ok i just thought of the best fuking idea that will make editing this shit sooooooooooo much fuking easier! FUK! awesome idea, ok so i read Cheese is using Sony veags, as if happens so am I, sooo if we could get DJGamer to use Sony Vegas aswell, much prefered coz there are much more rendering options a capabilites....anyway anyway if we all use Sony Vegas, rather then having to upload and waste bandwidth which will be a problem for me, and rather than sending in mail to see progress and final edits, what if we all call the files Exactly the same name and in the same directories so we would just need to send the project file which is less the 1mb, and sony will open up the files on your computer.....eh?

I'm not using Sony fucking Vegas!

I've finally got some legally-attained software on my computer to do this shit with and I'm going to fucking USE IT!!

I'm pretty sure I couldn't afford to buy Sony Vegas at this point and I'm much more experienced with using Premiere anyway.

so when do we start to organise things like a good start is, what style we have chosen to edit in, ummmmm how we are recieving all the footage, who does what in the setlits, and i havnt had much time to read all the posts but i kinda gathered we are doing a bonus disc, is the main setlist on one disc or 2? what will be on the bonus disc, btw this ausio source we have, is it from the sound board?

If only we were so lucky-if Physical is ever put out by Rob that might have a soundboard mix although I'm not sure how we'd fit that into the soundtrack.

I checked on Amazon.com and Vegas costs like $50-$70 depending on which package you get. I'm not getting very many hours from work and besides I'd rather not have to learn new software anyway.

Also-a thought that just occurred to me. You're in Sydney right (unless it's some place in the 'States that just happens to share the name)? That would mean we'd have to send the discs with the footage/edits Internationally to you-I hope Ascension can afford that-or you for that matter since you'd have to send out your edits. It'd probably still be faster than downloading, anyway.

Closure was a video that had concert footage sandwiched between backstage stuff, interviews with fans, some videos of people who are like outraged at NIN or something on the TV. The concert videos ranged from traditional to doing some unusual things like having TV scan lines or having the audio change between cuts. That's why I think it could be set up as a "director's cut" along with a "concert experience".

However, it greatly depends on just how much extra stuff we have that could be inserted-it could be so little (I've heard that cameras weren't allowed to be used in certain places or something) that we may as well just separate it out into a short documentary as an extra feature. We could still have some alternate edits in Closure-style though.

NIN will probably be on a disc by itself-their set list was:

"Now I'm Nothing"
"Terrible Lie"
"Discipline"
"March Of The Pigs"
"The Frail"
"The Wretched"
"Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now)"
"The Becoming"
"Burn"
"Gave Up"
"Echoplex"
"The Fragile"
"The Way Out Is Through"
"Wish"
"Survivalism"
"Physical"
"The Hand That Feeds"
"Head Like A Hole"
"Hurt"

OK guys I had a bad day at work so if this sounds rash I am sorry! Here it goes:

I am editing the whole thing myself, but I thought that was the plan. Dj do an edit and me do an edit and people can choose which one they like. I liked that idea! I have been playing around with the 1st show a lot and im going to stray out of the "Closure style" as we have been calling it. I think the concept has been distorted to something completely different from what I was originally planning on. Im mainly going to make a bad ass intro like closure and the concert will be intact and at the end I will edit any backstage shit I get into it. Although from what I have gotten so far and seen from other people the only backstage footage seems to be onstage footage! So hopefully we get a little something else too. I am planning on authoring the dvd with a menu and scene selection and what not. I probably will end up puting SS and JA on a 2nd disc for quality reasons. I will submit what I do to Ascension and you guys can do with it what you want. I will have a iso version and an xvid version via torrent. I will be mailing out my 46gb of footage of all 3 bands on my next day off sometime in the middle of the week.

Edited cuz Im not that pissed! Sorry! Just got home from one of those days.

Feel free to bitch at me if you want LOL!

Let's all settle down for a second.
Bringing Goldy into the mix was just to help the project by allowing the 3 of you to split the work. I thought we were all going to meet in a chat and discuss the details. I still think that should happen.

