Floyd and nin are basically all I listen to.

Album: Animals
Song: Hey You

Roger Waters heavily influenced me to play the bass.

"Bike" cracks me up every time grinning smiley

Chowderhawk, I want your mug! grinning smiley

I absolutely love the Wall. And of course Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here.

Pink Floyd is freaking awesome. NIN and PF are my favorite bands, no question about it. I can't really decide on a favorite album, although the candidates would be Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall. I don't really know too much of their older stuff, apart from what's on the Live at Pompeii dvd.
Some favorite songs: Brain Damage, Run Like Hell, Welcome To The Machine, Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, Have A Cigar.

I'm particularly fond of the Meddle through Animals time frame (I like bits and pieces of The Wall, but I really have to be in the mood for it). I do like Gilmour's solo stuff (what? what?!), but I've never tried any of Waters's solo work (odd, that...although it is on my To-Do list).

Best song? What, no love for "Seamus"?

Ow, stop hitting!

09/03/08 7:59 PM

My favorite Pink Floyd song is "Fearless", but I'd have to say my favorite album is Animals.

09/03/08 10:47 PM

Pink Floyd is ok, but King Crimson is where it's at!

09/04/08 3:05 AM

Comfortably Numb - final guitar solo.
My favourite piece of music ever. Or damn near close to.
Welcome to the Machine has also always been a favourite, since I was about 10.

favourite floyd album is the wall, followed by wish you were here, animals, dsotm and the final cut. not to keen on the stuff further back than dark side, other than the odd track and i really don't like syd era floyd. i was lucky enough to see them live, although not with roger in the band. very spectacular.

It seems that there is isn't much love for Dave Gilmour here - am I the only one who prefers the Gilmour stuff to Waters?
The only songs I really like on the Wall are those co-written by Gilmour (Young Lust, Comfortably Numb). All the Floyd songs I seem to love most are by Gilmour (e.g., Learning to Fly, What Do You Want From Me) and I really dislike The Final Cut. This album represents for me what I dislike about Waters. Whenever Gilmour is involved the feel is smooth, and his voice and guitar are like butter...and that I what I always loved about Pink Floyd, the flowing quality of the music. Gilmour's solo stuff is also good, although I must say I wasn't a fan of About Face (1984), but the self titled 1978 album and On An Island are both great.

Don't get me wrong...there are some great Waters songs (e.g., Have a Cigar smoking smiley, Hey You). I just wanted to share my views because they seem so sharply in contrast to everyone else's, which I found interesting.

Gilmour is my favourite guitarist. Nobody can do a solo like that man.

The Wall, Animals and Dark Side of the Moon are all masterpieces.

Nope. I likes my Gilmour, I do I do.

gilmour manages to get more emotion in one note than many guitarists manage in an entire career. comfortably numb is just about my favourite solo ever. sends shivers down the spine.

09/04/08 4:04 PM

Gilmour is also my favourite guitarist. I love him as a musician and singer but not as a songwriter.

09/09/08 2:31 PM

for me the best era is dark side, animals and wish you were here...

Pink Floyd is one my all time favorites. I own every single album and my favorites would be..........

1. The Wall (this is the best selling album of all time, or is it thriller? but with good reason)

2. A Momentary Lapse of Reason (I really prefer Gilmour to Waters, he is a better singer and musician, and it really shows here)

3. The Division Bell (Again, really love the Gilmour era. This is a good mix of the the many styles of Floyd. High Hopes is my all time favorite Floyd Track)

4. The Piper At the Gates of Dawn (Yes, Dark Side is overrated. Many are unaware that there was 7 albums before it..or maybe 8 if you count the early singles/relics...you have to give it to Syd Barret for his awesome poetry and style. This album started the band and probably laid down the blue print for most progressive bands to come.)

5. Ummagumma (Yep, the Musique Contrete style is awesome here. Another blue print for sampling and electronic music. Maybe influenced by Walter Carlos? Maybe Brian Eno was influenced by this?)

Pink Floyd has to be one of the very first rock acts I was ever into--The Wall was the very first album I ever got from any band, and I was only 9 years old when I got it (talk about hardcore). My current PF collection is fairly modest, but I do have in it no less than 4 copies of Dark Side (original Capitol CD, Mobile Fidelity Ultradisc I 24k gold disc, 20th anniversary box and the 30th anniversary SACD with surround sound), the Mobile Fidelity Ultradisc version of The Wall, the Mastersound gold disc of Wish You Were Here, a Shine On promo sampler, and several other albums. For David Gilmour I have all three solo albums (including two copies of On an Island, one with the DVD and the other from Best Buy with an exclusive CD) and am planning on getting the 4-disc Live in Gdansk package. I also have the first three of Roger Waters' solo efforts, including a Mastersound gold disc of Amused to Death.

(You may have noticed I have a lot of gold CDs. The guys in Floyd deserve no less than top quality.)

As for coffee mugs, I have one for The Division Bell.

Love the Floyd! My favorite album is probably The Wall. I watch the movie every year while I decorate my Christmas tree. (Because something about war, mental illness, sex, drugs & rock'n'roll screams Christmas!?!) I love all the other usual suspects too (Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Meddle etc.). The early Syd Barrett stuff is like a different band, but I enjoy it now & then.

I saw the Floyd minus Roger Waters on the Division Bell tour and a couple years back I saw Roger Waters minus the Floyd on his solo tour. Both shows were amazing! Roger Waters was the brain but David Gilmour has the voice (and when he was young the pretty face). I remember when Waters & Gilmour reunited for the Live 8 concert in Hyde Park. I watched on TV and when they dedicated "Wish You Were Here" to Syd Barrett I cried like a baby! It was just too much to take.

Meddle > Saucerful of Secrets > Atom Heart Mother > Animals > The Wall > Wish You Were Here > Dark Side of the Moon

Those are the albums that I've listened to enough to rate like this tongue sticking out smiley.
Definitely like some of the older stuff, the epics, long instrumentals, all good stuff that makes you love music smiling smiley

Pretty face...yes, somebody had to say it. grinning smiley

I didn't really get into Pink Floyd until my first major depression hit me (odd, that)...but once I got that first taste, I gobbled up as much of the music as I could.

I'm a bit sad to say my Mom doesn't know who Pink Floyd are.

I set up the lighting and inflated the Pig for Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon Tour last year, here's some photos I took, for any Roger fans here:

My Favorite band of all time (see profile). I've listened to them since I was around 6 or so and I've never heard a band quite like them. Of course nin comes in second place but no one can replace your favorite band of all time. winking smiley
