I downloaded the ps3 torrent download for lits complilation. How should I go about getting it to play on my ps3? I'm lost and anxious to see this. And I've never downloaded a mpeg4 video off of torrent. Thanks for any help!

Transfer the download to a USB flash drive. Then use the PS3s USB ports to play it.ENJOY!!!

SYNC ISSUES CORRECTED!

First of all, many thanks to user "J-Hart" from echoing the sound forums for the correct sound offset settings and a way to fix the video errors which cause the offset. I spent many hours and almost gave up, but the help is great! THANK YOU!

It is possible to playback the 1080p version of the gift on the PS3, if you downloaded the mkv version that is. All that is required is are three free programs called tsMuxer GUI, MKV2VOB and DGAVCDec. Here's a simple guide for you! The guide is for Windows computers only.

Step 1.

Download MKV2VOB from here - MKV2VOB
Download DGAVCDec from here - DGAVCDec
Download tsMuxer GUI from here - tsMuxer GUI

Step 2.

First of all, install and open MKV2VOB. This program needs no settings changes at all. Add the MKV file in the source file box and choose your output destination. Then click on "Add File". This will automatically start the first process, and output a transport stream MPEG file to your chosen output directory. This section of the process fixes the video error (Colourspace error? Couldn't work it out myself).

Step 3.

Now, unzip the DGAVCDec file. Open the file called DGAVCIndex.exe. Next, simply drag the .mpg file you have just created with MKV2VOB onto the open program. Then just click "File", and "Save Project and Demux Video". Then just choose where you'd like to save it. This creates a seperate video and audio file in .264 format for the video and .ac3 for the audio.

Step 4.

Now open tsMuxer GUI. Add the two files created from AGAVCDec into the input area. Now select the audio file under the tracks area (AC3 Codec Audio). Just below this there is a General track options tab. Here, set the Delay (in ms) to 820. This will fix the audio sync issues. Now select your output as M2TS muxing.

Step 5.

If you are going to be streaming the file to the PS3, this is all you need to do, just click on Start muxing and that will create an output M2TS file to stream to the PS3. (You may need to rename the extension for the file to M2T, but I'm not sure on that one myself, haven't used streaming for HD content before). If however you're going to copy the file to the PS3, then there is one more thing to do to get around the PS3's FAT32 filesystem. This is recommended as it stops the chance of choppy video or streaming sync issues. Click on the Split & Cut tab at the top of the program. Then select "Split by sizer every" and enter 4GB. Then return to input and click "Start Muxing" at the bottom of the screen.

This will give you 3 split M2TS files to be copied direct the PS3 through USB Stick (Or Memory Stick, SD Card etc). Or obviously you can play them from the storage media itself without copying. I'd only say this is worth it from USB stick, unless you have a very fast SD Card. I've done this myself and just watched the whole thing, and it works perfectly well. And that's it. The whole process should take around 20 minutes. Thanks for the help of many people throughout the internet on this one, I hope this helps some people!

Do you have a tutorial so that I can do this on a Mac?

So using the PS3 and plugging in a USB drive to access the media files on it to watch but not necessarily copying the files over on to the PS3's hard drive is considered streaming?

Fuck after all this time i thought the whole "streaming" thing was regarding wireless network stuff.

I am having some weird results. When I copy the files to my PS3 only the first one will play. The other two say unsupported data type. They all play fine on the computer, but when I transfer them over only the first file will play. I don't understand what the difference would be. I have tried using a 3 character file extension and the 4 character extension and it is the same either way, I have tried muxing the files and I get the same results and I have tried taking each file seperately to the PS3 and that doesn't work either (Like it would). I also tried streaming them from my PC across the Network to the PS3 and I get the same results that way also. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen? I just don't understand what would make the las 2 files different from the first file, expecially when they all 3 play fine in Windows Media Player.

