I'm with B13 re: azzie

fijj - OMG!!! I'd offer to take you but it's the first day of computer training tomorrow so I can't. But if you need anything done on Friday or whatever, just let me know. Good luck and *hugs*

ROFL @ azonei's job offer - Go for it! the finger smiley

@ fijjit: OUCH! that sounds horrible ::O Keep us updated and get well soon smiling smiley

09/16/09 4:34 PM

Nope, no warning....just started with a twinge then.. BANG!

She put urgent on the x ray which I find a tad worrying, but that's probably cos I've never had any knee/hip problems before and it happened rather quickly for no apparent reason. She wants me to take time off of work, but that's not an option at the momentsad smiley

Thanks for the offer Ruth, but the bus goes straight to the hospital and mr fij is coming with me....should be fun with me dragging my leg behind me and him limping with his broken toe...hehe

09/16/09 5:54 PM

just a question, fij: have you had any trauma to your knee or hip before?
I only ask because I suffered a knee injury about 20 yrs ago, which required therapy at the time, but in just this past week or so has suddenly flared up again...

but am picturing the two of you, limping through the hospital.. grinning smiley

Off to the hospital I go...and no azzie...I've never had problems with my knee or hip before sad smiley

09/18/09 12:50 AM

hmm, don't know if that's a good thing or not, fij..

at least I know that my knee was gonna give out eventually..
note to self: don't remove rocks from ground with knee... lolz
(I was in TA about 20 yrs ago; on training I had to hit the ground FAST, smacked a rock with my knee, ripped it from the ground in the process, found that the rock was more than half-buried...)

09/18/09 2:53 AM

Ouch!!! That would've hurt. My shoulder hit a rock when I was about 7 years old and it dislocated my collarbone.

Rocks should be banned - seems they're out to get us lol.

*wonders how fijj got on*

09/18/09 9:35 AM

I just had a call from a school in Surrey, wanting me to come in for interview; except it's close to 2hr commute (each way, factoring in traffic)

but it's an excellent opportunity; it's maternity cover, so not likely to be more than 6 months.
i could stay at my parents, then the commute would be closer to 30 mins..

09/18/09 1:57 PM

I'm sure you'll make the right decision fella. Good luck smiling smiley

sounds like an adventure to undertake.. and may have come at a good time for you.. change of scenery and all that. winking smiley and best of all -> its temporary, so no real commitment on your part, eh?

depends alot on how crazy your parents would drive you! grinning smiley

good luck with that decision, azonei smiling smiley

here - it's nearish to Dorking, & if I can get hold of my parents to arrange staying with them, it'd be about a half-hr drive for me..
thats IF I can get hold of my parents; they seem to have gone away for the weekend, and out of mobile network.. :-|

Oh, help!

i have such a dilemma..

A stray cat has begun to hang in our yard! My immediate response is to scoop it up and expand our family (we have a 7 y/o cat) but i have tried this before (adopted a second kitten from a shelter) and it was disasterous!

Apparently, our cat is a ONE cat kind of guy.. and despite us doing everything by the book regarding the introductions and warming period and so forth.. he was absolutely vicious to this poor kitten and it broke my heart that we couldn't keep it. But at the end of the day-- my cat is MY baby and it's HIS home and i'm not willing to traumatize him by forcing another cat in our house.

This said.. my heart just goes out to this stray, who looks young and is so trusting and lovey. i am so torn as to what to do! When winter comes, i cannot stand the fact that he/she will be outside! A neighbor has asked if it was our cat, as she noticed it in her yard as well and was going to take it to the vet's to have it scanned for a possible micro chip, to find its owner. i haven't found out what she learned, or if indeed she was able to do this yet.

i also can't stand the idea of taking it to a shelter, and having it live in that situation, and then pray that a good owner will come along to adopt it.. i have so little faith in people, particularly regarding animal welfare!

This is a dilemma i cannot pretend isn't happening, cannot close my eyes to it and slip into that comfortable cloud of denial that works so well for me otherwise!

Any advice? i need a serious dose of reality, i'm afraid.

Shame you're not over this side of the pond, as I know someone who's looking for a new cat. If you know any friends looking for another cat, thats your best bet, otherwise I'm gonna have to suggest that this cat goes to the welfare sanctuary.

09/20/09 1:26 PM

Oh nov..... my ginger tom was like yrs..... He never took to the stray that I adopted, not that the stray was phased by Diesel at all. He still used to eat his catnip and then try and 'share' his too lol.

The only thing I did in that similar situation was to buy a kennel for my stray. I also bought him a mircrowaveable heated pad thing that would go underneath his bed at night and also the kennel had plastic 'doors' to help try and keep the rain out. But Blackie I think was older and somewhat (sadly) streetwise than this kitten who's come into yard. Neither do I think our winters are as severe as yours.

I don't envy you at all and it would break my heart. You have 2 options as far as I can see it. 1) is what Gladiator has said sad smiley 2) rather than go through the suggested/recommended ways of introducing a new cat to an existing one, just see what happens between them. Without knowing all the measures you took last time (of which there are plenty of them) it's hard to know what else to suggest you try....

Morning all!

09/21/09 4:00 AM

morning, from the comfort of my home office.. :-/

got to the school this morning, greeted by the deputy head, who eyed me with apprehension.. told that I was not needed after all, because my appearance doesn't fit the ethos of the school.

who knew that a pinstripe suit, with grey shirt & tie would not 'fit' a school's ethos?
or perhaps it was the piercings.. maybe I am too 'cool-looking' to be allowed access to a class of catholic schoolgirls... given the reaction I received from some of them when I stepped out of my car, i'm probably safer at home grinning smiley

09/21/09 4:20 AM

lol azzie...that cheered me upgrinning smiley

Nov- put up some lost signs first of all...you never know. If no-one comes forward after a week or so, put up some new home signs...I'm sure your local vets will help with this...good luck!

Just come back from the docs and I've conceded with them and have been signed off for a week. She thinks it's gonna be more like 2-3 weeks I'll be off but to be honest, I'm in too much pain to argue with her. At least I've got some kick ass pain killers (diclofenac and dihydrocodine) so I maybe in pain, but hopefully I'll be too spaced to care.

I'm on bed rest so the doc said no heavy lifting OR vacuuming...and mr fij was there with me so it looks like he's gonna be playing housewife for the week....hehe.

09/21/09 4:40 AM

Shall I bring over a feather duster and an apron for him? ;-) grinning smiley

Seriously tho, I'm real sorry to hear that mate. I know how much you needed to work right now. sad smiley If there's anything I can do, don't hesitate to ask and if I can, I will. But you know that already I hope.

Bed rest tho?!!! That's a tough one. Maybe using yr sofa-bed downstairs as you don't have to negotiate the stairs for the bathroom that way?

Azzie - so what on earth is their dress ethos I wonder?
