I think Tool is a highly overrated band. Some of their songs are cool but, in my humble opinion, they do always the same. Lateralus is an album that is considered epic and a work of art but I just don't get it. All songs sound the same to me. Maybe is my fault smiling smiley

Travis Barker. He's actually ranked among the top 10 greatest drummers, ahead of Danny Carey or in front of Josh Freese.

He still is an excellent drummer. It's just a shame that he's in a band like Blink 182 with his skills. He played a whole tour with only one arm and did it perfectly. I don't know much abotu other drummers but he is a really good one. Just listen to The Fallen Interlude or the end of I'm lost Without You of Blink 182, and you'll hear his skills.

Never "got" TOOL. Funny, I guess a lot of NIN fans like TOOL, but I just find their music to be really, really boring.

Imho, only Undertow and Aenima are worth owning. The rest is...fine, but I don't know....

It's like Tool has decided to become the next Pink Floyd, which is kind of a turn off for me.

The Bauhaus

Sorry, I can't stand them, and last night's show was a reminder of why I can't stand Peter Murphy.

08/26/09 4:18 PM

^ really? D: have you heard crowds?

08/26/09 6:46 PM

This page is fail imo.

Editing again: I mean you don't have to like these bands. But it's not as if they're hugely overrated.

Tool and Bauhaus are just bands that some NIN fans frivolously masturbate over. So I guess they're just overrated in such circles.

em guys why is radiohead mentioned.radiohead arent over rated they have earned their success and fans.the bends,ok computer and in rainbows are all superb albums and every music critic has mentioned that.kid A was a great album in itself and also proved radiohead could make a great album, reinvent themselves and still sound like radiohead and still remain popular.not many bands can or have done that while keeping their popularity.ill admit some of their music is sketchy but radiohead are very unique and thats why people like them.despite some of the morbidness of their music they seem to have a knack for creating songs that you might not like at first listen but eventually will grow on you and will last longer.nearly every album (apart from kidA and amnesiac) is different from the last they never do the same thing twice or three times.listening to one of their songs especially theyre famous ones you might think that they are a bit over rated but when you listen to one of their albums and get lost in its surreal soundscapes and great songs that grow on you and take you by surprise you realise there is more to the music than meets the ear.saying they are over rated is just another way of saying you dont like them that much that you think they are ok but not as great as everyone says they are.thats fine your entitled to your opinion but the reason why ppl say they are great is because those people think they are great and for these reasons.people have different tastes.you might love pearl jam or nirvana and think they are great but someone else might only think they are ok.there is no such thing as an over rated band.bands have their qualities and their faults.so this forum is pointless.and this isnt just about radiohead its about every band or musician.

The only memorable thing Kurt Cobain ever did was shoot himself in the head. Pearl Jam is still out there rocking and filling up stadiums. Eddie Vedder was and always will be a better man than Kurt Cobain.
Kurt Cobain was someone who a lot of people identified with. The fact that you don't see what was so "special" about him, just says you don't. Don't bother listening to interviews and shit, they won't tell you anything.
And please, SLTS was one of their worst songs and from their worst album. Listen to something like Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle/ Radio Friendly Unit Shifter/ Negative Creep (Fan favourite), then you may come back and tell us how much you hate them.
I'm sick of people judging Nirvana by STLS, CAYA and Aneurysm.
Being the better "man" was something that was something Cobain's anti-thesis would do.
Their audience wasn't the one they were looking for in the first place. They are overrated by the mainstream, who don't even give a shit what their message was. I don't know why I'm even defending them - The ones who are SUPPOSED to like them, like them. So yeah, pointless post...
By the way, I find Pearl Jam to be overrated. Grunge? They're (their first album, at least) isn't even alternative. But overall, they're not too bad.

