A great site, but only during even numbered years...

Edit:
I actually think I like the following site better. If you care about the polls and baseball-esque statistics, and geek out over charts and graphs...

This is a documentary called Ring of Power. If you haven't seen it, watch it... It is split into 31 parts, so it's a LOT of information, which can be intimidating, but it's worth it. Consider it a voyage of discovery that may change the way you look at the the world/ your country/ religion. Most of the information in this video, I had already suspected, but it still blew me away at some points.

Warning: may cause enlightenment, paranoia, confusion, panic etc... but not to worry, there are many others who struggle with this information in our heads and we are all here for each other. moody smiley

So if you are ready to vastly improve your knowledge of what is really going on/has been going on for centuries... check it out. You can watch it in one ground breaking marathon or little by little...

Hey, my school made national news!

UsaToday.com

Personally, I thought the protest stupid. But, I was there showing my support, and I was very impressed at the number of students who showed up to support the cause.

Global Issues

Anup Shah posted:
This web site looks into global issues that affect everyone and aims to show how most issues are inter-related.

There are over 550 articles on this site, mostly written by myself. The issues discussed range from trade, poverty and globalization, to human rights, geopolitics, the environment, and much more. Spread over these articles, there are over 7,000 links to external articles, web sites, reports and analysis to help provide credence to the arguments made on this web site.

Got a few here. Knowledge is power people, turn off your TV and read something.

First off: [www.indymedia.org] founded in 1999 to cover the WTO protests in Seattle, has since become an international organization covering dissent all over the world.

[www.democracynow.org] The best news broadcast in the US, hands down

[www.projectcensored.org] collective dedicated to covering all the stories mainstream media avoids.

[www.infoshop.org] news and discussion forums with an anarchist slant

[www.zmag.org] Excellent media collective, regular articles from Noam Chomsky and other intellectuals. Not for the uninformed.

Educate yourself, then get out on the streets and do something about it!

Project Camelot: An interesting truth-seeking website i was referred to, packed with up to date interviews with researchers and whistleblowers! It may sound a bit cooky at first but all i ask is that you open your minds and give it a chance...

Pretty reliable news site, presents news related to politics, anti censorship and heaps of other topics. Updates every day. No doubt this will enlighten the American members of these boards onto the European and UK side of things politically and other issues which happen on a daily basis smiling smiley.

Here are a few book recommendations (although a lot of you have probably already read the first two).

A People's History of the United States, by Howard Zinn

Hegemony or Survival, Noam Chomsky

Liberty for Latin America, Alvaro Vargas Llosa

An Economic Interpretation of the Constitution of the United States, Charles A. Beard

Apparently Charles Darwin kept virtually every piece of paper he ever put a pen to and Cambridge has decided to make them all available on line. This includes not just his published works but also his diaries, journals...even his wife's diary and his bills for food, lodging, etc. while he was a student at Christ's College.

Z Magazine/Znet

Profit Over People: Neoliberalism and Global Order by Noam Chomsky
Propaganda and the Public Mind by Noam Chomsky
Class Notes by Adolph Reed Jr.
Wired for War by P.W. Singer

I read the Financial Times of London...business papers do have a tendency to discuss where the money and politics are much harder hitting than even the liberal cultural press does.
