But there has to be some difference, right? I don't know exactly what it's all about either, entering hour or something...? If not, then what's the point of presales?

now we're getting seriously close to the 24th.smiling bouncing smiley

Ah, you're right. Presale tickets get into the venue ahead of the general public.

I contacted the hostel and managed to change the booking to 8 people. And I've made sure we'll all be settled in the same dorm room.

Can't wait to get there! Woo!

07/16/09 11:25 AM

One fresh new driver coming up! Yes, I passed, and yes, I'm driving to Budapest!

07/16/09 2:06 PM

Congratulations ishtmail

So what's the plan for Budapest?

07/16/09 2:13 PM

The plan now depends on my brother-in-law's plans for the car.

Version 1: If he's in Ljubljana, I suggest we meet with Perchee somewhere in Ljubljana early friday morning, pick up the 3 people in Ljubljana and drive both cars to Zagreb, pick up the rest of you somewhere, and scrap to Budapest.

Version 2: I start from Ljubljana with 5 people (me, my wife and all 3 additional Ljubljana people). Perchee starts from Celje and heads straight for Zagreb (a shorter ride for Perchee than going to Ljubljana first). I drive to Zagreb, where we meet and rearrange the people so that there are 4 in each car. Then head to Budapest.

Version 3: my brother-in-law can also be in Dolenjska on Thursday evening/friday morning... This means a slight complication - Novo mesto is just between Ljubljana and Zagreb, and it would be pointless of me driving to Ljubljana (70km) and then back to Dolenjska and over to Zagreb... In this case, I'd be more keen on Perchee picking up all 3 passengers in Ljubljana and meeting with me and my wife near Novo mesto, after which we head over to Zagreb and then to Budapest.

Exact details will be discussed on-the-fly, next week. I still need to get my licence made (which now takes a few days), and have to get that young driver insurance...

07/16/09 2:32 PM

Congrats! Now that's what i call a fukken win :]

As for the ride, i hope my car will be up for it. It's been acting a bit funny lately but i hope it's only due to heat. If worst thing happens, there's version 4: train from Ljubljana/Celje.

Btw, it takes like 10 minutes to get your (back then pink) license but it's a whole new story if you're getting the new one, you know, the one that looks like an actual ID. Sweet.

Either way YEAH LETS FUKKEN DO THIS!

PS - Am i the only one having dreams of "attending NIN show and meeting random NIN-related but not exactly band members" lately?

no, not dreams YET!!

but!! I'm really excited. When I'm watching a video on youtube I go all

OMGJESUSFUCKINGCHRIST!!! hHEHOLWrpéwjr I'M GONNA SEE THIS IN 3!!-Fucking-D!!!!

it's mandatory to say a big "HI" if you all see me. I'll tell my "details" later winking smiley

07/17/09 5:13 AM

You people are going to take turns driving, right?

Right?

If not, I ain't letting Tina go anywhere.

07/17/09 9:38 AM

Don't worry Nyx, I'll have a couple stout drinks before starting, to get that courage up, keep hands from shaking and whatnot smiling smiley

Today I settled the insurance thing, so I only need to receive the card licence, which should arrive to my address sometime mid next week (I filed for an 'urgent' case, they said it takes 3 days to make the licence that way).

Perchee: hope your car holds... Either case, I'm taking 2 people with me and Caramell and we're definitely driving. I also managed to borrow a Garmin from my boss, so we'll have no trouble finding anything anywhere!

Giggedy giggedy!

07/17/09 12:18 PM

So wait.. if my car wouldn't hold, you'd still go with car and leave me alone on the train? Man, that's just rude tongue sticking out smiley

07/17/09 12:54 PM

Well, hey:
1. car expenses, split to 4 people = cheaper than train tickets.
2. train ride 9 hours versus car ride 5 hours = no brainer
3. the train leaves from Ljubljana at 2 in the morning (no thanks), while the second train, which leaves at 9 in the morning, arrives at almost 6 in the afternoon, which IMHO is too late for a NIN concert.

