As far as hotels go, depends on your budget and where you want to stay. You can find some of the places like the Sheraton, Hilton in downtown Seattle for under $100 a night using Priceline and such. I wouldn't say it's necessary to rent a car unless you want to branch out to places like Mt. Rainier, West Seattle (Alki is the only reason to head over that way). Otherwise the public transportation downtown is free, and decent.

Downtown Bellevue is nice, it's free of crackheads and homeless people...so much cleaner than downtown Seattle. But no Pikes Place in Bellevue. Like seafood?

Thanks for the info. If I have to spend a little money on a room, I won't mind. I don't go out often and deserve a little treat.

I have also been reading that parking each day is like $40 a day! Wondering if it really is necessary since renting a car will be $150. $40 a day... over $300 just for car rental? Plus gas? sheesh!

I'd like to stay downtown Seattle but a few people that I've talked to have made me nervous about saying it's not safe at night and everything closes at ten. I'm looking for a clean, hip hotel and around some nightlife and bars. I'd also love to eat some awesome seafood and we plan on visiting pikes place.

There is also an art exhibit going on in Seattle from a guy who is from Tucson, which is pretty exciting going away from home to someone from home.

What time do bars usually close? What bars do you recommend? I also heard there is a law that you can't order hard alcohol to your hotel room? Only beer and wine?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm getting a bit stressed not being sure about what hotel to pick.

I picked a hotel finally...

We're staying at the Grand Hyatt downtown Seattle.

I'm getting anxious. I want it to be next Friday already. This week is going to go by so slow.

07/08/11 10:47 AM

It's next friday already grinning smiley

I wanna know why you keep making new profiles? Do you have a mob after you on the internet or what?

no, i just have ideas too often, but then they just don't stick and because of the way i abandon these accounts, that keeps me from being able to access previous ones again. i delete the email address in the account settings and that'll render any attempt to log in invalid after i give it up to a week, even though the password entered is correct...

i'd use my somestrangesaint account again if i could... i shouldn't have abandoned that one...

edit: TOPF...

I keep reading this because it's TOP but it still makes no sense. Why do you need a different e-mail account? Just make one account and edit the e-mail address. You're just coming off weird for doing this.

oh, BTW, i don't think i ever answered this question... i make new email accounts to go with the new nin.com accounts because i like things to match, so it's mainly symmetrical reasoning. i could've used one email throughout all the different nin.com accounts i'd ever made, but then things wouldn't feel right to me...

this is a new gmail account i have to go with this nin.com account and i have a Bandcamp account i'll be using eventually as well. VALKJAS is pretty much my new online handle. i have an unrelated AOL email for more personal stuff and an old spam account on Yahoo, and everything else is either deactivated or i don't remember it well enough to get back into it...

so yeah, explanation that was probably long overdue there...

11/10/11 3:51 PM

Yeah, still doesn't make sense.

11/10/11 4:56 PM

Should we hide?

11/10/11 4:55 PM

I think so.

In my huge parachute panties?

No, those are Veronica's.

05/06/12 11:38 AM

errr... shoreline here. could use some friends that share this way of thought and perception. damaged little things, aren't we?

05/14/12 12:03 AM

so... yeah, "valkjas" was derezzed, and here i stand in his place. i might also be "dexifnekorb" on a part-time basis, but the point here is this: i'm that guy from Tacoma that pretty much nobody wants to meet... hi there. how can i help you today?

alright, well i'll be around, so if anyone needs my attention, just give me a holler...

07/04/12 3:25 PM

So...I am 99% sure I am moving to the Seattle area late September of this year. However, I've never actually been there. grinning smiley (Call me crazy.)

Anyway, this is a fairly open-ended post, I realize, but I was wondering if any of you wonderful ninfans could offer me advice? As in, good parts of town to live/work? (Know of any jobs, etc?) I've been trying to ask around, about all of it, but it's a bit overwhelming. (Nothing I haven't done before, however.)

Any offered advice would be GREATLY appreciated, either in here or via PM. I'm so excited to move I could explode. grinning smiley

I would suggest living north of Seattle, it's cheaper but then you'd have to commute. We do have lightrail tho that starts in Everett which is about 40 miles north of Seattle. What kind of work are you looking for?

I'll probably not have a car (still), at least not right away, since most of my saved money will go toward moving costs. :-\

As for work-- I'm really willing to do about anything. Waiting tables, etc., until I find something more in my career. ("Career" wishfully thinking = something back in academia, in a writing center, writing/publishing; though I'm really willing to do about anything aside from F&B management.)

I say this completely truthfully, and in a non-cliche way: I am intelligent, hard-working, a quick learner, and worth training for any job. I have excellent references from every job I've worked. smiling smiley

There are tons of jobs in Seattle to be had, I'd have one but it's too much of a drive for me unless the pay is worth it. And I'm talking $25 an hour or more...

You can get anywhere around here, no car needed. I suggest looking at the worksource website for Seattle, it's pretty full of jobs for any level of entry.

07/11/12 11:48 AM

^^Yeah, this is true, about travel time/money being worth it for a job. I don't even know which specific area (in or outside of Seattle) I'll be living/working in.

That website is a huge help! I hadn't heard of it-- thanks! grinning smiley

07/12/12 11:12 AM

No problem!

You can sleep in my closet, with all the other gimps I've been collecting from nin.com.... Just saying....grinning smiley
