KMOS!!! smiling smiley I'm fine, but it's bloody cold here right now!!! It's almost summer but it feels more like winter, and it's been raining the last few days. What is with this crazy topsy-turvy weather????

To all my American friends, Happy Thanksgiving Day!!! I hope you all have a great day and don't eat too much. smiling smiley

11/24/11 5:35 AM

Ya Happy Thanksgiving to all my American buddies too!!!! smileys with beer

Hope your well JC. Ya, it's unseasonally mild here in the Emerald Isle, about 14oC, but getting cooler abit, but nearly December!

Our weather boffins here though we'd have snow in October (still not here yet!)... sad smiley

11/24/11 9:14 PM

Happy Thanksgiving. Joan!!! grinning smiley Hugs all the way from sunny Scotland!

Now that I think of it, it's about damn time Joan had her own thread! grinning smiley You've been very sweet towards me since the day I joined the board. You're ace, Joan! b

11/26/11 3:54 AM

vince, yes, I'm very well, thank you. smiling smiley I don't know, but I think the world's weather patterns might be changing. All this week we've had rain and it's been really cold (for us) as if it was winter still and not almost summer. Today started out cold and then warm and sunny. vince, I hope you guys get some snow soon, 'twould be nice to have a white Christmas. smiling smiley

ScarletSiren, you pretty lady you!!! Happy Thanksgiving to you too!! Thank you for your kind words. The way I see it, there's too much negativity in the world, so why not spread a little love around??? smiling smiley

Well, people, I've just got a brand-new digital tv and personal video recorder all set up, the tv part is easy but it's going to be interesting figuring out the pvr... It's got a 320gig hard drive... not that I record anything from television or anything like that, you're not really supposed to do things like that...

So, what are all you wonderful people doing, apart from eating lots of turkey... smiling smiley

I wish I could have some turkey someday again. Here it isn't that popular but is delicious.

Well, that looks like a kick ass TV! O.O I bet the image is awesome too.
I heard you had lots of rain this week and some other places in Australia were too hot (37ºC). Here the weather is getting hot, 30 - 32ºC everyday. Summer starts on December 21 so I guess this summer will be rough for everyone in the southern hemisphere -.-

I hope you have had a nice Thanksgiving's day, as I know we have nothing to do with that I still find it sweet wishing a nice day between us here and there smiling smiley

Yes, we've had some extreme weather here. Last week Sydney was like winter, cold and very very wet. Now it's more like the weather we should be having. Today was 30 celsius and not too humid. In north-western New South Wales there have been floods and the people are getting emergency food and medical supplies flown in.

It is nice to respect other people's customs and holidays. It helps us all to be a bit more understanding of one another.

So, now is the time to start thinking about Christmas. Has anybody started Christmas shopping yet? I'll probably be buying the fruit for my Christmas cake later this week, I make a very delicious Christmas cake. I put all the fruit in a huge jar with a little bit of whiskey and seal it for three weeks, then when I make the cake the fruit is nicely flavoured and smells delicious. grinning smiley Apart from that, we have just a quiet celebration, picnic lunch, maybe a baked dinner in the evening. Not sure if I'll decorate the house much this year, my children are grown up and not too fussed whether I decorate the house or not.

11/28/11 10:47 AM

Hi Joan ! smiling smiley

I'm behind on my Christmas shopping....!

Grown up kids are too self-conscious to admit that they will miss the decorations if they aren't any !

11/29/11 10:58 PM

Hi Joan! smiling smiley

Do you visit the beach on Christmas?

11/30/11 4:02 AM

Hi sithlordjp!! I don't think my children will miss the Christmas decorations. smiling smiley I might put a few up, I don't know...

Hi Xanthe!!! *hug* Yes, we have gone to a town called Wollongong - pronounced "Woolongong" - on the coast about an hour's drive south-east of where we live. We pack a picnic lunch and then go for a walk along the cliff top. It's surprising the number of people who do this on Christmas Day. A very pleasant way to spend the day.

