Lived in Iowa from '94 to '99. Keokuk, Burlington and Cedar Falls. My three years in Cedar Falls are filled with many of my greatest memories.
Go through Iowa all the time on my way to family.
Love that state.

Des Moines area here. I might try to catch both Iowa appearances this time, CR and CB. Des Moines is about 2 hours away from both. Anyone else going to try to catch both shows?

I live in the craptastic town of Charles City (between Waterloo and Mason City). I've only been here since January, and I'm already trying to escape. Small town living is not for me.

But I will definitly be at the Cedar Rapids and Council Bluffs shows. Cedar Rapids will be the 15th time I've seen NIN grinning smiley. I am looking forward to the new "suprises" that Trent said they have planned.

I think I saw it, but it probably got buried under all the BS threads that would get all junked up.

From Iowa...saw my first NIN show in Iowa City in 1994. Marilyn Manson opened for them. Great show. I live in AZ now though.

10/15/08 11:40 PM

I was born in Ames, Iowa, then lived in Marshalltown for a few years. Ended up in nebraska, so I'm not that far away! Can't wait for the November 26th show!

10/16/08 12:38 PM

Any body remember when the last time NIN came to Iowa?

I've only seen them in Moline.

NIN played in Des Moines back in February of 2006. Made the trip back for that one since I'm from Johnston. Not sure if they've been back since then.

I'm in CR, was completely blown away when I saw the posting for the US Cellular show. I can walk there from my apartment. Originally from Chicago, never been able to afford to go to many concerts, so I've only been to one NIN show. Drove back to Tinley Park to see that one.

I am an Iowan now, I suppose. Been "stuck" here 8 1/2 years and will be here until I've got my Masters, which will probably take another 8-10 years since I'm only going to school part time.

Yes, the US Cellular ramp is open. They've had a couple shows and had bid contracts in the legal postings of the Gazette to repair what little damage they had. Surprisingly enough, they didn't have that much. Guess Quaker acted like a sponge for them or something. They are right at the base of the hill, so there is also enough of an incline that they were on the edge of the flood zone. Didn't get as high right there as it did just a few hundred feet downstream at Quaker and the rest of downtown. I would hope they have super filters on all the air systems, as well, considering the smell and bacteria won't be gone, even by November. The flood is part of the reason I was astounded NIN booked here. The Crown Plaza had basement damage that affected the elevators and with the drop in business, local banks wouldn't cash hotel employees' checks: they let their payroll account go in the negative. I guess they promised NIN booking agents that everything would be hunky-dorry by Nov. I just hope it's a good show and they have enough tech to support all the electro-led-computer stage craft I've read about on this tour. I spent $118 on those advance tickets, and with my budget, that's a lot of money and it damn well better be worth it, or US Cellular and the City of Cedar Rapids are going to be getting one nasty letter from me.

10/18/08 10:42 PM

Was that the deal with Crown Plaza? I keep seeing bits on the news previews about it but never ended up catching the story cause I'd always switch the channels to watch Countdown and Rachel on MSNBC. Wonder if that's definately where the boys booked to stay, (or what's the association with the booking comment?) I'd think at some point that would have been one of the better hotels in town....

Ah, upon double checking with real news sources (instead of the friend that originally told me), I find I was wrong. The financial problems for the Crowne started way before the flood, related to their parent company, so the whole elevator thing is peanuts in comparison:

It is the city's ONLY full service downtown hotel (if you don't count the roach residences), is physically attached to the front/side of the US Cellular Center and features the only "presidential" suites in CR. It's where Bushie boy and every big-wig that's ever come through CR stays. It's room rentals are presumed for the artists that the Five Seasons Center books (backstage elevators straight to your room, from what I've heard). That's why my presumption is that's where they'd stay if they were staying. I have no actual evidence, which is why I said "I guess". smiling smiley

The actual hotel entrance pictured in that story is directly under the Center's front facing. The entrance to the center/seating area is to the left of that. Here's a better overall building pic (and more details on the financial woes--if the boys are staying the night, they better be staying somewhere else, from the sound of it):

There's the Clarion out on the southwest side. That used to be a Sheraton and quit paying the franchise fees. Actually a really primo hotel, even if the owner is a bit of a prig (I've met him; he's a sports snob, if such a thing were to exist). I stayed there. It was a nice room with good service, good heater/windows and it wasn't anywhere near one of their executive or luxury suites. I'd go for that one if I were them. Probably a moot point, since they're probably already reserved somewhere, anywhere they wouldn't be expected to be, I'm sure. Eh, off topic anyway. Or are we? Still talking about NIN and Iowa, right?

I asked a question, you answered. That and it's still NIN related as we are speculating if that's where they will stay. smiling smiley
