Charlotte .. sweet!! Add them to my best concert year eva!!

I'll see you there at Tremont! Still kind of shocked Tremont was picked as one of the primary dates instead of a secondary but I'm not complaining.

which SP album would be a good start for someone new to their material?

It really depends what you're into. Mythmaker and The Greater Wrong of the Right are regarded as more accessible, but I think I'd suggest Too Dark Park and Remission, maybe. Remission is my favorite.

@josh_nin > The Singles Collect and B-Sides Collect is a good place to start if you just looking for a direction to begin to follow with Skinny Puppy. Otherwise see my earlier post about SP in regards to your own preferred taste in music.

Synthetic, are you talking about "Back & Forth Vols. 1, 2, 3, etc. etc. etc."?

"Brap- 'Back & Forth Vol. 3'" is my fave. Volume 2 was okay, but it didn't have all of the cool enhanced CD imagery.

"K9" is still one of my fave SP songs. I believe it's waaay too short.

No The Singles Collect and B-Sides Collect came out some time in 99, maybe even 2000 and basically had all their singles (with b-side remixes) redone in better quality. Considering after 2000 is when their new albums started dropping I figured for a new fan it'd be a cheap way to get a taste of all their albums and then choosing which ones to pursue further.

The Brap volumes are quite possibly some of the best Puppy material ever! 3/4 had some real gems on it as well as 2 but I think vol. 6 has been the best so far. Vol. 1 and 7 are pretty good but not necessarily jaw dropping. Vol. 5 though, well, it's good as far as live album goes but I don't it deserves a place in the Back/Forth catalogue (kind of funny how Cevin said the same thing last time I get to meet him).

hey all - looking at hitting charlotte (saw them halloween 04 same venue), but I can't seem to find any info about tickets. on the SP site tremont is listed for nov 20, but the ticket presale doesn't list the date, nor does ticketmaster.

what's up with that?

This is typically Tremont treatment. Same thing happened when Mindless Self Indulgence was scheduled to play; it was a while before tickets were on sale. My guess is it's either the promoter being a lazy bastard or the venue trying to be both promoter and host. Basically the go to promoter for Tremont hates using Ticketmaster so they try to find suitable alternatives and my guess is they're coming up short right now.

^^ Actually the Singles Collect you have is probably the one I'm talking about.

Remastered was probably the wrong word to use. However technically when the Singles/B-Sides Collect was released it was given a slight upgrade in quality since I believe at that time the masters had been ripped so many times the quality was kind of low.

I agree completely with your take on the Brap tracks! The vol. 5 release, like I said, is great as far as a live album goes but I think it just doesn't fall in with the rest of Brap volumes. But it was the best option for the band at the time since the Doomsday promoters were close to putting out their own live Skinny Puppy album of that show and that version was seriously going to be shit in terms of quality.

Ain't It Dead Yet was great for the time period it was recorded but compared to now it does lack 'oomph' as you put it. But still the video is worth it just to see Ogre's dancing to Smothered Hope (no white man's disease there). I haven't seen a video of Doomsday so I can't comment on that one but the live DVD of Greater Wrong of the Right is fantastic. It's definitely one of the better live video recordings I've ever seen and if you were at any of the shows, does a good job of taking you back to the experience vicarously; at least in my opinion. I'm still hoping one day Cevin and Morrison will find their footage for the Vivisect - Too Dark Park tours and release it.

Yea the VIVISect VI tour was probably the bloodiest tour in terms of effects and I think it was the tour where Ogre first used his walking stilts that Manson later ripped off in his tours.

I do believe there are some live footage bootlegs of these tours floating around but from what I've gathered in other forums and such the quality is complete poo. I know D.R. Goettel shot a lot of footage for these tours and some of it was included on the Greater Wrong of the Right DVD but it was more behind the scenes stuff than footage of the band performing.

But I'm like you; a professional release of these tours with the new DVD treatments available and I'd totally drop some big bucks for it.

no vancouver show?

The Charlotte, NC tickets are now on sale in case the people that were asking in this thread haven't been following. The venue website (www.tremontmusichall.com) has a link for them.

Detroit on Nov.11th. grinning smiley I may be in the minority here but Too Dark Park is one of my least favorites. Anytime I listen to it I can't help but think,"Wow, now that is a smack album if I ever heard one."tongue sticking out smiley

08/31/09 4:15 PM

^^ I had to laugh at this since I'm pretty sure Ogre mentioned once in some obscure interview how he was basically smacked out of his head the entire time while making Too Dark Park. Not one of my favorites either but definitely not my least favorite; that would have to go to Last Rights.

I love SP. My favorite cd is VIVIsectVI..Too dark park, last rites & rabies are all classic & essential to any collection.. Back and forth & the Brap stuff are really good too.....I have and old VHS called Too dark park the video collection but I think it's labeled wrong I think it's the official video collection 84-92 or a bootleg. Its all beat to shit with a missing label & barely playable but I love it......The video for Worlock is amazing, a must see for any gorehound. It has clips from: Altered States, Bad Taste, The Beyond, Combat Shock, Dead And Buried, Death Warmed Up, Deep Red, Demons, Eraserhead, From Beyond, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, Intruder, Luther The Geek, Maniac 2, Opera, Parents, Phenomena, Re-Animator, Suspiria, Tenebrae and Videodrome [Audio Intro].

Thanks for the recommendation of the "Greater Wrong of the Right" DVD. grinning smiley

Problem with this dvd is that it has the worst picture quality i have ever seen on a professional dvd release, they compressed a 100 minute show on a single layered dvd (it took up less than 4 GB )

Anyone care to cater to a ongoing argument? [www.myspace.com]
would you say this sounds more like skold or manson? or neither?

09/06/09 1:03 PM

first of all, manson has no original style in music, Brian just made sure the music he had written for his band was of a popular style
secondly, about the myspace link; it sounds just like every other horrible unoriginal goth industrial homemade project

thirdly this has nothing to do with skinny puppy

Ok dood, I take it constuctive and well thought out critisism isn't your best attribute? Also I never said manson was original, obvioulsy would be nothing without Reznor, I think anyone who knows anything can agree to that, about the originality of the link I personally like to think it sounds a bit better than most other horrible unoriginal goth industrial homemade projects but than again i am a biased party...
As for having somthing to do with Skinny Puppy seeing how SKOLD was involved with Ogre during the Welt tour it is moderatly related & seemed the best forum to get educated opinons of the matter

The question has been a ponderment of freinds and I like to think the vocalist sounds like neither, but I guess people relate shit to what they know, and retaliate against what the dont, BTW i like how you call Marilyn Manson Brian like you grew up with him or somthing must be a scene symptom, or maybe if you do it enough reznor will ask you to hang out so you guys can talk about "Brian" or maybe just maybe you know him and share creps and flan every morning for breaksfast while watching the sun rise over the hollywood sign in cali? dick....

ok then, the lyrics are obvious pseudo gothic nonsncence, Brian stole stuff from the bible you can try talmud, the clean vocals are horrible try more screams and distortion like in broken sky, some sampled guitars showed promise but overall your songs are way too slow to be so distorted and noisy, what would make it sound more like skold would be analogue beats
