album especially the last track!

That broke my heart. Thanks for sharing though. Everything about Layne's demise is just so maddening.

AIC was my favorite band that came out of Seattle and I tried, unsucessfully, to see them many times. Thet sold out a small club every time I tried to see them while living in Hollywood in 1991. Then I was meant to see them with Metallica, Suicidal Tendencies and Rob Halford in Fight (at the time). AIC had to cancel their commitment to the tour due to Layne's issues.

I know, I always feel sad when I think about what happened to Layne, and what happens to too many musicians before their time...

I would have loved to have seen AIC live, that would have been a dream come true. The closest I came to it was seeing Jerry Cantrell at a festival years ago, he sang some AIC songs which was amazing and a nice tribute to Layne....

Anyone else think the band should change it's name without Staley? They're working on a new album.

I don't think they should change the name...Cantrell is a great vocalist on his own, he can handle the band. However, I do say, dump the new lead singer guy, whatever his name is and just do it with Cantrell, Mike and Sean.

I think it's Duvall???? Yeah, lose that guy.

12/04/08 11:31 AM

I'd like to be at the Soundwave festival. NIN and AIC on the same bill would be fantastic.

Unfortunately I've moved to London from Melbourne....

I'll definitely be at any new gigs AIC and NIN do around Europe...

I love that album too! "River of Deceit" kills me, that song is just amazing....

Wake up. The best.

I'm scared to listen to the new singer of AIC...it doesn't feel right. I feel as if I have been cheating on Layne. And I definitely did not prefer Cantrell's solo work. It just wasn't the same (I'm not saying he's not awesome and very talented, it just wasn't the same).
