This coming from someone with a, what is that a pikachu avatar?

I used to really, really, hate green day just because they were pop punk which I thought was the stupidest thing, I mean isn't that just an insult to punk music? but honestly, they are kinda catchy and I find myself sometimes humming their tunes. So even though I hate them, I have to admit they do have a few songs I don't mind listening to. But you people who listen to green day 24/7 need to just listen to some serious music and stop crying about their parents.

What I don't like the most is the older fans who are now like 30-40 still listening to green day and giving the younger generation fans shit for not being as big a loser as they are.

Grow up and drink a beer and realize your life sucks because a green day concert is the one thing that got you out of the house since that party you escaped your home for when your parents were sleeping back when you were 15.

Oh and when amican idiot came out, I think that is really why I hate them... I mean all the songs from that album were just annoying.

they don't live in america, so shut the fuck up you dont have to worry about being an american idiot because your not american... So quit patronizing all the teenagers who bought that album because they are american idiots and they ate it up.

Thats like me starting a band and singing "I dunno wanna be a canadian doushebag"

shut up fat person hater

lol... the funny thing about saying shutup online is that it never works.

And like I said, I don't necessarily hate green day, just the fans, and you guys never fail to remind me why.

I'll let you get back to your teenage angst... at 25.

Relive it boy, you're still young!!! Party like it's early nineties!

I never really got into Green Day. Whether that's a good thing or not, I don't know. I did like a lot of the songs on American Idiot though and I almost considered buying it but never did. Is it too late?

you're talking about angst on nin.com? come on...

06/09/09 10:36 PM

no one understands me. NO ONE. I would just DIE if I never had The Downward Spiral.

So what is that like the third time thats been said on this thread?

I dunno they are different levels of emotion, some angst can be listened to until your 80, others obviously enough were meant to stop by the time your dad can no longer punish you for being out late.

Maybe its because all my angst is worked up against forced religion, and other angst is worked up against being grounded...one of them you tend to grow out of faster than the other.

Or come to think of it I may now be thinking of blink 182...

Yeah I'm almost positive now I was thinking of blink 182...

Either way, trent's boyish angst ending on "I guess I'm not the only boy for you."

Funny though, just now reading lyrics off of green days american idiot their lyrics seem a lot better than what their singing has lead me to believe.

Either way as good as the lyrics are something makes a tiny blood bubble burst in my head everytime i hear it...

Fuck Green Day.

I loved them in jr. high and still listen to Dookie once in a blue moon, but this new album and American Idiot were god-awful. I really want some of the crack that the writers at Rolling Stone are smoking because they and everyone else in the entertainment world seem to think it's the greatest thing to ever happen to music. They have got to be deaf...Play "Jaded" and "Know Your Enemy" back to back. It's fucking pathetic.

I long for the days of careless pop punk songs about being fucking baked and doing nothing...and the days when Billie Joe Armstrong didn't wear eyeliner. eeeww

Then you should settle for Unwritten Law's Up All Night. It's not very punk, but still sounds good. I'm pretty sure you could apply it to getting "fucking baked and doing nothing".

06/14/09 2:08 AM

eh whatever. green day is good and they'll prolly play lots of their classics when Ima see them live. Haven't heard their new album...

This.

Now reading back I don't seem to understand the whole angst thing, it seems like you're talking about acting childish. I don't think green day is that childish.. blink 182 is really childish. what's my age again? Maybe you spend more time hating bands like blink 182 and simple plan than wasting your time on the green day thread..

The concert was pretty incredible, they had fireworks and lights and confetti. Some guy came up and played all of jesus of suburbia and some other dude sang longview, he wasn't very good but that must have been insane for him. I wish I was closer. They all put on hats, scarves and crap for king for a day and the lights went rainbow ;D

you're jealous.

07/11/09 2:49 AM

Last weekend I took my niece to see green day. It was her first concert, she had a pretty good time. Got her a shirt and everything. It was really fucking awesome to see them live, I was impressed, it was an amazing performance

07/11/09 3:32 PM

i saw them the other night for the first time, wasn't that excited to go but the show was really good, i was very impressed with the show, a new found respect indeed

07/13/09 3:26 PM

They seem to be running out of ideas. The new song 21 Guns sounds like a rehash of Boulevard of Broken Dreams. The new album is pretty much American Idiot Part 2.

I agree with you and I don't agree with you. Sure the albums sound the same because they were made one after the other and then also because they are both "rock operas", more so 21st Century Breakdown though. I love both albums though, sure they aren't exactly the punk pop they were back in the 90s and even early 2000s but I think they still make damn good music.
This is probably a bad example but bands mature and change their sound it happens all the time. It happened to Metallica and people got outrage, but when I hear music I don't think about the genre they are in or whatever. If the album is a good album its a good album.
I love Dookie as much as I love 21st Century Breakdown.