So, what do you all have planned for Christmas Day?

12/24/11 4:20 AM

Hi everybody!!! Just wanted to wish all my friends at nin.com and their families the very best for Christmas and the New Year.

12/24/11 4:42 AM

Oh hai there. This is my 1000th post, and I might as well mark that milestone by posting in here.

Happy Christmas Joan, from the other side of the country smiling smiley

12/24/11 2:15 PM

Merry Christmas, Joan! smiling smiley

12/26/11 4:04 AM

somerville1991, Rogue1, thank you both!!! *group hug*

12/28/11 5:21 AM

Happy Holidays!

12/30/11 4:53 AM

^^And to you too, Rhett!!!!

What's everybody doing for New Year's? I will probably go to Koshigaya Park (about 20 minutes drive from home) and watch the 9pm fireworks. There's various activities but it's all family-oriented. There will be music but not exactly my style. So I'll probably get bored, come home, drink the bottle of wine that I bought yesterday (haven't done anything like that in quite a while!!) and sleep all the next day. smiling smiley

Here's a few pictures I took recently

These are some very acrobatic Galahs.

Every year at this time the Galahs, Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos, Rainbow Lorikeets and Corellas love to get in the pine tree in my front garden and eat it!! smiling smiley They're very bold and very cheeky, and they watch me taking photos of them eating my tree. The quality of the photos is not so good because I'm taking the photos through the upstairs bedroom window.

He is not a replacement for the one I lost, he is the newest member of my little family. Isn't he pretty? smiling smiley

JOAN!!! Jesse is gorgeous!!!
I'm so happy for ya. How is it that you pick the most majestic creatures to accompany you? SUCH a handsome fella. I'm sure that Blackie would be happy knowing that a great pooch is keeping watch over his loved ones! grinning smiley

03/02/12 4:57 AM

Colin, thank you!! Yes, he is handsome isn't he? My daughter and I were at a little town not too far from where we live, and in a cafe window was a sign "Free to good home: Border Collie cross, 2 months old, good temperament" and a mobile phone number and name. Took the details, the sign had actually been posted by one of the waitresses in the cafe, she told us a bit more about the dog and less than a week later we went and checked him out. We met his grandfather who is a very handsome pure bred Border Collie, his grandmother who is a beautiful very matronly pure bred Bull Arab, and his mother who is also a pure bred Bull Arab. I've never heard of the breed before so I googled. They're an Australian breed, a mixture of Greyhound, German Shorthaired Pointer, Bull Mastiff and one or two other breeds. Very very loyal dogs, quiet temperament. The vet I go to knows the breed quite well and said I could expect my young fellow to grow to be about 30-35kgs which is a bit smaller than Blackie was. But Jesse was the last of the litter to be born and the smallest, so maybe he won't be quite that big. He is a very fast learner and is settling in to our routine very well. The little bugger can tell the time!!! He knows what time dinner is... smiling smiley I haven't been taking him out walking yet, he got his kennel cough vaccination last Monday and the vet advised me to keep him away from other dogs for 10 days until the vaccine takes effect. I'm going to be walking him about 4 times a week and introducing him to all Blackie's old friends.

How are you Joan? It is still raining there? ^-^ It's Fall already there?
How's Jesse?

03/04/12 4:26 AM

Thanks Rhett. smiling smiley Yes, I will enjoy having Jesse around, once we both get past the puppy stage. smiling smiley He's lively but not destructive, which is good, but I still keep a fairly close eye on him.

Lita my dear, I'm fine!!! smiling smiley How are you? Yes, it's still raining here. It's been a very wet summer. We've got floods and threats of floods in various parts of the state, and Warragamba Dam (Sydney's main water supply) is actually full for the first time in 14 years, and is even overflowing which is not so good for the people who live downstream because they're some of the people who are in the flood areas.

It is indeed the beginning of autumn here, not that you can really tell because, like I said, it's been a wet summer and coolish weather as well.

