That Ohgr show was amazing, Ohgr even made a comment on stage giving a big fuck you to their San Antonio promoters, It was really awesome how he still played a 2 hour show and even stuck around to meet EVERY SINGLE PERSON after the show for a meet and greet, I got my DIMD record signed, talked about the return of Vinyl with ohgr and had a lengthy discussion with William Morrison about his American Memory Project the guys were so decent..but getting back on subject, I think what lacks in San Antonio is perhaps some sort of publication that doesn't require people to investigate about good music happening. I know they have that Edge magazine which is laughable. I think it contributes to the stereotype that San Antonio is a mecca for cave-dwelling pot-smoking metal heads, and who can blame them..you guys ever been to a NIN show in San Antonio? =P
What I'm getting at is that San Antonio should spawn something similar to the Austin Chronicle, it hosts an entire section with live music listings regardless of its genre or venue, And still has a palette for page-wide advertisements for shows even if they're outside the Austin area. Publications like the Chronicle build a communication consensus in a city the paper has basically become a staple in Austin and a worthy advertising investment considering the diversity amongst readers, If only I had the money I'd be more than willing to try and get something like that off the ground in San Antonio...I was listening to some of the guys in Hacienda talk on NPR the other day, They're the band from San Antonio that Black Keys singer Dan Auerbach took with him on his solo tour, a great band. They were talking about something similar to what I'm preaching, essentially a lack of a community enthusiasm about local music. They did mention how St. Mary's street (the street that the white rabbit is on) actually has some really great stuff going on musically and I'd definitely like to check it out. so I was watching the gift again last night and watching certainly built up some excitement about watching it on the big screen. sorry bout the essay. cheers