I really REALLY REALLY don't want to go by train.
Also, I really really REALLY REALLY want to drive smiling smiley smiling smiley

Get your car fixed, goddamn it, and stop complaining! Or maybe someone else can donate his or her car for this (all too important) mission!

07/18/09 1:15 AM

In all seriousness, lately i've been hesitating whether i should be going at all or not (even though i am still superexcited just to think i still have the ticket in my pocket). There are some huge all-at-once milestoning shit going on right now that make look car fixing/train picking decision like a being in a shop and buying pasta that would go best with today's lunch.
I don't want to talk about it yet since it is kind of personal but if you were in my shoes, i bet some if not most of you would drop this trip in a minute.

Even though it drives pretty well on shorter distances (= within our country), there are no finances to "fix" the car at the moment so if i'm going with the car, there is a very small possibility it wouldn't handle all of the trip. But, as i said, that's least of worries i've got right now.

07/18/09 6:45 AM

Sorry to hear you're in a tight spot. I hope everything works out though, in the best possible fashion, and whatever tailspinning you're in right now levels out.

Whatever the case, and whatever you decide to do about the trip, you take care of yourself first. Nine Inch Nails are important, shit, they're right up there with the whole inventing the wheel and the fire, but your well being comes first, so if this trip would in any way mess stuff up even further, drop it (however strange that might sound).

I'm sure we'll figure something out with the getting the people up there situation if the worst thing happens. I can still also take Acerchiata (along with the other two girls from Ljubljana), and we'd have to figure something out for the Zagreb folk...

07/18/09 7:42 AM

The fact is these things will work out (well, one way or another), dealing with most of them for the first time in my life and all off them at once make it (seem) more complicated.
I'll know more on Thursday morning but if all goes well -as it usually does-, we'll be driving North-East on Friday grinning smiley

07/19/09 1:15 AM

So, yesterday I also received my official drivers licence. Adding 'urgent' to my order sure made them work fast: I was there on friday morning, and it arrived on saturday morning...

My brother-in-law will have the car serviced this week and will also settle the long-distance-road-assistance thing at AMZS. Seems like everything is going well.

One slight hiccup:
The car will be in Dolenjska at the time. So, anyone that's coming to Budapest with me will have to get his or her ass to Novo mesto, either by train or by bus, early in the morning.

Here's my suggestion:
Whether or not Perchee decides to go (I sure hope you'll decide to come, dude, it'll be totally sweet to go on a road trip like this), I suggest that everyone from Ljubljana (that's acerchiata, Tinkerbell and her friend) goes to Novo mesto, where I pick them up.

VERSION 1: If Perchee goes with his car, he can go straight from Celje to Zagreb (way faster than through Ljubljana), and we meet in Zagreb somewhere to collect the Zagreb people.

There's a train at 6:33 in the morning going from Ljubljana, and arriving in Novo mesto at 8:33. Google Route tells me we can be in Zagreb in about an hour, so we can meet somewhere in Zagreb at 9:30. So, Acerchiata, Tinkerbell and her friend come by train to Novo mesto, we meet with Perchee, ana and default_me in Zagreb, and head to Budapest.

VERSION 2: If Perchee decides not to come (sniff), we're one car short. If ana or default_me or acerchiata have cars (please say so ASAP), we can still meet in Zagreb as planned and go to Budapest together with 2 cars. Ljubljana folk would still have to come to Novo mesto first. If acerchiata has a car, he can pick up Tina and her friend in Ljubljana and we meet in Novo mesto and go to Zagreb. If ana or default_me have a car, everyone from Ljubljana take the train to Novo mesto and we all meet in Zagreb.

VERSION 3: If perchee decides to go but has no car, and Acerchiata has a car, Acerchiata picks up Tinkerbell and her friend in Ljubljana, they all go to Celje to pick up Perchee. I go to Zagreb to pick up ana and default_me. Acerchiata and the gang can meet us in Zagreb or go straight to Budapest.

VERSION 4: Perchee goes, no car, acerchiata no car, someone from Zagreb has a car: Perchee would have to take a train to Zagreb (6:33 from Celje, 8:34 in Zagreb with one stopover). Acerchiata, Tinkerbell and her friend come to Novo mesto and we all meet in Zagreb.

