^ Nice! I'd hate to see the pricetag...

Well, I don't own anything else. Well, I take that back I did just buy a house with a huge second building for my studio, but real estate is really cheap where I am. So I own a house and lots of equipment and literally nothing else!

Ha. So true. Luckily I do get to work from my studio all day, but I'm usually playing drums more than synths. ;-)

08/11/09 12:57 PM

Fender 72 Thinline Telecaster
Yamaha LS6
Big Muff

08/14/09 5:35 AM

Hm, not so confident about posting my rig, having seen other member's long lists... so let's keep it that it's my expanding list smiling smiley

- Fender US Standard Stratocaster (1999)
- Yamaha CPX700 (acoustic, 2008)
- Yamaha nylon
- Rivera R55 (needs repairs, alas, bought 2nd hand 1999)
- Samick cheap practice amp (1997?)
- Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi (2000 non-US version, kinda broken)
- Electro-Harmonix Big Muff w/ Wicker (2009)
- Boss OD3 (2005)
- Boss DD5 (borrowed in 2008, waiting for it to be asked back together with an apology for threatening to punch me in the face - alcoholics suck)
- Dunlop Wah (no idea how old, kinda worn&noisy on the pot)
- Pearl Chorus (very old, if you see one of those give 'em a shot!)
- MXR 6-band EQ (handed down by my father)

Ok, so it's not exactly a shortlist anymore, I guess I underestimated myself...
- Yamaha AN1x synth (loopable free EG, great for pads or noises)
- Jomox Xbase09 (analog drummachine, believe Trent uses Jomox - I'm guessing "Echoplex"winking smiley
- Stylophone (2009)
- Colorsound portable theremin (2009)
- Casio ...can't remember model (old-fashioned preset synth, 80ies or so)
- Philips PCM100 (one day I'll find a use for it!)

Right now that's about it. I'm usually asked to play guitar for people, in which case I will most likely run my guitar through selected fx into whatever amp's on stage already. Playing for indie artist I preferred running my guitar through the Boss OD, Wah and Muff into a slightly distorted Marshall amp - and yes, I would switch on both the OD and Muff for solos, and yes, it's a dirty lot of noise.

08/14/09 5:44 AM

Just aside: is it me or is the Muff on its way to become the most popular drive/fuzz/distortion ever or something? I believe the Boss DS1 had acquired a bit of a position in that respect (Vai, Satriani, Cobain, lots of others), but you sure see a lot of guitarists with a Muff these days.

Electro-Harmonix rules! grinning smiley

Hmmm, its up there in the top 5 maybe, but I wouldn't say its the most popular. I think smashing pumpkins really brought them to the mainstream, but the problem is you really need to get them modded to have that sweet big muff tone. The new tone wicker one looks sweet tho, I deffo need to try that out.

As for the most popular, the DS-1 is definately the top. As for second, its either the TS9/8, or the Boss MT-2 (THE must have for the 12 year old metal heads).

08/14/09 1:47 PM

I never really liked DS-1's sound (even tho it was my first pedal). I prefer good ol' EHX Big Muff.

08/15/09 6:33 PM

The DS-2 is alot better imo, but the ds-1 can be pretty badass if you get some sweet mods on it. Same applies to alot of boss pedals really.

08/16/09 6:18 AM

Don't most 12 year olds want a multi-effect or something? I did until I was about 17...

@rhys: just be careful with the tone wicker, it adds a lot of high end which makes it just a wee bit noisy, and if you then switch of the tone filter it might get a bit squeeky, so you might end up avoiding that particular setting. The other three are great, though, so give it a shot.

Shouldn't there be a site listing effect pedals and famous users? Just so we can do a count :p

Quite a bit of its just outright wrong, and its quite outdated, but it's a start.

08/18/09 4:43 AM

Well, they got the color of Randy Rhoads' amps right :p
But you're right, it's a nice idea but they're not quite getting anywhere...
Reminds me of an ad Boss ran years ago featuring three famous guitar parts and the effects supposedly used to create the sound, and it was just plain bollocks. (Steve Vai supposedly used a Boss AutoWah where every other source has him use a Crybaby, stuff like that :|)

08/18/09 11:10 AM

Yup, but you never know if theyve used them in the studio or anything like that. I wouldn't be suprised if they sent him a pedal for free and then said he's used it, since chances are he'll have at least tried it once.