And I am really glad the few people who have been to the shows are impressed with them. I am seeing them on July 21st and I amn very very excited for them. It will be my second time seeing them. They were my first concert during the American Idiot tour.
And for those of you that went, how is the merch? I wanna get a really fucking awesome t shirt. I enjoy the one that was posted above.. might get that one.

07/13/09 8:30 PM

This band I went from loving to hating to nowdays feeling indifferent towards. I did happen to love Dookie like crazy at one point in my life and it still has a small place in my heart to this day. It was proof that even three chord songs could still have at least a somewhat distinct sound, which GD were lucky enough to achieve at the time.

I haven't bothered to pick up their latest release, but from what I've heard from it, I have no interest in it whatsoever.

07/15/09 11:48 PM

At the concert they had tons of merch. I posted the tshirt I got but it was really difficult to choose, one even said "July 4th 2009 vancouver, BC" and no other tour dates, they made it only for that show. I don't know if they're doing that for every stop, probably. They had arm bands and stickers but I didn't have time to look at those.. I liked the colour coordination on the shirts, alot of them were green day as cartoons and other typical graphic styles. very nice.

Ha so one more question >_<
About how much was the shirt? When I saw them during the American Idiot tour the shirt was around 25-30 dollars so that wasn't too bad, is it still the same?

And I do like that shirt a lot, I might get it...

07/16/09 4:55 PM

Doesn't that depend on the venue? I paid (ouch) 40 $ for that shirt

Wow that is a lot! I guess I'll being extra money.
And I have no idea, I always thought it was the band that sets the price.

07/16/09 5:26 PM

If that's true than green day should be charging less, they have enough money.

though all those lights and fireworks sound expensive..

07/18/09 8:15 PM

Saw them last night. Brought back lots of memories. Not really a fan anymore, but my interest has kind of risen again. Highlight of my night was 2000 Light Years Away. Love it.

About the shirts, they had one that had just Ottawa on the back, so I'd imagine they do it for every show. Also, shirts in the States should be $35, and $40 in Canada as far as I know. Not 100% sure on that, though.

07/22/09 11:47 AM

Gotta say the concert I was at last night, probably the best concert I have ever been too. Green Day is the perfect combination of silly and music. This was the second time I saw them and they continue to keep me enthralled in their concerts. I hope there is another North American leg of this tour, I would enjoy seeing them again. Their music was spot on, crowd interaction was kick ass, the lights and visuals were awesome. It was just so perfect for me.
And yeah shirts are 35$ I'm kinda annoyed though.. there was one girls shirt that was so kick ass, it was red, damn being a guy lol.
I ended up getting the shirt that says Green Day has their faces and on the back it says Philadelphia July 21st 2009

07/25/09 12:51 PM

I love their new album. Know Your Enemy is such a great song. I'd like to see them if they were touring here, but they're not. I'm not in a position to buy a plane ticket to go to that concert.

07/29/09 8:25 AM

I miss the Green Day I grew up with in the 90's. I mean I haven't really hated anything they've done yet, but nothing off of 21st Century Breakdown has impressed me enough to go buy it. Know Your Enemy was okay the first couple of times I heard it, then it started sounding like American Idiot Part 2.

07/29/09 8:45 AM

dcj have you heard Restless Heart Syndrome? Or either of the two Viva La Gloria's? Those songs are great pieces of music, it doesn't sound like 90's Green Day but who cares. In my opinion it shouldn't matter if a band sounds like how they once did, as long as they continue to write music that sounds great I'll listen.

I said this before in this thread, but I love when a band matures and changes their sound. I love Dookie, but I honestly don't think I would still listen to them if they played music like that anymore. It would just get repeative and really boring after a few albums. They can still rock those old songs like no other when playing live, but its great to hear the variety in there.

I agree with you 100% on that. That's kinda what 21st Century Breakdown is doing for me, I think the stuff that's off of it sounds REALLY close to American Idiot. I liked American Idiot, it wasn't that bad of an album, but I've already heard American Idiot. I don't hate the new songs, and if other people like it, that's great, it's just not for me.

08/05/09 12:48 PM

i think american idiot was a great album..

green day did something..that manson should have done.
they matured..musically.

instead of making the same old album over again..after their career had peaked years ago..
they did a rock opera?

that was genius ...i salute them for it..

their last album was good too...but i feel like they were just redoing what they had already done with american idiot..
but c'mon ..you can only come up with so many great ideas.

08/07/09 7:19 AM

I have a couple of their albums. I love 21st Century Breakdown. It's like the soundtrack to my life right now. I never get tired of listening to Green day. I just wish I'd been able to go to their concert. They can do no wrong. IMO

09/15/09 11:52 PM

I saw them back in July... I did feel 13 again but nothing will top the dookie/insomniac era for me.
