I concur with this sentiment.

How about a feed of TR's forums posts, for those that want to be far away from the forums as much as possible?

This would be great. It would be a filter. A shortcut. For those that need it.

I believe many will appreciate this.

12/15/10 7:41 AM

Or just use the search function? [forum.nin.com]

12/16/10 12:38 AM

^You should re-read my first sentence. Unless you're being a smart-ass, and a dick.

12/16/10 6:29 AM

Probably both. If you want to keep up to date on everything Trent posts, just use the forums, or build your own crawler to notify you whenever he posts.

12/17/10 1:50 AM

Build my own...? I'm not that techy.
NIN/TR has feeds on everything. Why not just add another one to the forums posts?

Why should they offer forum posts out of context? If one wants to know what he has to say in the forums, one can use the search function of the forum. If even that little interaction with the forum is too much, bad luck.

12/17/10 11:54 AM

TR doesn't post that often...using the search function shouldn't be that difficult.

12/17/10 11:28 PM

Why, because it's a rule that the whole world follows? TR has given us feeds on everything he does. Not do it for his forums posts, it's just ...closed minded attitude.

@dori_doreau: Out of context? Aren't twitter reply feeds out of context? When I read TR's twitter reply to someone, idk what he's talking about, if I don't go to someone's twitter profile that idk and try to find out the original message, which I rarely do, if not, never.

12/18/10 12:48 AM

Richard, why come to the forums to request a way to keep on top of what TR posts in the forums without actually visiting the forums? If you don't like the forums which TR created, you don't really need to know what TR posts here, do you?

12/18/10 12:56 AM

@PeedroPaula Why not? I faced it. I used to try to not read TR's forums posts if it just didn't happen...you know, without searching for it. It wasn't normal, or whatever. But, hey, we are all obsessed with TR. So, fuck normal.

Also, the feed could include links to the forum post location, like all feeds do ,right. So, I would just visit the forums when being redirected by the feed link.

There are dozens of guides online of how to make your own RSS feeds. I don't see the point in having one just for Trent's posts, which are so rare anyway.

Also, we're not all obsessed with TR, most of us aren't creepy. If you don't like these forums, why not try echoing the sound, a different community that will always mention when Trent posts here anyway.

Can someone close the Performance Video Election for me? And a suggestion/question: wouldn't it be easier to give the author of the thread the power to close the thread? Of course mods would still have that power too!

VVVV Didn't think of that Sheep, good point... people can be stupid. VVVV

No, because it would be stupid to "create" something that is redundant or because someone is too lazy to do a little work. There is a search function...try using it. He has 220 posts, FFS.

And honestly, I find your request a little creepy and stalkerish. This is the Nine Inch Nails website...not the Trent Reznor website.

12/18/10 11:17 PM

Hahaha. You people are weird.

BTW @Sheepdean I'll try to find a way to create a feed of TR forums posts. Thanks.

and DONE!
Femtoo FTW!
Thank you TR for the module at the forums profiles!

and thanks again @Sheepdean for giving me an idea!

What Richard suggests actually makes sense, as everything announced on the front page (the news) is from Trent anyway and becomes a forum post - so you get all the pertinent news in one feed, plus any other posts. I'm a bit confused about how spending LESS time on nin.com but just wanting to know the news makes him a stalker???

12/19/10 2:50 PM

Stalkerish...but I'm glad Richard found a suitable solution for himself.

12/19/10 11:51 PM

Alright, have fun, guys and gals. With this, I don't see why I should have any more complaining.

Y <3 & understanding.

Ban any and all graphs that analyze how a remastered CD sounds compared to an original CD.

But then how would we take over a reviews thread with childish bickering about things that no one understands or cares about?

12/24/10 1:43 AM

nevermind.

"Nine Inch Nails Discussion
General NIN topics."

Regarding that ^ forum:

Wouldn't it be a good idea to not mix the official threads in that forum with the rest of the threads created by fans (members)?

"General NIN topics" could be the name of the sub-forum.
---
edit:This [forum.nin.com] is the only non-official thread (aka created by a member) that is treated as an official thread (aka- clean first post, just facts, etc)

Now, shouldn't there be a forum for these official threads, and then another forum for the dur threads?
Apart from the few who create the threads, and reply to the threads, is there anyone who likes seeing all this clusterfudge?

edit: Also, this thread [forum.nin.com] is nice, too.
Should've been an official thread. But, it wasn't. Interesting.

I think that it would be really cool if websites with forums added a "What Websites Do You Frequent" portion to their Profile pages.

I say this as a suggestion not just for nin.com, but for any site developers who may happen to be here, and I'm sure there are at least some.

Just so people can get an idea of others' internet interests as well as personal interests when viewing other members' profiles.

02/08/11 1:03 PM

I would think that the people who would be most interested in a feature like that would be people in the marketing and data mining fields.

02/08/11 8:00 PM

They might be interested, but I think that others would be, too. I mean, favorite TV shows are listed, why not favorite websites?

02/11/11 8:46 AM

I think that every profile on nin.com should go thru a full verification process before having the privilege of using this site. There are a lot of anonymous weirdos here...... & creepy peeps too. It will also help weave out the trolls. smiling smiley

02/11/11 11:37 AM

What would that prove though? I think anyone could lie regardless of verification. The point of the internet is to remain anonymous. I don't see your point but continue on if you must.

02/11/11 10:40 AM

Not a bad idea but this site is run on an open Internet policy which is believe is far fairer and more consistent with the legal structure of Western democracy, the principles the site is based on. I don't think we should be making more mod work and nakung it harder to sign up because a hanndful of people have a problem following rules and being civil. We have mods and people are "innocent until proven guilty" at which point they get warned or banned. There really aren't that many anonymous people here, you might want to check out in more detail who people are. I note you called me anonymous and refused to acknowledge you were wrong or take it back. I'm guessing a lot of the people you think are anonymous probably aren't either.

Hardly any of the regulars on this site is an anonymous weirdo. Most of them have links to their MySpace, Twitter, or Facebook in their profiles. If they don't, they usually have posted pictures of themselves or will provide links to their social networking pages if asked.

Many of us have met up in various places over the years and know each other outside of nin.com as well as in the boards. Kinda hard to be anonymous if you have no qualms about meeting people in person and telling them your real name.

Besides, this is a free site. What you are suggesting would cost money. Now that could either be paid for with ads, which no body wants here, or by making members pay a fee, which is what The Spiral was.