VERSION 5: If there are no possible additional cars, there is no other way but for some people to go by train... I checked with some car rental services and it's near to impossible to rent a van on such short notice.
So, if this were the case:
There is a train from Zagreb to Budapest Keleti station at 6:40 in the morning, which arrives at 14:14 in the afternoon. You'd have to switch trains TWICE.
We would probably be in Budapest at about that same time. I think Astoria hostel is pretty close to the Keleti station.

Sorry for the (rather lengthy) post. I hope the options are clear.

Perchee, fingers crossed! And do let us know if you're coming atleast a couple days earlier (so I can contact the hostel and change the booking again, if necessary).

07/19/09 3:57 AM

Ishtmail, dude.. We shall be the only males on this trip. Just so you know.. >:] By the way, due to schedules i will only be 100% sure on Thursday morning.

But all in all, great post, good options, though i'm thinking about other possible variations. Such as..
If acerchiata goes with me, it would be great if she comes to Celje on Thursday afternoon/evening, sleeps over and then we go straight to Zagreb in the morning where we pick up ana and default_me (and wait for you, guys) while tinkerbell and her friend.. somehow get to your place. Or if even they can come to Novo Mesto on Thursday afternoon/night and sleep over and then all four of you go straight to ZG or Budapest, it would be even better.
Maybe it's just me but i would prefer going together since you'll be having Garmin. So unless i borrow one from the girls that go along, i'll be driving more or less behind you covering your ass back of your car.
I'll take a look at GoogleEarth for any possible shortcuts or just the route in general.

There's are a few things i can check with a car, like that over-board AMZS support, and there are a few things i have to take care of me, like over-board insurance. Shit, you never know...

07/19/09 4:32 AM

/bows head in shame/
My lack of paying attention - I blame the society.

I checked Google Maps and there aren't any shortcuts. The shortest route from Ljubljana (or Novo mesto for that matter) via Zagreb is about 445 kilometres (from Novo mesto).

I'm not sure it's necessary for us to start THAT early in the morning. If we start from Zagreb at 9:30, we still get to Budapest by 13:00 (or 14:00), which is enough time, I think.
On the other hand, driving early might be easier (cooler weather).
On the third hand, getting to Zagreb at 7 or 8am might prove to be a drivers' nightmare. Ljubljana at that time is living hell to drive through, and Zagreb is considerably bigger.

Opinions, people, please?

07/19/09 4:59 AM

The earlier the better, i say. But you do have a good point. I remember ana telling me about the Zagreb traffic and whatnots so, arriving after 8am sounds "rational". Then again, we don't have to pick up people right IN Zagreb, it can be a bit outside and all we need to do then is go back onto highway and via Budapest. and THEN again, after we check in, i'm sure some of us would prefer to start lining up ASAP (i heard we are expected long early lines) and some of you/us go and grab some take-away food for everyone or we grab take-away food before going in line. After all, if you don't want to be butthurt because you're not in front of [insert certain band member], be in line as soon as possible. That said, this should work in case not many presales were made.

Edit - ana has been contacted.

Traffic in Zagreb is living hell at that hours. Also don't forget the tourists.
For me that is not a problem, I know the roads and have experience with it.

One thing I have to ask is: Ishtmail are you sure you can drive a trip like this?
Don't get me wrong but you are a new driver and I know what that was like.

I would go by car but as I said, I can't go cause my sis will need it.
So I think a trip by train is the best option. There are no worries, no stops...

ana:
Don't worry about me and my driving. I'm not being cocky, but most of my driving lessons were 2-hour drives, so I'm in decent long-distance driving shape. I also don't plan on driving fast or reckless, and I'm supposedly a very smooth and safe driver. My wife wasn't sure about me driving on this trip either, but after riding with me a couple times now, she changed her mind.
Plus, I won't be the only one driving - everyone in our car is a driver, and we'll do most of our driving on highways so if we switch regularly, we should be OK.

