I honestly think having the screening at an Austin location would be best as far as getting people there, they've had several nin events and even had a free screening of that Cooper guys edit of the gift. After seeing the turnout for the ohgr show last year at the white rabbit I wouldn't put much faith in an ample san Antonio turnout. A buddy of mine knows the manager or if you guys wanna try and contact them, something to consider.

White Rabbit is completely different than Alamo Drafthouse. White Rabbit is a piece of shit club for wanna be tough metal bands lol Drafthouse will draw a crowd I assure you.

Lol I'm biased on TWR. Been there, played there, hate it

@charmlessman You're missing the point I'm not criticizing the venue I'm talking about San Antonio lacking a musically involved community. your reply is a perfect example of the kind of attitude I'm referring to, i'd go to an ohgr show at the fucking
midnite rodeo if he played there. I'm not there to
see the venue.

What ohgr show? I think you might be underestimating my fair city just a little. tongue sticking out smiley Not that I don't like Austin(I think it's bloody awesome),just think SA should get some love every once in awhile. What I meant by the rabbit turnout was that the rabbit generally draws a certain crowd most of the time. This however,if handled correctly will go over well & might even exceed expectations. It's all about the right time & place.Whatever this ohgr thing was,the simple fact that it was at the rabbit is a big enough turn off for a lot of people as I know a lot of NIN fans here that just avoid the rabbit at all costs

Hey, you, smiling smiley....we already talked with the Alamo Drafthouse here and everything is pretty much set, we are just working out at date with them at the moment.....I understand your opinion about the music scene here but I have faith in NIN fans in general and they always put a good turnout to stuff like this.

i've been to the White Rabbit several times, i like the venue. i've seen Combichrist, KMFDM, The Misfits, lots of others, and i was at the Ohgr show as well. charmlessman, you don't know who Ohgr is?

anyhoo... i agree with mythrus83 a bit. Austin would probably get a better turn out due to location and community. the NIN/JA warm up party at the Austin drafthouse got a good turnout. but so far, there is no screening set up for austin and san antonio has already gotten things off the ground.

i'm a little concerned that this screening is scheduled the same day as super bowl sunday. go forbid the cowboys make it all the way to the super bowl b/c it may be hard to tear people away from that. but i'll be there smiling smiley

Lol, Korrie and I are a little worried too but we stuck to the date because it was the best option....I think the turn out will be fine....at least I know all my NIN peeps will be there so Im happy about that, smiling smiley

Oh and btw I love Austin, my fave city in TX actually but the decision to do it in San Antonio is because I live here and doing it at the Alamo Drafthouse by my house popped in my head as soon as Korrie bought it up. I went to the one in Austin for the NINJA tour so I thought we change it up this time and have it here....didn't mean to disappoint anyone and I hope everyone can make it out and enjoy themselves smiling smiley

I actually think its awesome that you decided to take that into your own hands and I will definitely do my best to make it. Although having this on superbowl sunday probably isnt the best of ideas. I mean i personally could give a shit about football but i do think that for promotional reasons its not the smartest move. I know everyone who goes will be totally happy but I think its important that the drafthouse sees this as an event and not just some gathering of friends. But if its set in stone. fuck it. I'll be there. Cheers.

Yeah I'm too lazy to scroll up actually lol but I think I said we wanted to change it from Superbowl Sunday and she told us the only other days we could change it to were Thursdays and we asked some peeps from out of town and they said that would be worse for them to try to come down to so thats why we said screw it we will just stick to the date....She told us an official ad will be posted next week so hopefully that will help bring more of a crowd as well, Ill post that on here next week when its up btw... Oh and I am looking forward to seeing you soon, smiling smiley

Sorry Super Bowl but NIN > football. I know not everyone feels the same but I love footbal yet I love NIN more so I'm totally fine missing the game. It would have been great to avoid that Sunday but being that the theater wouldn't let us do the screening on a Friday or Saturday that was the only weekend day available. I think we will still have a good turnout!

01/09/10 2:16 PM

Now to get my friend to go with me lol She's my only way back home. The bus would drop me off right where the Target used to be )in front of Jim's) so getting there by myself wouldn't be a problem. Getting back after bus hours though....Hopefully she can go

That Ohgr show was amazing, Ohgr even made a comment on stage giving a big fuck you to their San Antonio promoters, It was really awesome how he still played a 2 hour show and even stuck around to meet EVERY SINGLE PERSON after the show for a meet and greet, I got my DIMD record signed, talked about the return of Vinyl with ohgr and had a lengthy discussion with William Morrison about his American Memory Project the guys were so decent..but getting back on subject, I think what lacks in San Antonio is perhaps some sort of publication that doesn't require people to investigate about good music happening. I know they have that Edge magazine which is laughable. I think it contributes to the stereotype that San Antonio is a mecca for cave-dwelling pot-smoking metal heads, and who can blame them..you guys ever been to a NIN show in San Antonio? =P
What I'm getting at is that San Antonio should spawn something similar to the Austin Chronicle, it hosts an entire section with live music listings regardless of its genre or venue, And still has a palette for page-wide advertisements for shows even if they're outside the Austin area. Publications like the Chronicle build a communication consensus in a city the paper has basically become a staple in Austin and a worthy advertising investment considering the diversity amongst readers, If only I had the money I'd be more than willing to try and get something like that off the ground in San Antonio...I was listening to some of the guys in Hacienda talk on NPR the other day, They're the band from San Antonio that Black Keys singer Dan Auerbach took with him on his solo tour, a great band. They were talking about something similar to what I'm preaching, essentially a lack of a community enthusiasm about local music. They did mention how St. Mary's street (the street that the white rabbit is on) actually has some really great stuff going on musically and I'd definitely like to check it out. so I was watching the gift again last night and watching certainly built up some excitement about watching it on the big screen. sorry bout the essay. cheers