NOTHING HAS CHANGED SINCE THE LAST TIME WE WERE ALL IN THE CHAT. WE SHOULD MEET AGAIN TO DISCUS THIS.

No worries. I'll find out when everyone is available and figure out the best medium for the chat.

One thing that I think we should all keep in mind is that though everyone is anxious to get to work or get a copy, there is NO deadline for the finished project because we haven't set one. Things will take as long as they have to and it is better not to rush anything.

I didnt mean to exclude you from the project at all goldy. I personally never heard anything out of you untill after the show and then all you were sayin was lets get organized and this is how you think things should be ran. We have been collaborating on this for a long time before the concert. I dont know when I will be free for the chat, the concert was the last time I have had any free time to myself between work, tattooing and family coming up for vacation. Night always works for me I always check dj's chat while Im online. Usually between 9pm to 4am central time. I do have wed and friday off but there is no telling what Ill be dragged into those days LOL.

Pretty much like I said before.... I am going to be editing all 3 sets myself once I start getting footage. Im not going to rush through anything, thats just my natural speed on video editing. The few people that I have showed what I have done to the 1st show think its one of the best editing jobs they have seen on a single concert. I will send the whole thing or what ever part you guys think would benifet the project to Ascension when Im done.

Ascension - How much footage have you recieved? I will burn mine to dvd-r's and diablo75's and get them sent out to you one one of my next days off! Im excited to get started especially my intro but I have to watch all of it from every angle to decide what clips and what audio Im using.

Ok off the work I go.

06/08/09 11:41 PM

yeah fair enough, i didnt mean to rush in and start taking over, I just wanted to know how we were gunna do this as in you guys show ME how its going to be done, sorry.

That is not how we are going to get footage. The idea is to get people to contribute. DJGamer has already contacted him requesting his footage.

Speaking of which... Where the hell is DJGAMER? He seems to be M.I.A.

I have some good onstage footage from Diablo 75! I hope we get a few more shots though! My main concern is that I get the end of Now Im nothing with an uncut flow into terrible lie. I think Ascension said he has that though. I recieved a tape to run off on my pc but I couldnt run it off cuz its in HD and my camera is not sad smiley I have no clue where DJ went to by the way.

I have the first 23 minutes of uncut NIN. I'm missing a few songs, and a few seconds of the starts of others.

Cheeseprocedure, I'd like to wait until next week before I send the footage. At this point I'd rather just send it all at once.

06/11/09 3:36 PM

Sorry about being M.I.A. The Sims 3 is a really addictive game-and I don't think there are any Sims 3 rehab facilities in my area-I actually lost a whole night's sleep because of it-I wasn't even playing the game the whole time I just played it until really late and couldn't get to sleep afterwards for some reason. O.o

I wasn't aware that Cheese wanted to do a whole edit of the show-that sort of changes the formula of things. If Goldy remains involved I would perhaps suggest that we attempt to split editing duties on an alternate cut of the show. If Cheese is going to be doing the thing "Regular-style" than I'm not sure what reason there would be to have an alternate edit but I would like to take a shot at editing some things.

I'm wanting to send my footage out but I'm not sure when I'll find the time to assemble everything. Also, I need to know-does Sony Vegas allow you to take standard footage and basically do a reverse pan-and-scan process on it?

What I did with "Ted, Just Admit It" was I imported the footage, which was at its original standard aspect ratio into a widescreen project. Then I resized the video to around 140% (I think) This cuts off parts of the top and bottom of the shot but I can also use motion settings to reposition the framing (like I said, a reverse pan-and-scan) so that what we need to see is in the frame. In the case of TJAI I also used the key-framing capabilities to "vertically stabilize" the shot to a certain degree-there are still a couple of really jumpy parts I missed and I might do another pass at it to try to make it better for what'll be used on the DVD. This may be the only so that I'll be doing something like this on because I export to high def and I'd rather send out mostly raw files (which are standard def)-I'm just doing it special with TJAI because of the video projection. I might also do Three Days, or at least the opening part. Again, I think it could be cool to include a wide shot as an alternate angle-although the wide shot is again slightly unstable and there's no way to make the horizontal axis more stabilized-not without zooming things in even more, anyway.