Taking the driving lessons at 29 was the best decision I could make, that's for damn sure...

07/19/09 3:15 PM

I know, I was just asking.smiling smiley

One more thing
Acerchiata is coming to Zagreb Thursday night and she is gonna sleep at my place, so there are 3 people going from Zagreb.

07/19/09 3:51 PM

So, let's get a few things straight:
1) half of us is going by train, half of you goes with the car. If you can (and not if Ishtmail allows you), take turns in driving. I believe you guys are awesome drivers like me or even better but six hours for one rookie? I don't know... Sometimes i'm just sceptical by nature.
2)- train leaves 2am from Ljubljana
- i'm going up in Zidani Most at 2.52am (oh hell!)
- in Zagreb at 4.18am when the rest of the gang joins me
- arrival to Budapest 10.58am which is fantastic especially if we're about to wait an hour or two somewhere. If we're early, we'll just grab breakfast and check in to hostel if that's possible without Ishtmail being there. If not, hey the venue is close and we can hope for bumping into NIN cam. Or maybe not.
3) - train to Ljubljana goes at 4.35pm (sweet!)
- arrival to Ljubljana is at 2.12am (or Zidani Most about an hour earlier).
4) the return ticket Ljubljana-Budapest costs 56,60€ or a few euros less if going and leaving from Zidani Most.
5) if that's final plan, i'll leave my car alone and just buy the train ticket ahead. Even if something terribly unplanned happens and i can't come, you guys don't depend on me so this plan seems fail-safe.

I was asked if i know if there will be clean sheets in hostel or do we need to bring anything along. Same goes for possible lockers in our room and towels. We'll see about that in the next few days.

Edit - sorry if this seems like a rant, it wasn't written as one in the first place. I'm just a bit touchy about the coming week and most of it has little to do with the show.

Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 07/19/2009 03:54PM by perchee.

07/19/09 10:35 PM

OK, here's the situation with Astoria hostel:

it has a luggage room.
it (supposedly) has lockers in dorms (bring LOCKS!)
clean sheets - yes, ofcourse
bring a towel (although hostelbooker.com tells me towels are also free at the hostel)
there's no curfew
free wireless internet
safety deposit

So, all in all it seems like a decent place.

I'd highly recommend noone bring anything TOO valuable. After all, we'll only be in Budapest 1 night so what do you even need except some clean clothes, a toothbrush and a towel?

I'll bring my photo camera with me, ofcourse and I assume the rest of you will do the same...

So, what, you guys are now going by train 100%?

07/22/09 8:20 AM

Sweet! Fuckin' win! No wonder your ass and head are upside down!

HAUS WORMING PARTEY!

07/22/09 10:09 AM

any ideas how to meet?
speaking loudly in a public place wouldn't help, it's not really just one language we all speak.
I don't really believe it's this Friday we're talking about.

07/22/09 10:36 AM

Oh Perchee that looks so sweet even without furnitures! smiling smiley

07/22/09 10:49 AM

btw, I went through the thread and read a driving test was passed, and here I see moving in to a new place-congrats to both!

07/22/09 1:15 PM

And that's not all. But thanks.

irenne, i don't think there should be a problem. We hope to start lining up as soon as we check in hostel - in short, we hope to be at the venue at 3pm if not earlier. As for "meeting up", look for group of people talking mostly Slovenian with two tall guys standing out, one being example of a typical geek with extra saliva minus glasses and the other one will be nearly bald with something NIN-ish either on his clothes or on his head. I can't give you other exact clothes description since i don't know what we're really going to wear (lol) but... All i can say is keep your eyes and ears open. And if you talk Serbian, we will hear you and understand you :] The worst case scenario - phone numbers exchange or check one of ours Facebook profiles for "face identication" - though my current one is hardly me.

ishtmail - since you booked the beds, is it possible that we can check in without you since we'll be there a few hours before you guys arrive? I know this sounds a but weird and you're the contact guy, but still... grinning smiley

07/22/09 3:16 PM

Perchee I have to say it looks very nice, congrats smiling smiley