Jesse is good!! He doesn't bark very much, but he has a squeaky toy and he talks to it!!! No kidding!!! I think maybe he thinks it is talking to him and he talks back. smiling smiley

So, how has everybody been? What's happening for y'all? smiling smiley

Hi Joan.

*appreciates*

03/06/12 4:52 AM

cute_annie, thank you so much!! *hug* But I don't knit, I crochet. But that's OK, a lot of people make that mistake.

peacenin!!! Hi!!! smiling smiley

Well, yesterday my son got a replacement motorcycle for the one that was written off a month ago. For those who don't know, he was riding along quite happily and decided to pull over to the side of the road to push his hair out of his eyes. He saw a pothole but it was too late to avoid it and the bike went over with his leg underneath it. He was able to push the bike off him. He was wearing all his protective clothing and helmet so he was very lucky. The only injuries were some soft tissue damage to his right leg, and a wound where his house keys (which were in his inner jacket pocket) penetrated his abdomen. The worst part was at the hospital when he had a ct scan and they gave him iv contrast (iodine). About 10-20 minutes later his face swelled up, his tongue swelled up and he started to have difficulty talking. It was an anaphylactic (sp?) reaction and neither of us had any idea. It was really scary, but the doctors and nurses were very quick to react and administered adrenaline and put him on a adrenaline drip all that night to counteract the iv contrast.

So, he's back on the road again, and mummy worries again smiling smiley But he's a careful rider and always wears his protective gear (even when it's stinking hot), and I shouldn't worry about him.

He's going to the immunologist tomorrow to get a bracelet or pendant and chain necklace with all the information about the anaphylaxis reaction on it. He was talking about getting that info tattooed on his arm (his first tattoo!!!) as well. He might do that. He's not really one for jewellery and where he works, jewellery is not really a good thing to have because of occupational health and safety.

03/21/12 9:16 AM

Hey there, Joan.

What kind of bike did your son get?

I forgot to say that I noticed you got the website up. Congratulations! I took a look and you have some beautiful work for sale.
(Check it out, under her profile website info, peeps!)

Also, you should be praised for you continual work with that awesome medical event. You've got a really big heart to give your hair for a great cause but, then again, you are beautiful with short hair so maybe you just wanted a free haircut. winking smiley Just kidding, of course.

03/21/12 9:27 AM

Hey,

Glad to hear that your son is doing okay.

03/22/12 6:07 AM

Colin, my son Adrian got a 2012 Hyosung 250, a white one this time. The insurance company paid for it but he had to pay the dealer a certain amount of money. The previous bike was fully insured, so that was lucky. He couldn't wait to get back on the road again, even rode to work in very heavy rain a couple of Thursdays ago, riding over a flooded road.... I told him I would worry until he got home safe, and he got home safe. He rode up to Bathurst and back a couple of Saturdays ago, with a group called Sydney Riders. They're experienced riders who take learners like Adrian on planned rides. Bathurst is about 5-6 hours ride from here.

Yes, my website is up and running. smiling smiley Haven't had any sales yet, but I've got a couple of orders from elsewhere that I'm working on. Thanks for your kind words. smiling smiley

About that World's Greatest Shave thing, it's something I'd been wanting to do for a while but I kept procrastinating and missing out. Then about 5 years ago I finally did it and have been doing it ever since. It's a bit of a stir really, I like to watch people's reactions to my very short hair. smiling smiley Although these days nobody bats an eyelid when they see me... I suppose they're used to my freaky ways or something... Actually it is a really cheap way to keep my hair neat and tidy. In March I do the World's Greatest Shave and they use a No. 2 razor, and I make a donation. In about September or October I have my head shaved again but this time it's just for me and I ask for a No. 4 razor so the hair is a little bit longer, and I pay for just a regular haircut. So that's two "haircuts" a year and really really cheap way to keep my hair neat!!! grinning smiley

Hey there, Rhett!!!! Thanks for the kind words about Adrian, yes he's doing fine.

sending lots of love and appreciation once again to the one and only joan! grinning smiley