08/18/09 5:51 PM

Just upgraded to Logic 9

The Amp Design and Pedalboard design alone are worth the cash.

Fortunately I didn't have to pay for it.. But I would have...

I have the ds2 and I prefer the big muff, really (or my proco rat). You have grunge and damp sound with a ds2, with a big muff it's more incisive and loud!

I have a Casio CTK-720 keyboard. I'm going to get a refund for it though because there's nothing to do with it. I'm going to try and learn the piano on it, but it pretty much sucks for anything else. I'm liking the Korg microKorg Synthesizer/vocoder, it looks really cool and seems to do what I want for now and will keep me busy for a while. Does anyone have some advice for someone looking to really do something with his gear someday? What to start with and such? Any advice would be great, thanks.

Theres a few more guitars with a couple of amps and a baby grand piano which couldn't be photographed at the time. The photo could do with updating... its old now. sad smiley

I'm mainly based on my MacBook but I use my Windows Laptop for various other plug-ins that aren't available on Mac.

09/09/09 6:35 AM

I've been working on some solo stuff lately, since finding a cool band where I live hasn't panned out. Here's what I'm using:

Recording:
Reason 3.0 for drum tracks (some samples on a few electronic songs)
Fostex MR8-HD 8-track
MXL 990 condenser mic
Tascam stereo condenser mic

Guitars/amps:
Gibson Les Paul Standard
Crestline semi-hollow Telecaster copy (best piece of shit guitar ever)
Fender acoustic
Winfield 30w tube head and 1x12 cab
Winfield 5w tube combo

Basses/amps:
Handbuilt P-bass, ash body (Stewart-Macdonald) Jazz neck (Allparts) DiMarzio pickups
Dean EVO bass
Gallien-Krueger 800RB head
Eden 115XLT cab
Eden 212XLT cab

Drums:
Alesis DM5 Pro electronic kit
Pearl PowerShifter pedal

I'm not a very good drummer, so I program the drum tracks in Reason, then run a stereo cable from the headphone jack on my laptop into my 8-track, and overdub guitars and bass. I haven't had much luck with vocals, but that may come later. A link to the songs I have so far:

All I have is a guitar...well...several guitars. They are, in order of acquisition:

1979 Hohner Acoustic
2004 Squier Stratocaster (Heavily Modified)
2007 Ibanez RG370DX
2003 Schecter C-1 Diamond Series
2009 Deltatone Telecaster Copy (Slightly modified)

This all goes into a Boss SD-1, a Little Big Muff, and a Fender Rumble 15. Yes i use a bass amp because i'm too cheap to buy myself a new guitar amp. I try to get it to sound more electronic by scooping the mids out and it works well enough. but i need a GK pickup and a module to go with it to make the sound i'm looking for. I'm absolutely hopeless at keyboards. They just don't make any sense to me. But guitars, they make perfect sense.

Guitars & Basses:
2005 Cole Clark Mistress
2003 Fender American Dlx Jazz Bass 5-String
2004 Fender American Stratocaster (heavily modified)
2007 Schecter Hellraiser C7

Effects & Accessories:
Far to many to bother listing!

Amplifiers:
I run a small custom amplifier manufacturer so I build all my own amps, so I have quite a large collection haha

Recording Gear:
Computer - Intel 2.8g Quad, 8GB DDR3 Ram, SAS RAID.
Software - Cubase 5, Wavelab 6, a few other things for specialty purposes but they are the main ones I use.
Interface - Older RME card and a few ADAT converters (I am trying to save for one of the new RME M-32AD converters, but don't think I can justify the cost haha)
Mixer - Old faithful Mackie 24.8 (getting a bit old but its still a great console)
Microphones - Mixture of RODE and Shure.
Monitors - KRK & Alesis

I also have a Theremin! and it is impossible to play haha

Roland Juno-G Synth Hooked up to the pc, Old Custom Electric guitar Plugged to the synth, ukulele.

I love my Synth, it's not a big flash $5000 Korg.
But It does more for me than my boyfriend does. tongue sticking out smiley
