my problem is that i cant edit the damn thing. i have no access to FCP even if i borrow and an apple computer, i'd have to get that program installed. and this technique ya'll been sharing is Not working out with Adobe Premiere.

And i don't have Vimeo Plus. would anyone be generous even to upgrade me?

What's working with the above process?

what do you mean?
this demuxing stuff isnt working with Premiere. i haven't slept all that much but damn my mind cant be THAT wired on coffee that im screwing it. ive done the process 10 times and it still doesn't work.
the only thing that's working is me converting to Avi and uploading to Vimeo under a new account since i dont have Plus. i tried youtube that goes nowhere without separating the songs from the whole.

nope, ive tried those containers.

Hm. That doesn't bode well for me then. I hope to use the same process/Premiere to do my edits.

About editing in Premiere:

I haven't got enough downloaded to even begin to try it yet, but I looked at the forum Mike was talking about earlier when he posted this solution and if you check here there's apparently a sync problem, so have a read over this if that's what you're having problems with. Hope this helps.

How much of the torrent has downloaded? Each video needs at least a few of the first blocks to open in QT.

any suggestions?
i could go with MU but do ya'll really want another video download?

Yes please!!! of the stuff that has been released your victoria cam1-1 is my favorite, can watch it on my xbox 360 on the big screen. I saw the show in Portland but was not able to have my wife go with me. She was able to watch your first clip with the sound cranked (amazing!!!) and get to experience a little of the show. I have watched it probably 10 times, I love it!!! Thanks for the work so far and I hope to see more!!!

I dont know if anyone talked about it, but Tmpgenc Mpeg Editor is able to convert the Avanti's mpeg file to common mpeg and remux it with wav, workspretty well

01/11/09 6:27 PM

For everyone wondering about "mastering" the audio...don't bother. It may sound alright for a live recording, but it is not in multi-track format which leads me to believe that the audio will be replaced later down the road with better source audio provided by....someone else.

hmm thats funny cause your comment here is EXACTLY what I was saying.
For everyone to tell the ones planning to do a real edit that they first must make copies for everyone else and THEN get to work - why?

I just thought the attitude in some posts were getting pretty demanding to the point of even trying to get NIN involved in making this happen.
Even though quoted above was apparently talking about me, I was saying the SAME thing talking about those posters.

no need to get all excited. It was just a little commentary.

Youre right, theres no point. Just HQ footage leaked to the public. But dont tell thost that CAN get it they must do what you want them to do first just because you cant.
I was just surprised at how much of that I saw on here.

first non-elitest thing i've read out of this entire thread, apart from the release of the footage. i wish more people had this attitude.

whose being elitest? I was just commenting on the demanding, sense of entitlement, nature some fans have while talking to those that CAN get this footage.

Sheesh.
sorry to have offended anyone.

why when I write "elitest" in its proper spelling, it shows up as "@#$%&"??
I must have missed some NIN board 101 classes. winking smiley

I didn't see anybody asking for regular quality edit before HD...
Personally I don't give a shit if a HD edit is done even a month before i can put my hand on something i can properly see, as long as I can have it!

I really dont get the people asking for smaller copies of this stuff. I think you are all really missing the point. If you want smaller copies, then get the footage and make one. If you want to get something accomplished, go for it and get it done.

I think its a shame that everyones just gonna get the footage and then put crappy copies of it all over the internet.
But....whatever. Its what everyone seems to do with everything else.
You can all watch it on your iphones.

Didn't U realized that not everyone can afford to download 400GB of HD footages or even can't play HD because of a lack of equipment...I'm in this case!!

So the only hope for me to enjoy this is to wait for "smaller crappy copies", as you said...
I don't care if I missed the point, I didn't even know there had to be a fucking point in this except enjoying good music and let people getting involved in a Nine Inch nails project.
I really don't think Reznor would come and say "guys, I gave you fucking HD and you just did crap with this, ripping audio and converting it to .avi and all!!!! That's not the point!!!"

So please, let us "non-equipped" fans enjoy good NIN music, that's all I ask...