Apologies for taking so long to get back to this! I can't see what could be causing your error I'm afraid, I haven't been able to replicate the error. As for a Mac guide, I'm starting an OSX Server Tech course in the next couple of weeks so should have a MacBook Pro to work on it for you! I've found the software required, but after my first edit of this guide came up with so many errors, I'd like to test it myself at least twice before posting a guide. But I can't see what's going wrong for you with the second and third split files, they SHOULD all be the same format if you followed the guide correctly. Either way, the Mac guide will be the first thing I write up after getting my laptop! (FUCK WINDOWS!). In the spirit of community, I'd like to see some more feedback here, the guide worked perfectly for me, but has anybody else come across any problems? This has been linked on TOIOU.org now, so if there's a common error down to something in particular, software conflicts, codec errors, certain hardware configurations, I'd like to know so I can get hold of a similar rig to test there too. I, (And others), worked hard making this guide, due to some video/audio issues in the mkv file, so if anyone using the guide could let me know that it works/doesn't work for you, that'd be awesome!

+edit+
If there happens to be an active community for this sort of thing around here...
It could be a couple of weeks before I get my (mmm...shiny) Macbook Pro, so after some further digging, if anybody else would like to spend a little time testing it'd be great! The software I've found is as follows...

In place of MKV2VOB on Windows, I have found MKVtools for Mac. Download HERE

In place of DGAVCDec, I have found bbDEMUX for Mac. Download HERE

And as for tsMuxeR, there's a Mac version! Not for Snow Leopard unfortunately though, just 10.5. Download HERE

Sadly I can't find a program that does the same thing with the same ability to shift the audio by a set amount for snow leopard yet, but as I'll be running snow leopard server... I'll need to find myself a program anyway.

A BIG NOTE, THIS MAY NOT WORK AND I AM NOT POSTING THESE SOFTWARE LINKS AS PART OF THE GUIDE! I'M PURELY POSTING AS CONCEPT FOR ANYONE WILLING TO SPEND SOME TIME TO MAKE THIS WORK! DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE AND EXPECT IT TO JUST WORK FOR YOU, IT IS PURELY TO TEST!

So if you have the time, great! But as I said, no Mac myself for a couple of weeks, so if someone else wants to attempt the same thing with the above software on Mac that'd be awesome!

A further thing, I have awful upload bandwidth with a maximum of around 25kb/s. That is the reason I haven't torrented my complete files. If someone with a fast upload speed would be willing to take the time, and torrent my completed working files for me, PM me with a speedtest.net result image, and a promise to dedicate enough time seeding, and I can send you DVD's of the working files in the post. I'll help seed it, but with just my upload speed... it could take a couple of weeks to roll it out to just one other person! UK only though. That way we can forego this whole guide and get a working PS3 version uploaded to the masses! Sadly, as the finished 3 files amount to 9.45GB, my upload speed isn't feasible as a means to share my completed files. Thanks to everyone who's helped me out with this so far, and to everyone who continues to help share this work of art!

Cheers!
JK

I ran into the same issues as althage on parts 2 and 3 when the video's split - has anybody figured out a solution to this? If I figure something out I'll post it...

I don't have a USB device, and want to use my Microsoft Zune instead. Is this possible? .mp4 doesn't want to work with this software.

I am also having the same problem as jlkinsel and althage, any new developments? It would be much appreciated!

I know this problem, not with your material, but in general.

Your footage is mt2?
I don't know if my proposal works for this..

I use the tool -VobEdit-
on the site link below you can click the VobEdit button for download:

With this tool you can put VOB parts from DVD's together. Maybe it also works for other files... as you authored it in a way, I think.
But you had the files as a whole already? and then first you splitted it?

Anyhow, you have to re-encode the complete file to DVD-standard / mpg2 or mpg4.
In case you wanna have the complete file splitted again, you have to re-author (also DVD-standard) the footage again!
For this I don't know tools for free.... as I use for both no freeware.

I don't know if this info really helps, as I don't know if I understood everything correctly and (more important!) you will understand everything, with my kind of English winking smiley
