P.S: .: DEATH TO RECORD LABELS :.

you just clarify this whole thing for me, thanks

Halo 28
Still Haven't Found My Place (Lights in the Sky tour 2008)
The Four Of Us Are Dying (Lights in the Sky Tour 2008)

not that bad but still, not perfect so vote for them if you liked them.

Anyone able to put up some of the raw camera footage on Vimeo? I'd like to take some peaks at it as I wait for the download.

I believe it's already up on youtube now.

Amazing performance (in NJ), I was glad to see my favorite band, at least once. The had an article in the Star Ledger or IDK what newspaper it was that great.

Now I have something to listen to while I finish my BIO project. grinning smiley

Thank you soooooooo much!

Edit: Also, all of you who feel you should be compensated for editing, FU. This footage was given away free to the fanbase with the intent that we would have fun with it. Don't go about charging others for what was given to you for free. If you can't accept that then perhaps you shouldn't be editing this video.

In fact, the entire reason for this scenario in the first place is that this footage cannot be sold -- if someone tried to sell it, 'edited' or not, they'd risk getting sued by Interscope, and rightly so.

And, I suggest the people from 'thisonesonus', or whatever, knock it off -- you just look whiny. It's obvious that the 'first past the post' is just going to fire up the included final cut pro file, and drop the output on to youtube. Your DVD is certainly *not* going to be the only source for the footage, like it or not.

Sheesh.

We are currently working to get a DVD Title, which you can add suggestions for right now. Yes - YOU - can add a suggestion and later vote on your favorites.

Well, on nin.com - we post it so often because people don't read the other forums or the information about it. We're advertising it so all the fans, even the lazy
ones (which I, myself, might even call myself), can contribute and see what's going on.

And this project isn't to intimidate ANYONE. Go download the footage for yourself and make your own edit. Make a separate project. Fine. Do it for yourself.

We're creating this for the fans that can't edit or download it - so they can have it in a cohesive and easy package later on, and hopefully in physical form. I'm not here to be a bitch and have an ego trip. I'm just another fan who wants to help out... if you want to be a part of it and want the reward in the end - sweet, thanks. If not then do what you want.

But don't call us @#$%& assholes who don't care about what you think. I am, after all, reading this thread to see what people are saying and see what peoples' opinions are.

Lol.

No. No. No. No.

Not true at all.

NIN has nothing to do with us. First of all, due to Hippygeek's ostentatious website design skills, he was able to create a code that would automatically log everyone's email from your nin.com profile or ETS profile. It's a simple code (or maybe no so simple) that allows one to find and log information needed for the site to run.

Next - yeah. We might have already had everything ready to go when the stuff was put out, but we might have heard a rumor that something was going to happen. Might have. It wasn't officially from NIN, so don't get your panties in a twist.

Also - the footage that is for download on the nin.com page is NOT from fans. These mysterious shadows were professionals that just happened to be there. WINK WINK WINK *how many fucking winks do I have to insert in here to let you know that they were hired?*

Definitely not a marketing ploy. This is real fan shit. To be cheesy and quite frank, we (the fans - not me) control how this footage is to be used for the future and how it gets delivered to the fans. It's a cool thing that the NIN camp has let us do, to combine creative forces and come up with something for ourselves.

Thanks anyways Trent its the thought that counts.

If you're frustrated by this, I feel bad for you.

You have to be aware that what Trent has just done has way way more gravity than just a gift to his fans. I feel that this resolves the huge disappointment I felt in proxy when he posted about the bullshit they went through over trying to get a production for filming the tour. In fact, this is not even really a gift to the fans, its a gift to himself and everyone who busted their fucking asses every day to put on this tour; the freedom to fully release the work that was done on filming is absolutely epic. I feel this is the most complete documentation method possible for this amazingly brilliant tour. We're getting access to everything, and there is no limit to the productions that will come down from the whole.

Beyond that, I think the simplicity of releasing raw footage into the wild and then being able observe how it comes back from multiple creative influences is quite respectable and is really an excellent evolution in traditional creative process for this sort of a live-show documentation- compare it to open source software development and it is easy to see the benefits. It will live and breathe and simply multiply the value of the documentation for those of us who were able to see it in person and those who were not as fortunate alike. For me, having seen two shows just magnifies my experience of the documentation, it takes me back to the unique fulfillment I experienced taking in all the amazing performances and visuals

Are you kidding me? He gave us fucking 405gb of HD footage. We're probarly the luckiest funbase on the whole world.

Your gift...

The internet is full of surprises these days.
I was contacted by a mysterious, shadowy group of subversives who SOMEHOW managed to film a substantial amount (over 400 GB!) of raw, unedited HD footage from three separate complete shows of our Lights in the Sky tour. Security must have been lacking at these shows because the quality of the footage is excellent.

If any of you could find a LINK to that footage I'll bet some enterprising fans could assemble something pretty cool.

Oh yeah, you didn't hear this from me.

There is about 405gb of HD footage available. It was recorded with multiple consumer HDV cameras during three shows: Victoria 12.05.08, Portland 12.07.08, and Sacramento 12.12.08.

