52 weeks, 52 songs

The subject title is my proposal to all the bands/artists on here.

Recently I have been inspired by a friend of mine who is a digital artist, and he is planning for 2011 to have 1 JPEG posted every day. The discipline and challenge behind that fascinates me, so i decided to make a project of my own to try stick to for 2011. Instead of 365 songs (that would just kill anybody), I plan on doing 1 song a week for 52 weeks. I feel that the challenge to this is exactly what I need to end my procrastination. I post this because I wonder how many of you would be up for this?

If so, I'm following a set of rules to make sure I don't take an easy way out.
A) A song must be a minimum of two minutes in length.
B} Vocals are optional for every song.
C) Monday is the start date for a new song (no early starts) and Sundays are the absolute deadline.
and D) Every 8 tracks makes 1 EP, except for the last which will be 5 tracks.

So who's up for the challenge with me? I plan on starting January 3rd (first full week of the new year), and I am done on December 30th.

52 Weeks, 52 Songs... 2011 will be a busy year.

---------------
Also a small side note, I'm an independent artist by the name 25:17, and I actually just recently released a new single. Click the link to check it out. The song is called "Entity, Leaving", and you can find it on Facebook, MySpace, PureVolume, ReverbNation, SoundClick, and YouTube. Sorry for the shameless self advertising, but i got to get the word out some how.

I'd be into this if I weren't so preoccupied with other hobbies and sucking at writing.

Because, here's the thing; I pretty much *do* write a song every week as it is. Or at least, I write a bit of a song. And if it's not cool enough, it goes in the trash. It looks like my writing process for an album is basically that I write a good chunk of the lyrics first, and write music to accompany. Pieces of the instrumentation come with the lyrics, and then the rest of the song follows on from that. The problem is that sometimes it doesn't always work right and I have to ditch part of a song and that's the thing.

But I do know someone who this would work for...

I'm the same way, I can never be satisfied with my work. That's why I'm doing something like this, for that much needed push.

I might get in on this to an extent. I'm sure I won't be able to be there with it every week, but who knows...we'll see how it pans out. Message me or email me if you're interested.

Some of my work:
My Solo Work
My work with fellow NIN Forum member cadair8

My solo junk is more hard rock, the music with cadair8 is more soundscape, industrial.

it only seems hard for me because I procrastinate a lot, but things are goin smoothly so far.

I'm a big procrastinator as well, I've thought of doing one song a week before as well, and from the beginning of the year. It would be a good way to get a bunch of demos together for an album in which you could focus on the best of your year of work. Its just a matter of getting into a routine. One week isn't unreasonable at all per song, it would be a great motivator. I'm gonna try this myself smiling smiley

i know what i am going to say is going to raise a few eyebrows,
but i'll say it anyway.

hyperproduction is an ailment of a modern man.
quantity over quality.
chinese factories overproducing cheap plastic garbage replaced
their traditional porcelain art.

i am for
music as a result of introspection.
a soundscape of our deepest self.
a find of our search for beauty or ugliness.
a medium to channel fear, frustration, sadness, regret, guilt, and all so called sins.
the love of and for the universe, materialized and condensed into a sound.
a selfinvented ritual.

perception, contemplation, synthesis, refinement, birth.

one song a week sounds more like a gym schedule to me.
no offense. i was just being honest.

Some people can only be assed to create if they create on a schedule.

Not just that, but I believe songwriting and making music is a muscle, and it must be exercized regularly to keep it going. I couldn't write for a year because I...wasn't writing frequently. Once I sat down and started writing, I *couldn't stop.* So much to the point that I wrote two albums.

and let's not forget ..trent creating some of his best work in the past few years (to me)

after working with a deadline and being pushed to create something...not on his own time and terms.
