which of the three has the best overall sound and vocal quality?

It's a good question. I've seen people suggest Portland is the best but then I think others disagree. It may well come down to personal preference or just not being too fussy. For example, "In This Twilight/Zero Sum" imho sounds better in Victoria than it did in Sacramento purely because the crowd sounds louder at Victoria. Not sure if that was due to crowd size or the venue or what, but it just sounds more epic in Victoria.. and it's an incredible ending... so the louder the cheers the better imho. But that is just my personal opinion and others may disagree. Perhaps a final DVD release will mix different tracks from the different gigs to produce "a best of" final set. Who knows. I'm just happy with what we've got already. smiling smiley

There are small differences in audio and performance. For example, I've been listening to Sacramento and Portland and am now almost completing Portland download so I can start editing. I've done some of my own audio mixing to try and improve the audio a tad, but since it's just on stereo file, the differences in instrument volume can't really be affected all that much, for instance. In Sacramento, both the lead guitar and bass seem to be too low. On the other hand, in Portland, I feel Trent's lead vox are just a tad too low. And in both of them the background vox should be higher at some songs IMO. And yeah, when I say these things it doesn't automatically mean every song is like that, but in some the "problems" are attenuated.

Then there's performance... and that's a whole different ordeal. Some of the guitar work I like better in Portland, some in Sacramento. Some parts of of some songs with Trent singing I like the improvised notes in Sacramento better. Oh, and Josh Freese's drumming at the end of Survivalism is much nicer in Sacramento with those nice tom fills.

I'm still wrestling with the question of if I should try to replace for the Portland picture edits the songs in which I like the Sacramento performance better.. or just go with the original songs of that concert. Needless to say, there also might be some sync issues since they're not (luckily) machines. Well, except maybe for Freese, but he's a machine in a good way. grinning smiley

And the completed downloads to seeders ratio on Victoria keeps getting worse. 170 completed, 23 seeders? I hate to sound like a broken record, but WTF guys? Cracked program torrents have better ratios than this. Is this community really no better, or worse, than the warez scene? I would hope not, but the numbers say otherwise. I would especially hope not, considering where the gift came from. I would figure that would give people a little motivation to share as much as they have taken. Since after all, TR and company didn't have to do this at all. I'm sorry, but I'm just a little bitter and disappointed in the community here.

I know what you mean. I started dowloading the Victoria torrent when they were originally posted, and I'm still not done with it. I think some people may not understand how torrents are supposed to work. Part of it can also be because some of us a bandwidth cap of 250 gigs a month. If I were to try to get the Victoria torrent completed in a month, I would have to worry because I would end up downloading 125 gigs and uploading 125 gigs. That's why it sucks to be a Comcast customer. Are the other torrents going this slow?

i forgot to mention, half of SAC5-1 goes black after the start of the frail. and when i said it gets shakey , i meant during the wild parts the video man is too zoomed in and all over the place.

cmdavis- i am having great down/up load speeds for all 3 at the same time. sorry.

01/21/09 3:12 PM

That's cool. I wouldn't want to download them too fast, Comcast might fucking cut me off! The videos you've uploaded to vimeo look really good by the way.

Anyone who wants to get the DVD fast, just download any 1 file, and continue to seed it. That's all you need to do to make it go faster.

If you want to do more, get a copy of any of these files to me, I'll get them to at least 7 seeders and 2 ftp sites.

I'm working with a crew of professional video artists, when we get the files, we're all over it.

We will be producing video mixes of each of the 3 shows, and I for one intend to play with the 'alternate camera angle' feature you can put on dvds.

When there is something ready, permavine by post? ftp? bittorrent again? What do you want to see from this?

Just download one piece and keep seeding it. When everyone seeds, everyone speeds.

email me at drglenn "at" dr.com if you want to flame me or help me or spam me or whatever.

People are asked to seed for 3 weeks now...
I think they just don't understand how it works, and since earlive beg for it every fucking day, I don't think you'll be more successful...

I've also noticed Victoria is performing very poorly, a lot more so than Sacramento. I wondered if it was due to the fact Victoria was the first torrent in the list and Sacramento is the last. It's a shame because imho Victoria has the best version of "In This Twilight" which is the best part of the gig for me, so I really want that particular performance.. but last night I barely went over 3kb/sec. Ouch.

Theinternetisserious beg for it everyday, not earlive, my mistake!!
But it seems to be the same shit for everyone so it doesn't matters anyway...
If only I was able to download it and help you guys...

Yeah, we have a lot of leechers with these torrents. I suppose some don't understand that for a torrent to be successful people need to share on a 1:1 ratio, or more if there feeling extra generous. It benefits everyone. I just wish Comcast weren't a bunch of assholes with their bandwidth cap. People using this service really have to keep that in mind. 250 gigs go fast when it comes to torrents like these.

whats the point of downloading all of this? It is going to take weeks or months because people wont seed. The footage has issues opening outside of FCP and has issues being demuxed and hardly anyone has offered up torrents of SD footage.

Really now...Why bother?

I'll seed Victoria for 2-3 weeks once it's complete. I'm @ 95% right now. Once this is complete I'll throw together an SD-Widescreen Multi-Cam DVD torrent. Expect to see that in the next week or so. I haven't had any issues demuxing however?

The best show was probably Victoria because it had the most energy but his voice was shot because he couldn't scream.

When he sings low, it's great, but at one point he's like "HEAARRGGGYYY YEEEWW!" in Victoria.

Portland had no atmosphere whatsoever-Sacramento was #2 because his voice was good.

I know the exact moment you mean, when compared to the other two it's noticable but probably not that big a deal. I too want Victoria because of the atmopshere.

Is it possible that someone could, or may be in the process of, creating mp3s from these files? I loved the fact that And All That Could Have Been was available in both DVD and CD form, and it would be great if these performances could be alternately released the same way. Beside You in Time, an AMAZING DVD in my opinion, failed to do that. Also, it would be doing us, less technologically fortunate fans a big favor, offering the music in a MUCH smaller file size for us to enjoy until the This One Is On Us production is released. If anyone knows anyone that has or is in the process of doing this, please let me know!!!

hey can eneyone post links to the vic show from other camera angles please!!

this is totally off topic but, during survivalism (sacramento is my video), there's a bathroom scene where it pictures a sink. Later on during the song, you see a couple go "at it" right on the sink. I'm just wondering. DID THAT ACTUALLY HAPPEN? Did NIN plant hidden cameras and captured that on film? that's both embarrassing and funny.

does anybody know them?

Dude, if you had just taken 5 or 10 minutes of your time to look after links in this thread, you knew that mp3s are available for at least 2 weeks!!!Since you're a no-tech fan like myself, you could at least afford it, especially considering the time and energy people are using to satisfy all of us with great NIN stuff...

here's the link to another thread, where you can find all the work (audio & video) that have been done since the release of the footage!...your welcome winking smiley

no one knows them....but they go to every show and end up getting it on in the bathroom during survivalism...every time.

they must be horny, punctual, exhibitionists.
