not exactly one of my favorite bands in the world, but they have some good stuff. i'm going to preview the new album and see what it's like. it seems a lot of people like it.

i haven't seen them play live so maybe i'll catch the philly or dc show. anyone know which is the better venue?

Got tickets for the Philly show today. It was such a fucking ordeal. The Comcast ticket website is absolute shit. Try to avoid purchasing tickets from there at all costs.

thumbs up

I got tickets to see them on January 27. Pretty excited. I don't know how it is in other places, but I heard that they're going to have the stage in the center like in Cunning Stunts. I don't know how I feel about that.

I think playing in the round is pretty cool. I had thought about going to the Chicago show, as I've never seen Metallica live before, but I'm gonna pass. I can't bring myself to pay that kind of money for a band that's as sloppy as Metallica are these days.

I've been waiting forever to see them live, so I definitely wasn't going to miss the opportunity. I have nothing against the round stage except that if I'm going to wait for hours out in the cold to get front row, I want to actually be able to see them.

I'm really feelin Death Magnetic. I saw them live finally for the first time last spring when they hit up the KROQ Weenie Roast on that pre-DM mini-tour thingy. They can still 'bring it'. I attribute the throw back sound on DM to the Rick Ruben production factor. It's reminiscent of the phenomenal pre-black album days. I can just see Rubin as fanboy/producer cheering the band on in the making of that album. Seems like some good came out of that!

I'm going to Metallica's 2 LA dates, San Diego and Ontario mixing in the NIN Vegas date all in one little week in December with my boyfriend. Can't wait!

09/14/08 11:09 AM

DM is sooo good. They can really rock for a bunch of old guys... grinning smiley

09/14/08 12:05 PM

The Day Tha never Comes is killer, as a guitar player myself, I'm happy to see Metallica going back to that lead, lead, lead, and more lead mentality. I just didn't really get that in St. Anger.

if anyone comes acrossed some tickets for the portland, oregon show that are UNDER $190..PM ME PLEASE..

James' vocals sound very processed. Although, that could totally just be youtube..

We'll see.

I haven't been into Metallica for a long time, so I think I'll be listening to this album from a pretty objective standpoint.

Maybe I won't even listen to it.

I haven't listened to St. Anger, but I get the impression that that isn't such a bad thing.

We'll see.

I love Death Magnetic, but James' vocals are atrocious.

09/16/08 6:38 PM

OK, I picked up Death Magnetic this past Sunday. AWESOME. My faith in Metallica has been restored! I've probably listened to it all the way through at least 5 times now. There isn't a song I don't like.

My only things about it are: was it really necessary to call #7 "Unforgiven 3"? The Day that Never Comes has more in common with the original than that. Not that its a bad song, I was just wondering if anyone else thought it was kind of selling out to cash in on the Unforgiven title a 3rd time. I actually forgot there was an Unforgiven 2 until I saw "#3" listed.

Also is the album packaging intentionally a joke? Some friends of mine were joking that it was just a matter of time before someone really looked at the cover and tried to stick their **** in it. lol.

but yeah, jokes aside, death magnetic is definitely the greatest album they've done since And Justice For All.

going to be amazing!

I've just been to see them in London at the O2 arena (15th), the stage was in the centre of the arena and it was absolutely amazing!!!!! It was one of the best gigs I think I've ever been to! And sloppy; they most cetainly were not. I would really urge you to go and see them. They're supposed to be coming back to the UK in February next year and I'm definately going to see them again.

At the first hearing I thought that Death Magnetic was awesome but it's not :

James => What the hell with the voice ?
Kirk => What the hell with all this wah-wah on the guitar solo ?

The songs => Hey guys where are you going ? They do differents guitar riffs in a song but you don't feel anything, it's not like the good Master of Puppets era.

So even it's better than St Anger, to me it's a bit disappointing.

09/19/08 2:49 AM

Death Magnetic restored Metallica's skill for a while. St. anger was just absolutely horrible. All Nightmare Long is my favorite track so far.

It's not better than Ride or Black album, but better than load, reload and st. anger.

I listen to the new album yesterday at work with a work mate who is a fan of the old stuff and we both agreed it was an utterly crap record we were both dissapointed after all the hype surounded with the new record. sad smiley

How many people think its funny the quality of the tracks on Guitar hero are better then the official album?

YES!!! Finally someone who feels the same the new metallica album DM is to quote your words "utterly crap", the only reason it was any good at all is cause they got rick ruben to produce it...

Pantera and Slayer over Metallica any day!!!

09/21/08 8:54 PM

I don't really like the new album at all, but I think anything is progress compared to St. Anger. Hell breaking up is progress compared to that load of shit album.

its not just youtube, they used some sort of pitch correction. Alot of people are bitching about how the cd is mixed and everything, I guess when you turn it up real loud it clips because its so compressed.

The music itself isnt that bad, I was pleasantly surprised to hear metallica at least TRYING again. The first song on the cd is definitely my favorite.

my dad described it perfectly, he said it sounds like a garage band trying to write megadeth songs, which is a good thing to me. It definitely sounds like they just went into a room and started jamming

09/22/08 1:32 PM

The new Metallica album isnt that great IMO. Most the riffs are reminiscent of Master of Puppets. When I said " I wish metallica would go back to their roots." I didnt mean parody their old music and make sure James vocals are turned all the way up. I dont wanna hear him breath between his "YE~AH" jargon.

Yeah the new cd isnt mixed well IMO. Lars does not accompany the music well.

09/22/08 3:55 PM

I think the whining over Metallica will only cease if the LHC creates a few black holes or a giant asteroid smashes into Earth.

Seriously.

Same here. All Nightmare Long may very well be my new fragging song.

After hearing the album, I think it's fantastic! Can't wait to see them Nov. 18th.
