well in terms of quality, anything along the lines of the BYIT dvd (not the blu-ray version obviously) would be great just for home use, but your saying it wont play in a normal dvd player even if its burnt to a standard 4.5gb DVDR?

No, a good high definition (720p?) encode on a DVD would need to be played on a computer. Gooooooo MKVs =)

Personally, I think this may be one of the coolest things released from NIN in quite some time. It's unfortunate that this thread has become tainted with people upset over what these "shady figures" have given to us. Sure, it's unrealistic for everyone to download 405 GB of HD video, but that was never the intent, I'm guessing. I know that as someone with a love for video editing, I'll be getting every single kilobyte, and I'm sure I'll be uploading my work to the video gallery, maybe even a DVD to a torrent site. NIN has become a community. It's like the remixes: not everyone is able to whip up something, but everyone IS able to reap the benefits of TR releasing the multitrack files.

In 2008, Trent gave us a 36-track instrumental album for $5 and a 10-track album for free. At this point, if Rob uploaded a fucking buddy icon, I think a little gratitude would be in order. Trent very easily could have, for instance, released a DVD of just the material from Ghosts and the Slip, and I'm sure more than a few of us would have happily thrown down at least $10 for that.

Over the past three years, Trent has consistently shown that while he is truly an artist who appreciates his fans, he clearly has no potential in financial planning. Between Closure, the Broken movie, Ghosts, The Slip, NIN's consistently-way-cheaper-than-most-major-bands ticket prices, and now this, someone might as well have handed him a bag full of a few million dollars so that he could proceed to set fire to it.

Point of the matter: even if you're not a video editor, even if you're not going to download any of these files, you're still going to benefit, so stop bitching. This truly is a fantastic holiday gift.

Thank you, Trent!

Well said, black_santa!!! Like you said in your first paragraph, we're not all clever enough to edit or whatever, but we will, in the end, get something out of all this. And yes, thank you very much, Mr. Reznor, for all that you have done.

I have the hard drive space now, but no good video editing rig. (When iLife '09 comes out at the end of the month, I'll get it, and maybe try editing this all together on my wife's MacBook.)
You'll need to get an extra hard drive. winking smiley

Trent, I know a few of these people have been ungrateful even after all you've done for us..And I would just like to say, on my behalf, thank you for fucking EVERYTHING...The things you do and give to us are a fan's dream come true. This is so incredible, every time I watched a live DVD of NIN, all I could think was "Fuck...I wish I could say I was there." and now, my dream of that has been realized. Because Portland is one of the shows on this, I will be able to look back on this and say, "Yeah....I was THERE."

Thank you to endless amounts, seriously Trent. You spoil us so much, even when we don't deserve it.

Love you, man.

*** AN EPIC PROJECT... made more EPIC? ******

A proposal to our NIN community

As EPIC as this is.... it could be something even MORE EPIC....

Given all the user based footage that exists out there (some good quality.. some not so good), it's feasible that we could edit together footage for every song, from every show, (not just these 3 or 4) to be put on 1 or 2 BLU-RAY DISCS (after all, this is HD footage, and this show was so visually stunning it deserves to be displayed in a resolution that is befitting of it).

All that we need is for Trent to post links for each show's soundboard recording file. We could then divide the community into several teams each working on ONE song. They would peruse all the HD video footage from all the shows in which that song was played, choose the best footage, and the best audio from among the soundboard recordings, and edit them together. We would then assemble the work of each of these teams into a final product, a DVD/BLU-RAY with over 50 songs !! - a project with the potential to be even more stellar than the "AND ALL THAT COULD HAVE BEEN" DVD. And with a community as huge as ours, we definitely have the resources to do it.

Since, as Trent put it, this will be NIN's last tour of this scope... shouldn't our DVD/BLU-RAY memorialize how truly epic Lights in the Sky was??? If you agree, please show your support.
I support!!! I don't have the technical know-how, but I'm sure there's something I could do to help?

Yeah, I posted that file. I would have split it, but I'm working on the video and I know people want to get involved with this too, so I just uploaded the raw audio.

01/10/09 4:59 AM

It's all fantastic but I didn't think the 3 shows would be so identic. Of course i know there's always similarities in different shows of a same tour, but here it's really exactly the same shows. I can't even recognize one show from another (for the audio, i don't have the video except from Victoria)

Anyway this is still great work, you're all amazing, & I'm looking forward to see what's next =)

Speaking of what's next, can anyone working on the raw footages tell us what songs there's going to be in next parts??

I'm just sitting back here laughing at all this talk of HD this HD that like some people are fucking George Lucas. Just get the fucking thing out there jesus. You can make your perfect copy whilst you're masturbating with your codecs later. No one cares about HD format unless you're a pristine wanker, in which case, you should move away from your computer now and throw it against a wall. As long as whatever format is watchable, i'm sure no one really gives a flying fuck unless you have high end equipment in which you should know what you're fucking doing anyway. Using 1 program to assemble such a file is a bad idea. You should consider demultiplexing the video and audio, even touching up the audio with a fucking separate audio program (e.g. Cubase or Logic). If you want a lossless copy, have fun with a bunch of dual layer discs for that file size, let alone the time if you don't have the processing power. Whilst alot of people don't really appreciate xvid/avi formats, to be honest this is best suited for some because of the high compression/quality rate if you know what you're doing. It also means it would be more accessible to more people. As far as your HD is concerned, generally speaking the file sizes are huge, not enough people have the bandwidth to get it in a reasonable time frame, let alone, the download rates (gee wonder why studios make this format). Some people who want this do not live in Obamaville.

