Do petitions ever actually work?

Not as well as ticket sales.

Best chance for a NIN sideshow is a sellout Soundwave.

Who knows though, it might be in the contract. Really though, it's been 5 days since the lineup got announced. If there are sideshows they will most likely be announced after tickets go on sale. It's called 'business sense'. Soundwave isn't the Big Day Out. It's not guaranteed to sell out, therefore they can't do a Neil Young-like announcement.

Uh so yeah, chill out people. If it happens, it happens.

AHHHH I just want to say BDO the fragile tour I did not attend.........I believe that was sold out....and where the **** were the sideshows?!

So im not taking this lying down, if it happens it happens dont work for me sorry.

09/28/08 4:16 AM

I don't think you can petition something that hasn't even happened yet hey - if they say there won't be any sideshows then I'd be worried, but it's early days yet and the dates are pretty lenient.
We've been pretty lucky that NIN have come back so soon, so a bit of patience won't go astray smiling bouncing smiley

lol sarah fair point Im preparing in advance, so I guess petition is the wrong word perhaps I should term it "We ask you to consider this" and get the numbers behind it to back it, coz the amount of ppl who have said ohhh yay a festival are about 1 in a million

Couldn't have said it better meself!!

And as far as business sense goes, I won't be getting a ticket to Soundwave regardless, but I'd sure as hell put that same money towards a sideshow without a microsecond's hesitation.

Where's the business sense in that??

09/28/08 6:01 AM

I am planning on going to Soundwave, just in case... but I will also do a sideshow too.

Fair point, I mean we all want sideshows. Hell, they can do a residency for all I care.

As Sarah said though, we've been quite lucky. NIN have played 11 shows in the last 3 years or so in Australia, all of them headlining non-festival shows. Add these 5 and then you have 16 NIN sets since 2005. We've done well.

It's called the Soundwave Festival, not the Sideshow Festival. They're interested in selling the main product first. Am I really trying to explain this? Jesus.

You're not wrong there Sarah.
Can I get a round of tranquilizers for anyone? On me!

09/29/08 12:55 AM

Ooh if you're buying. Speaking of tranquilizers, we're going to have to sort out some kind of pub crawl again aren't we? LOWENBRAU FTW!!

I, for one, LOVES Soundwave, and hope they only do Soundwave, so that everyone here will go and enjoy Soundwave, because Soundwave is the best.

And cmon, it's named after the transformer, who totally kicked ass.

09/29/08 5:05 PM

BDO 09

*shrugs*
Pass

09/29/08 5:29 PM

Soundwave was my favorite transformer, and although i pray for side shows, i won't miss seeing NIN live. Even if it means waiting through a bunch of screamo bands.

Hear, hear.

Aaaalso, BDO 09, The Prodigy! And it's great to see COG on the line-up.

09/30/08 2:28 AM

Probably go to pendulum, bullet and prodigy sideshows. I've seen all the other bands I've wanted to see on it. Depends on you motherfuckers, will you make it fun for me? biaaatches!

09/30/08 2:59 AM

I refuse to go to Big Day Out just to see Cog. It would be sweet if we had a day off between Sydney soundwave and nin side show to go the Lowenbrau again.

Simon: I can do google talk too.

09/30/08 4:31 AM

You and your freakin sideshows!!! PRODIGY FTW! I am there with no pants on. I am also heading to Summafieldayze for Underworld.

If Prodigy do a concert in Sydney, a few of my friends and I will be definately down there for it!

Edit: I know this is the raver in me talking and I probably don't really fit in this board as far as general music tastes go... but if you get the chance to see Pendulum and you're kinda into drum and bass - I highly highly recommend it. The last time I saw them they mixed in a whole heap of different stuff and they fucking rocked out.

09/30/08 3:55 PM

indeed but alas, i might go to one, i dunno. i wonder what 2nd line up will have.

09/30/08 7:32 PM

Please, let's not turn this into a Big Day Out thread!!! They always end in tears!!!

09/30/08 9:12 PM

I can't believe how rubbish the BDO line up is.

Well I can, I guess Soundwave pinched some of their possibilities and I dare say V Festival will have a good line up.

Hey Pigs.

So I am guessing that my festival days are not over as I had hoped...

After putting up with soaring temperatures, hour long drink queues, half-hour long piss queues, thousands of fuckwit teenagers off thier faces etc, etc just to see RATM in the distance... (Although Billy Bragg was pretty cool too)

I really enjoyed NIN at BDO (in 2000?) but it wasn't a patch on last year's show at the Metro or the With Teeth show in Brisbane a few years ago.

In my opinion, festivals are more for hanging out with friends, picking up and maybe seeing something new...

If you are already a fan of a band then surely it is better to enjoy them with other fans, and not random idiots who happen to be getting smashed in the area they are playing?

Or maybe I'm just getting old...
