Goodness it's been a long while, hasn't it?

Here are some things that I have done in the past few months. Not all of what I've done... that would just be ridiculous. It's more of a... sampling.

Alright then, we're off!

These two are little geeky fan art things that I've done for a rather strange, silly, trippy, British comedy programme called The Mighty Boosh. If you don't know what it is, I suggest you get on it right now. It's brilliant.

These other pieces are just things that I've done recently and am particularly pleased with.

This is a quite large zinc plate etching

Here's another zinc etching, though it's about a quarter the size of the above one and I added an overlay of monotype color after the initial intaglio print had dried.

This is a further adaptation of my fascination with dead carcasses. As you can see however, we've moved from india ink into color. It's a three color linoleum print.

Blaahhhhh

I don't particularly like doing still life work, but it is useful and good to practice. So here are some paintings of various still lifes that I have done over the past few months. Also, pardon the shiny-ness that's going on in some of the photos. The amount of paint I tend to use (the technical term for it is "shit-ton"winking smiley and the flash on my camera are not friends.

Here goes.

Because paper bags and fabric are fun

and who doesn't love frying pans?
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y189/shmanet_janet/Artistic%20Interlude/DSCN1551.jpg

glass and water = pain in the ass

and the winner for most annoying fabric to paint...ever, goes to....

Well. That was fun.

Danke! And a zinc plate etching is exactly what it sounds like. To make a print you take a sheet of zinc, then create a coat of wax over the surface. You then use an etching needle to scratch away the parts of the print you want to hold ink. When the drawing is finished, you dip the plate in the acid bath and let the acid etch away the lines you made. Depending on how dark and deep you want the lines, you leave the plate in the acid for longer periods of time, or do multiple layers of drawings to get a variety of line values. You then remove the wax, ink the plate, wipe off the excess and make a print!

It's a lot of work but it's worth it!

Thank you very much! I loooove working with ink. There is something very loose and at the same time very... I don't know.. visceral about it. It's one of my favorite things grinning smiley