I couldn't agree more. As to what the original post said about "missing the point," I think that's a little rough. Trent put this stuff out so fans could enjoy it. Obviously, everyone prefers better quality material, but those of you with HD capability should be able to understand that those of us with simpler computers want to see the footage too. Also, most users don't have the ability to download these suckers to make their own (smaller) copies, so it's kinda necessary that they ask.

.

again, Im sorry to have offended.

Wow, I thought I was pretty tame compared to most stuff I read on this board.
My point was, they werent just ASKING, they were demanding. If you werent demanding, then I wasnt referring to you (not YOU you, just anyone you).
Get it?

I mean the people saying stuff like THIS:
"You're great Trent, but you're forgetting about a vast majority of your fans here...this footage is really useless to many of us!!!

(sense of entitlement)(need for INSTANT satisfaction)

I think "youre forgetting about a vast majority of fans" is a little ROUGH.
On the contrary, I think Trent had just about each and every fan in his mind with this.

I dont think the "point" (again) was to drop a video of LITS in each and every billionth fans mailbox over the holidays. The POINT was to get the footage out there, and many people (who could) would get it and DO WHATEVER and share it with the fans. There seems to be a "hopeful intension" some good quality video work will be done with the footage to give the show some justice and give people something along the lines of what Trent would have LIKED to have done.
So it wasnt even so much about a crappy quality as much as it was me saying "geeze people, be patient."

you mean "mixing"? You would really only need a 2 trk for "mastering" it.
Also, have no idea if its been mastered. From what little Ive heard, Im guessing its the mix from the show- I could be wrong but I dont think it was mixed like a proper live DVD would be. Not that I care and as I said before, if Trent found time to mix it in this short time, and do ALL that would likely mean, while taking a little break, and preparing for a completely different show come february, well, Im thinking there must be two Trents. winking smiley

But audio being replaced down the road. interesting idea. But then why wouldnt he have just completed the project and leaked it all out in a more completed form?

01/11/09 7:18 PM

Regarding this torrent thing. Im getting the vids but Im a little new to this. I have uTorrent. Anyway, how do I not only get the vids but contribute to everyone getting them the fastest. I mean, Ive got a cap on my upload speed cause I cant TOTALLY tie up the internet connection here, but is it just basically as long as were all trying to get the same pieces (files) rather than each person trying to get a different camera.

Sorry, as I said, Im new to the Torrent thing.
I just want to help make this as efficient for everyone and do it right.

I used a "mpg" container and have had success editing in premier. I had quite a bit of trouble demuxing the sacramento cam1-2 video. I finally found success skipping the Avanti gui and using ffmpeg directly from the command line, then continuing with the already outlined process. In case anyone has trouble with Avanti here are the command line arguments I used to demux the video stream

"C:\YOUR PATH TO FFMPEG\ffmpeg.exe" -i "C:\PATH TO NIN INPUT FILE" -vcodec copy -f mpeg2video "C:\PATH TO OUTPUT FILE" -an

I just watched the first Portland show (which I was at) Cam1-1..

Amazing.. I can't believe the quality.. I love HD! I used MPlayer on my Vista HTPC box and had no issues playing the .MOV file, video and audio.. although I cannot fast forward/skip.. but I plan on re-authoring it into a STANDARD FORMAT (*curses dumb Mac boys*)..

In the future.. how about you guys encode in a format that's supported by all 3 major platforms.. you know, like MPEG? or any other number of standardized formats! Instead of a crApple only FCP format. winking smiley *nudge* (but hey, beggars can't be choosy, right?)

Thanks for the video.. truly amazing.

The audio sounds ok, but it is missing a certain balance. The Ghosts section is a little quiet, crowd noise is a little too high, instruments just not cutting through the mix, and some of the other songs sound a bit to distant.

Maybe I am getting old and just want everything louder?

No, you're right... I skipped over most of the garbage in this thread trying to pull out the good information, like how to proceed once I've got the files. There are a lot of stupid posts here, and now that i've gone back and looked, I see what you are talking about. I think maybe we should start a new thread to cover editing tips and ideas, and get away from the weepy fanboys so that we can get something productive done.

I can understand them wanting a rip so that they can see it as soon as possible, since if I was in their position, I would too... I've been lucky enough to have the bandwidth, drive space, and tools to handle the raw footage.
