05/29/11 3:56 AM

hi all, hope everyones doing well

Wraith, sounds liek an interesting job,

So what does everyone else from the consulate do to pay the bills?

05/30/11 1:13 AM

gosh, it's been such a long time since I wandered in these forums, almost forgot how to behave... winking smiley

@phm, I am a supply teacher, so when there's work, I endure a range of kids from the very sweet, hardworking sort, to the vile, lazy, evil little shits who think nothing of telling me to fuck off!!

Good to hear about the job situation, wraith! sounds like a fun job, especially the part about drinking tea! grinning smiley

I had some excellent news this morning; was not best pleased about being woken up at 7am by the wife shouting on the phone. However, as it was a call to australia, I guess she still thinks you have to talk louder...
long story short, she had applied to work as a midwife & has been offered a job!
Visa should take about 3 months to process, then we're clear to go anytime after that! looks like we're aiming for end of the year still, but anyone who follows me on twitter (@azonei) will know I've been talking about it for a while now.
& now it's real! we're really bloody well going!!! eek!!

05/30/11 5:53 AM

Azonei - Thats great news, always had thoughts of going there to get away from this british hell - me i work in a shipyard in Glasgow as a detail design draughtsman on these 2 aircraft carriers that are always getting mentioned

05/30/11 6:02 AM

good news azonei, I'm planning on moving there in six months or so, although I've already got an Australian passport so at least I won't have to go through the visa application process.

05/30/11 7:26 AM

Congrats Azzie! My brother moved to the gold coast years back and absolutely loves in there smiling smiley

05/30/11 7:27 AM

wow, 2 posts in 1 day be me! must be christmas or something! grinning smiley

@somerville: I take it you're Aussie by birth, Aussie parents, or something then? where're you headed down there? I'll be going to Townsville in Northern Queensland, since that's where the hospital that's taking on my wife is located. I know fuck-all about the place, but I'll just be glad to leave this british hell-hole behind me grinning smiley

@phm: we've been talking about leaving here for a few years now, but only in the past year or so decided on australia. & it was only after going to one of those jobs-fairs last summer that we made our minds up. Luckily, with the wife being a midwife, the visa application process is fast-tracked for her, even though I technically have more points on the visa application system... 3 months for her visa vs 3 years for mine = no-brainer! grinning smiley

^ I was born over here but spent a few years there as a kid before moving back to Glasgow when I was six or so, so I qualify through residency. As for where I'll be going, it obviously depends on where I can get work, but with any luck I'll be moving to Perth WA. That was where I lived and I've got a few family friends there, so if the worst comes to the worst I can stay with them till I get on my feet. I've got relatives in Sydney too, so it's not as if I'll be stuck for a place to stay.

And yeah, I'll be glad to leave here too. Not that it's a third-world country, but I live in west dunbartonshire which is an unemployment blackspot at the best of times. Apparently the cost of living in Perth is pretty extortionate, but the average wage/salary is considerably higher than over here, so swings and roundabouts.