My overrated band - Tool.
Mostly because their fans go "Maynard is GOD!!"
I hate obsessive fans that say their favourite musician is the best.Sorry, just couldn't get into them all that much. Not to say I don't like them, of course. I liked 10,000 days and Lateralus. Mostly because their fans go "Maynard is GOD!!"

i agree with you.i used to think nirvana was overrated but then i realised well they had their faults and their qualities like every other band and in their own way they were very good musicians and made some good music.i have in utero and its a great album and i really enjoy it and i dont care anymore if people think they are over rated because at the end of the day its just music.you either enjoy it or not.either like nirvana or dont but dont go around calling random bands like nirvanan over rated because another person thinks they are great.every band has its super fans.just leave them to it.personally i dont care how many albums they had or what kurt cobain was like as a person i just like their music.

I can see how people may find them boring opening with a 14 min song, but i think they're amazing musicians and dont consider them overrated. overrated to me is when a lot of ppl think theyre amazing and the best when they really have no talent at all like fall out boy or whatever is playing on mtv right now.

1. Nirvana

2. The Beatles

I love both bands, but there are far better bands that don't get enough credit.

The Decemberists. They ought to get back down to the quirky folksy indie rock black hole from whence they came. And bring their album art with them.

just for the record, bauhaus was 'overrated' maybe 30 years ago.. tool is insanely popular.. their most commented song on songmeanings has 526 comments, and their other main songs in the triple digits. bauhaus most commented song has 54.. and the bauhaus discussion has been buried somewhere on this forum, the tool one has 22 pages or somethin.. just thought I should point that out.

That's exactly what they overrated for, their true metal period or something.
If it wasn't for St. Anger they would a better place in the minds of some annoying middle aged rock and roll purists, but for 95% of music fans they would have been a forgotten relic

edit. On topic Pink Floyd, AC/DC and KISS

Would you be so kind as to not place Radiohead and Tool in the same bracket?

08/29/09 8:38 PM

i will be more specific, tool are overrated 'cause for some weird reason in certain circles they are surprsingly popular, i like them but they are not the musical geniuses they are said to be

radiohead are not bad they are just mediocre so their fans think if they make enough noise about their brilliance that will change something

While I think they are indeed brilliant, you can blame their prominence on the British press hype machine. The band themselves seldom give interviews or offer themselves for photo shoots.

Same deal for Tool, I suppose its part of this mystique that makes the fans speak louder than their idols- and consequently accrue all of the hatred.

Smashing Pumpkins
They are overrated and underrated at the same time.

It's never "Smashing Pumpkins are a good band. Yes, Corgan may be an idiot sometimes, but they have good songs and some bad songs", it's

1) BWWWAAAAAAH SMASHING PUMPKINS IS THE BEST BAND EVVVVAARRRR CORGAN IS GOD! CORGAN DIED FOR OUR SINS!

2) Smashing Pumpkins rape babies because their music sucks so bad, corgan is the biggest douchebag evaaaar, it's because of S.P that there's war and misery in the world.

Many bands are in the same situation.

God, i hate to say this but i honestly think that NIN is overated. During the past 5 years Trent hasen't really released anything that has stuck with me. I do think Year Zero was pretty good. The shows have still been good, but nothing like they used to be. In years past he would put so much energy into the show that it was actually insane, now i don't know. I actually thought Janes blew them off the stage when i saw them in Vegas. There were NIN fans that said the same thing. For those of you who think i am talking out of my ass, i have been seeing them since 1989. My first show was at the Goth/Industrial club called Helter Skelter in Los Angeles, i was hooked. They just seem like they are going through the motions, i don't know. I didn't know about seeing Janes again because they were my favorite band back in the day and they always brought it, but they fucking killed and still had that danger and Perry is one of the best front men ever. Maybe it is good NIN is going away because maybe Trent will write an album like the Fragile again. And yes i hope if Janes decides to release music it is as good as the first three, because those are near perfect albums. No i am not hating...

09/03/09 10:26 PM

i happen to agree with DeathScarlet
and whats more, i always thought NIN got to be a little too popular just because Trent looked good in photos, whereas the industrial "competition" was either covered in too much blood (Nivek Ogre) or they didn't bother with mainstream promotion (FLA, KMFDM)

ps fuck radiohead
