I use Live ( version 7 LE, not bothered by the upgrade really) more as a sketch pad, its midi side is not great for a guy like me ( I don't use much software instruments)

What I like: Clip envelopes, timestretch, it's great for live gigs
What I hate: Not really well implemented on the midi side, weird timing, impossible for me to mix with it.

i hear that a lot about ableton live, but it's rarely ever elaborated upon.
what does you mean, specifically? i don't have any problems running midi any of my midi hardware on it.

the only thing i wish for is a midi effect that send out random numbers to cc values or something, but i assume that Max for Live will provide most of that for me.

Hi, I was talking about the lack of nrpn support, the lack of custom program changes ( with name, and such), and the timing drifts occasionally with hardware synths. All those issues dissapear using softsynths, but I use hardware synths mostly.

What do you think about this software? I think it's great. I used Cubase for a while, but this makes look Cubase like a little bitch. I use it for nearly everything, and you can use it for nearly everything. Someone else using it?

hey dude, maybe you could do some kind of troubleshooting for ableton because I cant get that fucker together. It´s pretty unlogical IMHO.

I love Garageband though.

this may sound strange request, but i only have the demo of it.
would anybody be willing to burn the full version 7 to a cd and send it to me?

I have a question about Ableton and Music making Tech' in general: Can I use this to remix vocals only? I hear the original NIN songs and then the remixes have vocals with nothing playing over it. There's no point in the orginal song without the music playing over the chorus; so how do they do it?

Uh... Multitracks?

Hi i'm new here and i have a little problem. i bought a trigger finger from m-audio but i don't know how to make any sound with this device, i install the Ableton Live Lite that brings on the box and i can't make sounds like the video of the trigger finger. I do'nt if is my pc, the audio card or any driver i need... Can anybody help me with this???

03/26/09 2:13 AM

Trigger Finger is a midi controller - that means it doesn't work with sound but with midi signal. You have to put some instrument (such as Impulse in Live) or VSTi (plugin, let's say Battery or something, I think it's actually better to use TF with a virtual sampler, since mapping pads to a synth can be bitch) on a midi track in Live, map pads/knobs/faders to it and then you can actually start working. Good luck!

Live 8 was quietly released today. No Max for Live yet though.

04/04/09 3:08 AM

i'm not buying it until max for live comes out, even though i started making new tracks in the beta.

There is a lot of shit happening with Live this year, the APC40 LOOKS like an awesome unit, I'm hoping it will actually be as cool as it looks.

eh? i guess i should say that i'm not ready to upgrade yet. i got in so late on the beta that i didn't have time to get too deep with it anyway.

just started using A-live today with my new Korg nanoPad, and it works wonders for me trying to get Year Zero playability smiling smiley

I think Ableton Live is tha shit! I started using it a couple of months ago and the whole program was pretty much self explanatory, just got in there and started recording! Works for all kinds of music as well, I got one project that is pretty heavy industrial with much computer and synth effects, and one project that is more of the raw Black Metal kind with a nice rehearsal sound.

I like the clean gui, gives you a good overlook on all the tracks and good tools for mixing. One thing that bothers me though is that the main trax don't have a nice mute button, at least not on the version I'm working with (6) but maybe I just haven't found it yet.

Working with a Line6 Toneport GX, Alesis Control Pad, and a M-Audio keyboard, all works like small little happy clocks against Live grinning smiley

I just bought Ableton 8 Suite. I love using Ableton, and I recommend it to any musician. I've heard that you can control lighting with Ableton Live. Is this true? If so, how?

04/15/09 8:11 PM

as the name implies ableton live shines when used as a live instrument. It's great for laying out song structures as well because you can change parts around quite easily. I use it along with logic.

04/15/09 9:34 PM

11 mins left on my download of the upgrade to Ableton Suite 8. I am excited.

i also ordered the bad ass long sleve shirt

Started on Cubase for compositions and eventually moved on to Logic and mainly ProTools now. But I'd love to give LIVE a spin after seeing couple of the newer Demo videos. Just can't seem to find time to try it out... But I definitely would some day. Is the DEMO version fully functional?

I'm sure this is possible. There's a bunch of MIDI-based lighting systems, out there. Sequencing lighting "phrases" from Ableton, routing to hardware, or lighting software.

Yes, but you can't save projects and export audio.

I have a silly question : I'm using Live for modest live performance, with a Live Set file for each song. What's the sexiest way to go from one file to an other ?

I mean, of course I can use "File/Open", "File/Open Recent", but I'm wondering if there's another way, more suitable, like a MIDI control.

For those who bought Live 8 : is it worth it ?

Maybe try and combine a few of the songs into a single project, if your computer can handle it, or open a couple instances of Live(i think you have to do something in options for the program to allow this).

As for Live 8, I'm pretty happy with the update. There's a few subtle changes that make me happier than the stuff they actually advertised as new. It seems like it uses more CPU than 7, but maybe that's just me.

I just felt in live with Live 8. Can't wait for MAX to come out.
