Record Labels Sue Guns N Roses For Copying Songs
[www.reuters.com]
Reuters posted:
Two independent record labels sued U.S. rock band Guns N' Roses for $1 million, claiming the group used portions of two songs by a German musician on their last album "Chinese Democracy."

Guns N' Roses and Universal Music Group's Interscope-Geffen A&M label were sued by British label Independiente and the U.S. arm of Domino Recording Company, who own the licensing rights to songs by German electronic musician Ulrich Schnauss.

Singer Axl Rose and Guns N' Roses band members and album producers copied portions of two of Schnauss' songs -- "Wherever You Are" and "A Strangely Isolated Place" -- for a song used on the band's last album called "Riad N' the Bedouins," according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed on Friday but made available on Monday, seeks $1 million in damages. A spokesperson for Interscope-Geffen A&M, owned by Vivendi's Universal Music Group, was not available for comment.

"Chinese Democracy," the band's first new album in 17 years that was released last November, resulted in disappointing sales.

Besides Rose, the only original member in the band, the other current and former band members named in the suit include guitarist Brian Carroll, better known as "Buckethead," bassist Tommy Stinson, and Robin Finck, who currently plays lead guitar with rock act Nine Inch Nails.

Ulrich Schnauss? Waoh, really? I'm a huge fan of that guy.
However not a fan of G'n'r.

Nine Inch Nails upload onstage HD footage from their last UK show – videoVideos from their London O2 Arena show now online

NME posted:
Nine Inch Nails have uploaded two onstage HD videos from their last UK show and you can see them by scrolling down here.

The videos, which both feature Gary Numan, were shot during the band’s show at London's O2 Arena in July and were posted on the band's official website.

"We're beginning work on a variety of things NIN and not-NIN related that we'll inform you of when the time is right," singer Trent Reznor explained on NIN.com. "Check back from time to time and who knows what you'll find," he added.

Reznor, who is reported to be working on a collaboration with Gary Numan, finished the entry by posting the videos.

The band, who played their final ever show together last month in Los Angeles, have called it a day after more than 20 years together.

i just found a bunch of trailers for this haunted house in Austin (House Of Torment). i don't know who's in charge of putting these together, but who ever it is much be a huge NIN fan.

this trailer has 2 NIN songs in it, Starfuckers remix and Just Like You Imagined
[www.youtube.com]

not the scariest NIN song, but this one has The Fragile (?) playing in it.

this one has logo in the beginning that was obviously lifted from the Bureau Of Morality for the Year Zero ARG
[www.youtube.com]

i would have picked some diff NIN songs, like Help Me I Am In Hell or 32 Ghost IV, but it's still interesting.

LOL The second one 'Global Fear Enterprises' left stuff in the bathroom at the Austin show that was on 5/12/09. We were playing some reality game for a while hoping it was NIN related but nothing ever really came of it. Kinda cool. Whoever 'Global Fear Enterprises' is, they are definitely NIN fans.

Halloween is definitely my favorite "holiday" and combining that with NIN makes it so much more delightful.

I doubt this is true, that is why I didn't open a thread for it:

It says that Trent, Marilyn Manson or U2, among others, have signed a petition to free Charles Manson. Maybe MM is retarded enough to sign something like that, but Trent said in the 90s that he didn't support C.Manson after talking with Tate's sister about renting the Cielo Drive house to record TDS. And I doubt that Bono would sign something like that because it would ruin his "Messiah" image as the savior of the third world.

This is an older book, 2005ish, but in Charlaine Harris' Definitely Dead the main character, Sookie, is going through her deceased cousin's CDs and one of the bands she mentions is NIN! w00t

The november 2009 issue of glamour magazine (page 163-4) has an article on Veronica and Eric De La Cruz where they mention nin (really, when are you ever going to see glamour magazine and nin mentioned in the same sentence ever again? or nin in glamour ever again...)
and the october 2009 issue of nylon magazine with megan fox on the cover mentions nin on page 118: M83 picks Hurt as a favorite song and decribes it as "tense and brooding".
and page 119 has an interview with A Place To Bury Strangers where they are asked what it was like to tour with nin:
"Trent Reznor is a cool dude. The whole thing was an awesome experience. We'd be ready to go on, they'd turn off the lights, and people would just go nuts. We got new fans! There was one show where this dude was waving his middle finger at me, but by the end of the song, that middle finger had turned into a pumping fist."
Bleh, looong, sorry!

Bid on Justin's Plectrum for Charity
Greetings,

Just wanted to let you know of a very worthy charity I'm involved in: the Ben Sherman VIP Auction of Very Important Plectrums. It is a fundraiser for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy. Go to this website to learn more, as well as to see the incredible range of artists involved with the cause. The auction for my plectrum and hand-written note, which are very nicely presented and framed, starts on October 18th. Symbolically, it's far, FAR more than a guitar pick, so let's raise some money!

Best,
Justin

This is a teaser for a rather amazing project, Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral: Live concert DVD.

The upcoming DVD was filmed, recorded and edited by fans. Cheap digital video cameras and computer-based editing have made this possible.

It begs the question, though: Who's going to know what diehard fans want to see better than die hard fans?

The Downward Spiral: Live isn't available yet, but you can check out two previous releases at the ThisOneIsOnUs.org site.
