Anyone here like them?

I just saw them in Austin for Psych Fest 2 a few days ago. They were pretty good live.

03/18/09 1:12 PM

Ahh Yes, another psych rock band that I just adore....I won't mention my other favorite here...

I've never seen these guys live, but I would like to if I can find the chance.

You are my new best friend.winking smiley Just kidding but I'm glad you started this thread. I love this band.smiling smiley

03/18/09 4:40 PM

I have both albums. They're excellent. Never seen them live, I'd love to!

03/19/09 7:24 AM

Okay, I remember checking these guys out a few years ago and not being to keen on them. A bit too bland alt rock. But, I saw this thread and figured I'd see what they're up to now, and I'm really digging their new album. A lot more psychedelic.

03/24/09 9:39 AM

Yeah their older albums are a bit harder to get into. I'm still having a hard time enjoying their older albums. "Directions To See a Ghost" is a really good album.

03/24/09 11:08 AM

I saw them with Foo Fighters..or was it QOTSA.

Didn't like em

08/30/10 10:51 PM

*bumps*

Just thought I would bump this thread since these guys have a new album "Phosphene Dream" coming out soon. I'm really looking forward to their album release show here in two weeks....I've seen them live plenty of times but they never get old live...such a nice group of guys.

08/30/10 11:11 PM

I fucking love them!!

A friend of mine told me to listen to "Directions To See A Ghost" and as soon as "Science Killer" came on, I was completely in love with them. I really hope they tour Australia some time. Can't wait for their new album too.

You can download a free track from it at their website smiling smiley

I think I may actually buy the $59.00 deluxe thing they have on their site. It has a lot of neat stuff that come with the cd.

If you like The Black Angels you should defintely check out the few other projects the guys have. Christian has a sideproject called Christian Bland & the Revelators thats worth checking out. Christian and Alex have another project called The Viet Minh thats worth checking out too.

Those are wicked! Thanks for the heads up smiling smiley

09/02/10 1:34 AM

Someone has posted up their performace in France on youtube! grinning smiley

Here's Science Killer and then the rest are in "related videos"

YEW!

09/02/10 10:10 AM

Been listening to these guys more lately, along with the wooden shjips & The Duke Spirit.

09/02/10 10:46 AM

idle - Woodenshjips are an awesome band. They are supposed to be playing some Halloween Psychedelic Party thing here in Austin soon. I can't wait to finally see them. then.

Wowk - Science Killer is such a great song. I really love the bass on that song. Lately I've had their songs "Call to Arms" and "Better Off Alone" on repeat.

09/02/10 12:28 PM

ya know, these guys collaborated on the new UNKLE album. sounded good. didnt sound like UNKLE or The Black Angels either.

09/02/10 12:46 PM

Yeah I heard that collaboration awhile back. UNKLE definitely has a lot of interesting guest artists on that the new album. One of my friends teased Alex for The Black Angels and UNKLE being on the new Twilight soundtrack the last time we saw those guys play here. I really don't care though if they are on the soundtrack or not...the movies suck but the soundtracks are actually pretty good.

That's a great collaboration. Great album too. Though I've always had a soft spot for UNKLE so they can't really do any wrong in my opinion.

The bass on "Science Killer" just gives me shivers every single time it starts. "Call To Arms" is awesome! "Snake In The Grass" and "The First Vietnam War" get a lot of play as well

09/14/10 1:57 PM

^ UNKLE has always been one of those bands I've enjoyed as well. So to hear songs that them and the Black Angels have collaborated on is pretty cool.

The new Black Angels album is out today. I'll be going to their record release party/concert tonight...should be a lotta fun.

09/15/10 3:06 PM

^heard one of their new songs on the radio of all places. It was pretty good.

09/16/10 3:54 PM

Yeah "Telephone" has been getting a lot of airplay lately here. I was completely surprised by how packed their show here the other day got and the guys were pretty surprised as well. They just kept telling me how happy and surprised they were with the show after driving for 24 hours straight to get there. The songs I'm really digging off their new album are "Bad Vibrations" and "Entrance Song".

09/16/10 4:07 PM

The new video for telephone is a little on the weird side. Love the song smiling smiley

09/22/10 10:42 PM

Finally got my hands on the new album. Absolutely love it! Not as dark or intensely psychadelic as "Directions To See A Ghost" but it's still very obviously Black Angels. My favourites are "Bad Vibrations" and "Yellow Elevator"

YEW!

09/28/10 7:20 AM

I'm so excited these guys are touring with Black Mountain through here. I've seen Black Mountain twice, but have been dying to see Black Angels forever now. It's really a surprise since AZ wasn't listed on the initial tour dates, but I'm glad to see that we'll get a taste of this powerful duo of Neo-Psychedelia!
The new album sort of reminds me more of the Psychedelic Pop sound of like 1965/66. I can dig it and I'm sure it will present itself very well livesmiling smiley

09/28/10 7:42 PM

^ Awesome! Yeah they are great live so I'm glad that your finally getting the chance to see them live. smiling smiley

Thats actually what I love about the new album is that its definitely got more a psych pop feel to it. Yeah "Telephone" and "Bad Vibrations" are really fun live songs....those songs always seem to get everyone dancing whenever I see The Black Angels live.

10/04/10 5:20 PM

I bought the CD a while back and thought it was awesome.

My review:
[stuffandsuch.wordpress.com]

Seeing them in November with Black Mountain (whose new CD has grown on me). Can't wait.

10/07/10 5:21 PM

^ Nice review jd. smiling smiley There are indeed quite a bit of good bands with the word "black" in the band's name. I'm quite excited to see The Black Angels & Black Mountain as well in November. I've seen The Black Angels many times but I have yet to see Black Mountain...so I'm pretty excited.

I just got Christian Bland & the Revelators "The Lost Album" vinyl which came with a download code of mp3's. For those of you Black Angels fans you guys should definitely check it out. I'm really enjoying the majority of the songs on the album so far.

10/11/10 6:57 PM

just saw the angels live in dublin...spectacular. they're well worth getting into and i actually find their earlier stuff (empire, on their first album, is, in my opinion, their best song, and the song they closed with tonight) to be just as awesome as their latest. as for the lost album, id be really interested in hearing it but im obviously not in the US and have no way of even playing vinyl...anyone have any ideas? will it be released on cd?

10/11/10 11:29 PM

I asked Christian the last time I saw The Black Angels play a gig here about if there would be more copies available on cd. He just told me that there were only 5 copies left on cd but that those aren't for sale (I'm guessing there probably won't be any more copies of it released on cd..at least not anytime soon)...he then directed me to the PsychFest site on where the vinyl was (it comes with an mp3 download code and the vinyl comes with a lithograph autographed and numbered by Christian).

I know I have two cds with a bunch of random demos that Christian gave to me awhile back. Its not The Lost Album...I think its Pigboat Blues and Parable Blues. I think its been posted before on the forums on The Black Angels site but if the link is expired then feel free to pm and if I can find those cds then maybe I can hook ya up with some mp3s of those demos.

*with Suuns
#with Sleepy Sun

--I've been obsessing about Sleepy Sun for the past couple of years, just a great Psychedelic band from San Fran that puts on a great show and I just saw Suuns as well, they are from Montreal and have a nice mix of Psychedelic/Electronic Shoe-gaze. This tour looks just as great as the most recent Black Angels/Black Mountain....I can't wait to see the AZ show, cause I've seen Sleepy Sun 3times here and they really are a perfect fit for the Desert Atmosphere. So if these guys are roaming through your area, GO SEE THEM!!!!

04/26/11 2:26 PM

I'll be seeing them on the 11th. Quite excited about it!
