i don't know why everyone brings up this "dilemma" between the honest poor musicians and a rich greedy fat cigar smoking producer, the music industry is far larger than that and the people who work in it and whose jobs depend on it are far more
i think it's simply all about the ease of copying and distributing an album or a movie rather than the actual difference between that and stealing any other product, since in both cases the act is equally destructive for the marketing process, you may not physically steal it but by putting something on the net you force its marketing value to be reduced to zero, production distribution promotion retail; they are all affected, it is like some form of selective socialism allova sudden
long story short; i don't like the law
That production, distribution, promotion and retail you mention are based on a wrong system in which the only one getting the money is the music label. I'm sorry for the people that's working on it driving long trucks full of cd's to the retail stores where poor people is working to sell those cd's, etc... But the root of all that business is wrong. It's bad. And it's greedy and evil. I don't have a thing against people working to earn 900€/month. The most probably thing is that they didn't had 4 jobs to choose. They just do what they can do. But it's the core of that industry the thing that's rotten
Just think, for example, about the people working for the tobacco corporations. They will be affected for the loss of their jobs if laws against tobacco are applied, but you just have to apply those laws fpr the safety of a lot of people
The music industry has been taking our money for so long. CD's are insanely expensive and... what do you find when listening to the other songs that weren't released as a single? You find that most of them are shitty fillers and, hey, they've managed to fabricate a determined sound to make you buy what you want to buy. Actually, you can make a CD and sell it for 6€. Some people is doing that! And people still earning money and the business is still working. The only difference is that music labels CEO's and chairmen doesn't live in mansions
BTW, I assume you are against online shops from which you can download songs because

Anyway, I suppose it's a cultural thing. I don't know where are you from, but I think our views on this diverge because we haven't been raised with the same ethical values