Since there's 31 songs in all of the concerts, and three parts for each of the camera angles (If remember right) I think it's going to be like +-10 songs for each part, so then the next part would include these:

11. The Warning
12. Vessel
13. 21 Ghosts III
14. 28 Ghosts IV
15. 19 Ghosts III
16. Piggy
17. The Greater Good
18. Pinion
19. Wish
20. Terrible Lie

I'm just And if you don't count Pinion as one song, then after Terrible Lie, there is Survivalism. But we'll see what's in it! smiling smiley Can't wait to hear them.

Sorry for the flooding...

Here's Sacramento part 1 audio in mp3 (320kbps) and in separated files. It has the same 10 songs like the other concerts have. This is made from the wav file extracted by JessicaSarahS.

Download it here: [www.mediafire.com]

......Sure, I agree.
I can't read HD, i haven't got any Blue-ray reader and my old computer can't support anything too hightech.
Of course I will have to wait for a non-HD, with a lot less quality video and sound,etc...

But don't U think you could be a little more polite or kind...?
I'm sure all the people here working on this footage are aware that some of us wants HD and others, just a basic DVD format.
And I'm sure all of us will finally gets satisfied.

I was also a bit bitter, through no one's fault but my own for not realising that it's Victoria, BC not Victoria, Australia. I'm sure many here in Australia made that fuck up or are somewhat smarter than myself.

I don't think you're understanding the purpose of having the lossless copy for the PC users. You always want to START from the best copy possible and render out to the "final product" from it. So for the PC users, we have to take the QT HDV and without mucking it up, get it into a format we can start from. Then the last step is to render it out to something like DVD resolution... which will look better if you start from the best possible source. Which to me is important, and I'm guessing it's also important to a lot of other people here too. If the editors are just sloppily going out and releasing any old crap as a final render, then we're going to have another group of people bitching about that... "why's this look like crap, you started with HD, bla bla, wah wah".

It's been pointed out that it only takes around 15 min per file to demux and go from there. As PC ppl finish getting each file, they can get it demuxed and ready to go well before they finish downloading the rest of the files.

01/10/09 6:53 AM

Don't tell me what I do and don't understand. I perfectly well understand the point of maintaining a lossless copy. Sitting and wanking with it is another story. Have fun with a PC working with QT HDV. That's all i'm saying.

I just find it annoying that instead of going from a huge file to a rather reasonable one for others, there's all this talk of maintaing a high end format, that honestly, even at the end of it, unless you have the equipment to enjoy it, you can't or won't notice it. It was something similiar to what even TR said, about, the advancement of technology and that it's created more problems just as much as more enjoyment. It's great if you can afford the 7.1 channel surround system and HDTV, if you don't have these rather expensive things, you miss out. For this reason, I do not like Blu-Ray already, whilst I appreciate the file size that a disc can hold, even at the end of it, you can't appreciate it unless you have the hardware. Honestly, bring back BETA tapes and VHS. Hey even DVD is ok, but anything more is just getting greedy and to be honest, ridiculous.

Look at it from this way, TR has said that he's cutting back his lights and shows because of the problems it can create. This is the way I view Blu-Ray now. It's great for a while, but after it, it can create more problems than it's worth. I got into video editing for ages when I had a PC, not so much now on a Mac because the capture hardware is fricken expensive, so I know all about codecs, demuxing and editing with various programs to get the best possible sound/visuals.

Another prospect is that TR posted the files for people to enjoy, not to spend months on working a new DVD/Blu-Ray disc for. I'm sure they'll be someone out there to maintain an awesome DVD/xvid/avi type work for the 3 shows, it's just funny that people are interested more in the preservation of quality than the honest reliability of it. It's not all that it's cracked up to be. But that's my opinion, which i'm entitled to.

I'm not trying to smash anyones hopes or dreams by working with these files, I think some people just tend to live in a dream land at points, and lose sight of the actual task at hand.

By all means, have fun with the files, after all, I am rather jealous that it is fucking huge, I do not have the HDD space, let alone the power to edit any of those files.

Have fun!

P.S. I think it's fantastic that people are already posting the audio in WAV/MP3 formats, i'm surprised anyone hasn't asked for FLAC. LOL.

Thanks a lot for this, quite possibly the most generous thing I've ever heard of any artist doing. Anyway, I'm sure that even my limited experience of video editing will allow me to have a lot of fun with this, even though I'll have at least a week to wait before I have the files. It'll also mean that I can see what the shows were like while I'm waiting for the next Glasgow show to be announced.

Yep, but like it was said before, the european leg of the tour won't be like the US one.
So we won't have any unbelievable light/screen show, too bad...

But this gift sure is a fantastic way to look at what we won't have...I'm seeing this as a consolation prize!!

I'm glad the lights have been canned to be honest. Whilst they were great visually, it sort of became overwhelming at points. It will be good to see some of the first concerts here in Australia, they're coming to my hometown Adelaide which they haven't been to since 2000 at the Big Day Out! Bonython Park is a fantastic venue!

is there any video material to download yet ?

As fucking awesome as all of this and as we know how unselfish TR and Co. are I am so willing to purchase this DVD edited and in copy. I haven't got the skills or means to do this and a physical copy like The Slip would be awesome to contribute cashola to TR.

Lets hope if this doesn't happen I can go to This Ones on Us and figure it out.
I need a burner for Video I think. I have no patience.