So basically-I got a little off topic there but my question is-Cheese (or Goldy since you've got the same software) does Sony Vegas have similar capabilities for being able to "crop" standard aspect ratio videos to widescreen and reposition them vertically so they're framed in a manner that is aesthetically pleasing? I would need to know this for Goldy as well actually since if we're going to split the duties the aspect ratio should at least be consistent.

Edit: I STILL haven't heard anything back from Chaonatic. I'm really tempted to just rip his footage off YouTube and if he complains just be like "It's your fault for not responding when we tried to contact you!", or like "You didn't say no...didn't say yes either...didn't say anything for that matter."

I'm sure he gets a good deal of messages asking for his footage-but we want to use it to actually make something-plus he's gotta live up to his precedent with TOIOU-although technically people paid so he could go to the show so in this case he doesn't "owe us" or anything so...damn...but that really makes him seem like an asshole, though, doesn't it? And by that I'm not implying that he is one, just that the situation at hand makes him seem like one.

DJ - Vegas does allow you to crop however you like. Its a pretty bad ass program compared to all the others I have used. There are a bunch of cool filters too. I havent seen any stabalization filter but I will look cuz alot of my shots are pretty unsteady. I am hooked on the Sims as well! Its actually fun agian. They did a great job on it this time.

Ascension - Thats great news cuz I have the entire show in one shot except for the 2 spots I have mentioned in the past posts. It is chopped into 4gb files to burn but if you butt them up to eachother there are no gliches... atleast in Vegas. Thats cool if you want to wait to send them... going to the post office is a lot of work sometimes. LOL atleast in this city it is. I will be sending mine for sure on friday! Im shipping them in a cd wallet so they for sure wont scratch. My footage is coming on 12 dvd+r's and Diablo's footage only took 2 dvd+r's! You dont have to worry about getting the wallet back to me it was a buck so you can use it to neatly store everything if you want. There are 10 extra spots in it for the rest of the collection.

The stabilization is completely manual and not a filter-it was possible due to cropping the standard footage to widescreen-which meant that I could use the "motion settings" to add keyframes that would adjust the framing to center on the projection and stage. It isn't quite perfect, especially given the fact that once you create one keyframe you have to go back and make sure the transition to that keyframe didn't mess up the framing for previous frames (like between frame "A" and frame "B" the frame is moving upward, but if it turns out that sometime between the two frames I tilted the camera up then it's too high and I have to add new keyframes between A and B to compensate-if you can understand that at all. lol)

I'm currently working on the website hoping that the new theme won't cause any errors this time-then I can hopefully get to work on putting together the additional features for the site. Edit: Okay the new theme is giving me a blank page-I might have typed the name in wrong though...so much stuff has to be handled manually it's crazy.

as far as i no, check page 1. i kinda understand kinda not rlly @DJGamer, mainly coz i need sleep and im a zombie right now lol. as for the colour correction, who will be doing this, is this something we do as we go along? coz to be honest i dont know much bout it, but if needed ill study my ass of for it. I just got Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 slthough im not sure if there is much new about this version, I know there are a few cool audio tweaks added. apart from hat i think its just a version fixing up bugs and a few other things that will probs go un-noticed for me. ill look into it and see what else there is and blah blah blah blah , ok ill shut the fuk up now lol.

p.s. it seems as though sony vegas 9 has a new skin theme, which looks similar to Premiere.

06/12/09 1:24 PM

Premiere has some color-altering stuff and I might use it a little but I think I might only use it for shots that really look like they'd need it.

As for the website, I may be switching over to PHP Fusion. The features are a bit limited compared to what I'm attempting to use now but I actually know how to use PHP Fusion while what I'm trying to use now has proven not to be very user-friendly.
