big fan right here. My love for Metallica and NIN are equal. I can never decide between them. Anyone looking forward to Death Magnetic? from the clips i've heard, it sounds superb. The first single "The Day That Never Comes" is premiering tomorrow 8/21/08 at 11am on your local radio station. Also going to see them on 12/12 and 12/17. Indeed exciting times for Metallica and NIN!

My father found Load today (I love free stuff), I'm listening to it right now, and I really like it.
I don't know much about Metallica. Of course I know Nothing else matters, Enter Sandman, Sad but true, Master of Puppets..., the famous stuff, but Load is the first album I listen to, it's pretty good. Metallica played my town (Arras) last week, I heard it was awesome.
I'm probably going to get interested in the band smiling smiley

08/20/08 7:29 PM

i love the early stuff but aint too keen on the latest album "st anger"

That new track they've been playing, Cyanide, doesn't sound half bad. I've been pleasantly surprised by the three samples of Death Magnetic that the band has posted on their website.

From the sounds of things, Death Magnetic might actually be decent.

I only ever got into the Ride The Lightning and the ...And Justice For All albums.

I was a huge Metallica fan. I guess I still am. They're one of my all-time favourites, and they've been #1 for much of the last 15 years. I even loved the Loads. Lately though, I've been losing interest. Maybe it's just one of those phases where I need a little break, or maybe it's just that I've found so many bands that are more unique and exciting. St. Anger didn't help matters. I hope Death Magnetic gets me excited about this band again. I fear they're washed up, and that's disappointing given how much I love their pre-2000 music. That makes it hard to get too excited for the new record. I don't want to set myself up for another huge disappointment.

well for the doubtful fans of death magnetic, the new single will air today at 11am, KROQ will be airing it, count down on front page, there's a 30 second clip on youtube, apparently people in australia on itunes can buy it or preview it, not sure. Sounds very "one" style, i can't wait, 2.5 hours!

Really? No comments yet about this awesome song? Absolutely love that 5 minute mark and ending.

EDIT: It's a shame they mastered it to be ridiculously loud. It distorts other parts of the song, like James' vocals.

Holy shit, The Day That Never Comes is great. I'd really love it if it wasn't for Lars' drumming.

08/21/08 4:57 PM

^ From what I can hear of it, it's just okay. But I've yet to hear the whole song. Hopefully James' vocals are dominant, and it's not as loud and obnoxious as the previous albums.

08/22/08 12:06 AM

surprisingly good. i agree about the Lars drums, but i think it's obvious that Lars' drums will never sound good (either cans in St. Anger or the weird tinny AJFA sound). at least these are clear sounding, though. waaaay too loud in the mix though.

08/22/08 9:46 AM

love the song, gets better each time i listen to it. and don' worry about the audio quality, i doubt it's the final master. the club members got it for free. bands usually release crappy quality singles for their upcoming albums, Trivium, Slipknot, just did weeks ago, great songs but horrible quality.

08/22/08 4:49 PM

I cannot WAIT for Death Magnetic. I love Metallica. Metallica and NIN are really the first two bands I ever got into (Metallica at 7, NIN at 11). Thanks for starting this topic, unretrofied!

Can't stand the new song.

Apparently the mastering was an error (no shit) that will not be present on the record. There was a lot of bitching on the Metallica BB - and justifiably so - and that's the gist of the response given. So that's a relief at least.

The song is pretty good. Better than "Cyanaide." Would be even better if Lars was lower in the mix so I could properly ignore him as usual.

i'm glad that the mastering was an error...it was horrible.

new song 'My Apocalypse' just got posted on their site. great song, much better than the other two (not that they're bad), sounds a lot like Slayer+drumming from Harvester of Sorrow (at least the intro)+Kill 'Em All+more Slayer.

Sorry bro, but Dave Lombardo's drumming nowadays is miles better than Lars'. Twenty years ago, Lars ruled Thrash, but these days Dave, Kerry, Tom and Jeff are the Kings of ThrasH. And for good reason too!

<hint: it's because they didn't sell out like Mtallica$h did in 1995>

oh, i know Lar$ sucks. haha, i didn't mean Slayer drumming, i meant the song itself sounded like a slightly slower Slayer song. the only drumming i meant to talk about was the HOS sorta sounding thing. if you want good thrash drumming, it's all Lombardo (duh) and then Testament's Paul Bostaph. personally, i think Testament is a lot better than Slayer.

Kinda odd that Bostaph used to drum for Slayer too, isn't it? He's even in the Seasons in the Abyss video

oh snap. haha, i didn't know that actually. didn't Lombardo drum on that album, though? i still say Testament > Slayer, especially comparing their last two albums.

08/27/08 10:52 PM

Yep, because Lombardo quit in 1989, but came back in 2002.

About Metallica$h, they're still by and large a joke within the metal community. It's funny watching a YouTube interview and seeing (insert random metal artist here) say "yeah that song for us was about as bad as St. Anger" LULZ

09/02/08 10:49 PM

So I was an unbeliever ... who could blame me after Stanger.

But fuck.
This album is kicking my ass, and I'm not even in 5 songs deep.

09/03/08 12:53 AM

It's got a AJ4A type feel to it, unfortunately, James left his nuts and his voice back in 1991

09/03/08 1:45 AM

i think it's great. not as good as Testament's latest, but very strong nonetheless.

09/03/08 1:37 PM

Hello all, I just bagged myself two tickets to see them at the O2 arena in London on the 15th September fot £13, never thought I'd manage to get them, how excited am I!

*does a little 'I've got tickets' jig*

09/03/08 7:40 PM

well if you havent heard the leak of death magnetic, you may want to, its easily their best work since teh black album, if not AJFA

so do yourself a favor and go get it right now

09/03/08 9:25 PM

Im not really looking forward to Death Magnetic, but I might check it out. I listened to The Day that Never Comes, and it was alright, tho the drumming was kinda annoying.

My favorites are The Black Album and definately Ride the Lightning. Fade to Black is epic.

09/03/08 11:51 PM

Oh I'm so envious that you get to see them. They're coming here at a horrible time for me because I'm moving soon. Ugh.

But I can't wait to get their new CD, I love their new single that's out right now. The tempo of it is great.

09/04/08 1:20 AM

used to be huge into them. Fade to Black pretty much got me into the metal world. AJFA>the rest. still dig them from time to time, except for $tanger. am quite impressed with the new album. it's pretty average in general but definitely above average on the Metallica scale. Hetfield should do a solo cuntry/blues/metal album sometime.