This is raw, unedited, un-color-corrected HD footage. It will be primarily of interest to advanced users, who may wish to attempt to edit it together into something. It could be really interesting to see what creative users can put together using this and other fan-recorded footage. These guys are off to a great start already.

Novice users might not want to download this just yet. If you don't have a fast computer for playing back high definition video, or hundreds of gigabytes of storage available to save it to, this download will probably cause you nothing but problems. If you just want to see some live footage, you might be better off waiting until more advanced users get the footage and turn it into something more digestible for the masses. I'm sure a lot of this stuff will be turning up on YouTube as soon as people get it downloaded.

The footage is available as a free download via bitTorrent. If you don't know what bitTorrent is, please go to this link and read every word of it before you ask anyone on the forums what to do with the torrent files.

As the files are tremendously large, don't expect any instant gratification - the download may take days, even weeks. There are a handful of seeders to start things off. Until we get a large number of seeders, please only download these files right now if you intend to help seed them for a while after you're done. Certain downloaders will get much faster download rates than others, depending on your IP address. This is due to peering relationships our hosting provider has which we're utilizing to get some initial seeds out as fast as possible. If your download is going incredibly slow or not going at all, don't worry, it'll pick up within the next couple days.

Here are the links:

Victoria
Portland
Sacramento

The included README files have some further notes about the footage, which has been conveniently formatted for easy editing and even includes Final Cut Pro sequences with the footage pre-organized for editing.

EDIT: Digg it! http://digg.com/music/NIN_releases_400gb_of_free_HD_concert_footage_via_torrents
Thanks for the advice to wait awhile, I don't have enough space to DL. "Patience young grasshopper, patience."

Umm, Rob, I remember seeing you on stage with a video camera walking backwards as TR sang towards you as y'all both disappeared around the corner, so...Is that footage around for viewing pleasure (did you contribute to the HD shows) or are you saving it for a rainy day? Just wondering, kthnxbye! smiling bouncing smiley

Maybe this is a dumb question/comment... if so, then forgive me.

I think it's cool that the fans at 'thisoneisonus.org' are mixing their own edit with fan-generated footage.

However, given that the 400+GB of footage comes with pre-synced sound, pre-arranged cuts in Final Cut Pro, etc. Why does it seem like no one is discussing just taking those elements and finalizing it into a mix they way it has been arranged? Everyone keeps talking about "I'm going to do my own edit, blah blah..." which is great... but I'd just like to see the mix that was released.

It seems to me that NIN has pretty much released a DVD of three shows, but instead of the final product they released the pieces (legal reasons I'm sure) and we just need to assemble them, then watch and enjoy. Right?

01/08/09 5:55 PM

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but if you're a Comcast customer and you download/seed any of these files other than Sacramento, Comcast will probably jump at your throat. Why?
Because Comcast has a 250 gig bandwidth cap most people don't know about. While none of the files are more than 250 gigs, the smallest (Sacramento) is 112 gigs, and you upload the file while you download it when using a torrent at roughly the same speed so I would estimate at least 224 gigs of bandwidth if you download it, probably more. Then, if you do what you're supposed to and seed it, you'll end up using more bandwidth. Plus there is the normal traffic of your average customer at 2-4 gigs, so we'll call it 228 gigs average, which is probably smaller than what it really is if you torrent already but whatever. So that leaves you with 22 gigs which is more than enough room, if you don't do anything else traffic intensive. But the other two files are over 125 gigs, meaning if you just download and upload them you're already over the cap. On your first offense it looks like they just call you if anything, but do it again and they kill your service for a year.

TL;DR: If you have residential Comcast, only download the Sacramento file (if any).

Somewhere in here [thisoneisonus.org] says that they change the "one dvd thing" now it's going to be a double dvd, one with the fan footage of Las Vegas Show, AND one with the footage provided by nin of those shows.

BTW they didn't realease it "in pieces" is pure raw video of 10 different angles, they need color correction and so, meaning "post-production", the only thing that they did with that footage was mixing them with stereo sound and synchronize the 10 angles, ther's gaps in them an other things that need to be fixed. Is hard work... and the people of [thisoneisonus.org] are doing it for US fans who can't download them and do that kind of editing job.

yeah i'm actually waiting for comcast to fuck with me. they have tried it before and everytime i've said i was leaving and going back to ATT DSL and use Direct TV all of a sudden bam i get mad speeds again. i have the triple pack comcast crap and this time if they do, byebye. since i use to be a network engineer i actually called them one night at like 3AM and started to talk to a real person that knew about the sandvine stuff and the guy was like stunned i knew about it. he more or less admitted to it but that they were going to discontinue using it (load of shit). they already have themselves in a load of legal shit.

Has anyone tested this with Handbrake? No room for a full show here but a four gig chunk would certainly be doable, and I'd like to mess around and see if I can't come up with an mkv (gotta love x264's psycho-visual optimizations and all). No video editing experience though and I don't know whether Handbrake will open these.
