Dear Santa.....

Hey all.

I'm trying to get the same wacked-out synth sound you hear at about 01:24 of The Way Out Is Through. Sounds like a lot of LFO'd filters goin'. I'm using Logic right now. It sounds so damn organic, I love it!

Yea, I can't quite figure out that synth sound. But its definitely modulated to hell.

Can any body tell me anything at all about the drums for The Fragile, in particular The 0Big Come Down and Into The Void?

11/10/09 8:46 AM

Yeah, this is intresting. Drums sounds really weird, i dont know the way trent creates them, or what we should do to get some of these "electronic drums"...

11/10/09 10:15 AM

The beat for Into The Void is simple to recreate as it is an easy pattern. But getting the EXACT sound?Fuck me.

I'm doing my own cover of The Fragile & got all the drums & everything down. Sans the final chorus drums.Sounds like it's all toms?

Yeah, that sounds right to me
But The whole album, that Snare sound, that's all I can hear it is so good,it just like, pops real good. Maybe I am crazy

I've been trying to get the ending synth sound during the last minute and a half using reason but I can't find anything that sounds close to it. If anyone knows any synth preset or a synth thats tweakable on reason 4, please let me know

11/17/09 8:47 PM

i forgot to mention the song is closer haha im an idiot

11/20/09 6:58 PM

Anyone know any specific Reaktor ensembles Trent might've used? Especially on Year Zero. I've been playing with Reaktor for a few months, but I don't hear much of Reaktor's stock instruments on YZ. Maybe a little of the SineWave drum machine.

I wanna get the guitar sounds from The Day The World Went Away, live version.
Not the distorted but the long Ebow-like notes.. lovely!!!

01/12/10 2:32 PM

Not really a "sound research" question but well, i was listening to "Break" from Saul, it has a really odd time signature. But wich one?
If anyone could answer my question, how did you find it?
Thanks.

EDIT : It's ok, 130 bpm, verses 6/4, chorus 5/4.

Hi there folks.

I am currently in a quandary. I'm writing a song that I have a very specific idea for so any help you can give would be much appreciated.

What I'm looking for is the odd riff in "The Great Below", it starts at about 44 seconds. I would like to use a patch (in Reason 3.0 rewiring with Cubase) that sounds very similar to this, that kind of hopping up and down the scale kind of sound.

So my questions are these.

A.What is the base synth or sample Trent is using here? I'm inclined to think it's a string sample, but I'm also and idiot when it comes to these things sometimes.

B.Is he running it through a sequencer or is it an actual riff he played and just looped?

C.Is there any real way I can get a similar sound working in Reason?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks.

anybody know how to get the synth sound from the verses of closer? i can't get anything that sounds like that lol any ideas? i'm working with logic and NI plugins

01/23/10 12:14 PM

There's something quite similar in Massive Library, look for lead synths in the database. I don't remeber which is the more similar but an heavy is OK (in the song seems soft due to the volume, but it's quite hard).

Incinerator should be ok.

(What about the outro pulse?!??!?!?!)

I'm looking to recreate the whiny notes from the first verse of Piggy [Nothing Can Stop Me Now], any ideas?

02/03/10 6:47 PM

hi i know no ones asked about this or anything but i thought id say so anyway

i make music myself heavily inspired by trent.
overtime ive learnt a bit here and there and i found out for the slip trent used a program called kontakt by native instruments.

i know this cause i found the samples he used for 'echoplex' 'demon seed' and 'letting you', all with a bit of reverb.

theres a chance he has used this with a bit of tweaking over the years as well but i have no idea i thought id just mention this smiling smiley

another point is that trent is human just like everyone so whatever he has done im sure he has used programs and equipment that we can get our hands on, and everyone knows he uses garageband on mac as well so his processes of his sounds are less farfetched and surreal than i think most people think.

Doesn't he use Logic?

02/04/10 9:12 AM

Yes, he does. I'd like to know since when does everybody know he uses Garageband.

02/04/10 11:12 AM

well he uses garageband as well as. he uses it for organising tracks and simple stuff like that i think being that he posted garageband files of some songs from with teeth and year zero on the website, i just thought most people knew that.

yes! someone answer this

there was a song i did a while back..i don't even remember what i did...but afterwards on the playback..the synth or guitar i used sounded very similar...
i think reverb cranked high..and delay tweaked a certain way is one starting place to make it.
usually you hit a note with reverb..it's loudest when you first hit it..then it trails..well, the way they added delay to the reverb..makes the note quiet when you first hit it..then gets louder and more pronounced until you hit the next note..
radiohead used a similar effect for a good bit of kid A..
i have the song stashed on my pro tools file folder on my hd..if you wanted a sound clip of what i did..i would be happy to send it to you.

It is actually a modified sample from this song. Listen in about 2:50 NinWiki confirms this.

I'm come from china.and I like NIN very much.and I have a problem with their famouse song <<Starfvcker>>

this sound comes about 3:34 in the song. It's a phrenetic lead like a sick cat scream.

anybody know whic synth is this sound come from?I really need it~

tanks very much!!!!

01/28/10 7:31 AM

Im sure you could replicate the sound with almost any standard synth and a few plugins.

01/29/10 11:50 AM

yeah pal, its a... guitar, yeah, passing trough like... 14 different pedals.

Its either that, or its an actual cat being tortured by Trent with like four or five microphones recording it.
