Listen to you. Was it a chance encounter or did you stalk his bus? lol
I liked the Screaming Trees back in the day.
A little of both. I was going to a Soulsavers (one of the bands Lanegan collaborates with these days) show, arrived early, hoping to meet a friend for drinks. She had to cancel, and i had a few hours to kill, so i walked to the venue, wandered around for a bit, grabbed a slice and a soda, and settled down in front of the Bowery. Bus was out front, and Lanegan just came out to go in and do soundcheck; i was the only one there, called his name, and we chatted for a minute or two before he went in. He seemed surprised that someone was there who wanted to talk to him, but was pretty polite and accomodating. When he said he had to leave, i told him he was a musical hero of mine; he thanked me, turned around to walk away, then turned back and did a double take, with a look on his face like i was crazy. His demeanor was much as i'd have expected it to be: very soft spoken and calm, but i was surpised by how gentle his handshake was(he shook my hand twice). Didn't even ask him for a picture, because i didn't want to be the typical "starstruck fan" and ruin the moment. If i had a list of musicians i wanted to meet, he'd have topped it(up there with Nick Cave, somewhere above TR... heh), and meeting him was about as much as i could have realistically hoped it'd be(ie, he seemed to be as cool as i'd figured he was, and i didn't make a fool of myself).

how was the show?
Show was excellent, albeit short. Both of the opening acts were great(the first, Red Ghost, is also the new female voice on the new Soulsavers record), but Soulsavers only played for a little over an hour. No lights, no fanfare, though that'd be what i'd have expected from Mark Lanegan. Their set was excellent, with two Lanegan songs popping up (Hit the City, which was kind of a surprise, and Kingdoms of Rain, which Soulsavers redid on their last album); they played their songs, left the stage, came back out for a short encore, and that was that. Woke up the next morning sick as hell, and if i hadn't had to work, i might have hopped into my Mazda and driven up to Boston to catch them again at the Paradise.

We need to find you a keytar and rock out! I can't wait to share some good eats and booze on Saturday
Yes Blue, I get to party with Fan in 2 days!!!
You know what? One of these days, she'll hang out with me, and we'll eat tons of good food, drink good alcohol, and play accordian until the cows come home, and you'll be so jealous because you won't be there.
I don't have a keytar, but anyone who comes here can play Guitar Hero/Rock Band to his/her heart's content, which is usually close enough.
